As far as I can tell, the big ominous threat is supposed to be the virus that is killing the supers, but it’s been barely touched upon since episode one.
I’m really tired of posters trying to suggest that I shouldn’t say what I like about a TV show I watched. If you don’t like the bitching threads, you can just…stop…reading them.
If I have watched a show, I have invested in it the one commodity I can never get back: my time. I have done so on the assurance that I will experience something I will consider worth that investment.
In centuries past, monarchs and potentates paid directly for art and culture with things like gold which there was a potential to recoup. And even they had no qualms about putting the creator in the stockade or stringing them up by their thumbs if the investment appeared to have been wasted.
We, in our modern society, are denied that satisfaction, and now you demand that we ignore our right to at least complain that our time has been wasted?
Shame! Shame!
You, Mr. Bad Author or Inept TV Producer have hoodwinked my time from me, and I can not get it back. I will bitch on the interwebs, I will bitch in the staff lounges, I will bitch on mass transit, and woe betide the person who declares I have not the right!
People are not suggesting that you shouldn’t say what you liked, nor even what you did not like.
People are suggesting that it is inappropriate for a discussion thread in CS to do nothing but whine and bitch. We’re here to discuss the show, so… you know… discuss something. About what happened on the show.
If we wanted to read other people sharing their pointless feelings, or ranting to no purpose, we can go to MPSIMS or the Pit.
There is a difference between saying “Man, the Wonder Twins suck!” and “the Maya storyline is moving too slowly compared to the other storylines and I don’t like it as much.”
There’s also the mysterious individual who’s threatening the older generation (and already killed Papa Sulu). Nothing as earth-shattering as New York blowing up or as mind-blowing as Claire gutted on an autopsy table coming back to life. We don’t even have a trail of gruesome murders to follow. To reiterate, these events occurred by the third episode last season. In comparison, nothing much has really happened this season, three episodes in. Sylar’s reappearance might have almost been a good moment, except that NBC chose to show spoilers in their own commercials.
ETA: Best moment in episode 3 - Uhura’s appearance. I was expecting it, since her name was in the opening credits, but I wasn’t expecting it at that particular moment.
Yeah, that hacked me off a little bit. I don’t avoid the previews, since I like having a little taste of what to look forward to, but I wish they had kept that one a complete surprise. I figured Sylar was still alive, but to have it confirmed before they had even shown one episode (or am I misremembering that that was in the teasers prior to the season premiere? It was definitely in the preview after the first episode) was disappointing.
I suppose a more accurate phrase to get my meaning across would have been “…say as I please…”
Then take it up with admin.
From the Forum rules:
If I want to bitch about a show, it still belongs in this forum.
If I want to call Tim Kring an incompetent producer, I would say it’s still mod-proof.
If I want to use my opinion about his show to impugn his manhood or as evidence in a speculation on the attractiveness of his children, I may be dancing close to the line.
If I insult another poster fro disagreeing with me, I have crossed it.
I agree with this; it’s as much within the purpose of this forum to criticize (within limits) as to praise. I understand why it might be frustrating to see a lot of people bitching about an episode, but I think it probably indicates that the ep is not a strong one. As I said earlier, most of the first season was paced better, so I’m annoyed by minor (and major) things a lot more. Saying “If you hate it so much, stop watching it” kind of misses the point: I think at least some others will agree with me, it’s precisely because I love the show that the flaws in this episode and this season so far bugged me so much.
Perhaps I should have clarified that the problem is content-free bitching. I can’t think of a thread regular who hasn’t complained about something on the show. But if you’re complaining, tell us what the hell you’re complaining about, so we can understand enough to agree or disagree!
I enjoyed this episode. It was great seeing Sylar back, and I liked that they included the clockwork noises when he went back to his old ways. I did think it was kind of dumb that Candace had to look different to hide from something, when they were on that island away from the entire world. I mean, I know she didn’t really look like that, and she was really big and fat, but still they had her mention that she was in disguise. That is dumb. Still, that’s a small nitpick. The entire sequence with her and Sylar was awesome.
I have no problem at all with the pacing of the show in general this year. Well, I want them to answer all of my questions RIGHT NOW. But, I feel that way about any episodic television shows with dangling plot lines. And, they satisfied me last year after saying WHAT IS GOING ON for most of the season.
So, I trust them to answer all of the crazy questions this year in due course as well. What is to become of Sylar? Who is the scary man who the little girl sees in her dreams? Who is killing the 9? Or is it 8? Is Claire’s Dad one of the causalities, or is that unrelated? Will West become less annoying now that he is not a stalker? Will Mohinder crack? Will Ando go crazy and kill his boss with the sword? Will game playing really overtake his porn addiction? Will Hiro get the girl and somehow break nerdy timeline rules all over the world by bringing the girl to the future/present?
Fun questions! And, I don’t mind them taking a while to get to the answers.
But, I have to agree that the illegal immigration storyline needs a pepstart. I am guessing the gringo they picked up will lead them to the US, so maybe that is the jump that story needs. Was his bumpersticker for Claire’s school?
Bwah! I did notice that it was the same model car, so I just went and rewatched it; the sticker says “Go Conquistadores!” so I bet it’s her stolen car.
It’s the bumper sticker, that they purposely zoomed in on, that makes me think it–I looked it up and that is indeed the name of the team at Claire’s high school, and that guy looked older than HS age. Had it just been another Rogue I wouldn’t have thought anything of it, since they are shameless with the product placement.
I think it’d be great if the creators just killed off the hispanic twins. Hopefully they get caught crossing the border. Or something.
I think West could become an interesting character, tbh I think half the problem is that I really hate the actor’s delivery, or maybe the director is making him act that way, I dunno. The concept for the story is cool, just the guy is SOOO annoying. Especially if they play off the antagonism between HRG and West correctly, it could actually turn out pretty interesting.
IMO it’s pretty clear Candace is not dead, and Sylar is really not the Others on Lost island. Could be a good crossover story though
They really need to condense all the storylines back down in to one like they did last season though. This season hasn’t begun bringing people together yet, which is what finally made last season really good, that even through different means, all the characters were tied together.
I just don’t see that happening unless several main characters start getting diseased and/or more people get involved against the company and/or hoodie-stalker really starts to be a major plotline that brings disparate elements of the show together.
See the problem isn’t the bitching (or whining) it’s the hijacking. See the title of the thread? It’s not “Does Heroes suck?” It’s a thread that is specifically about a particular episode. Discuss how it’s good, discuss how it’s bad. Don’t hijack. Not because a mod might stomp on you. Because it ruins it for people who would like to discuss the episode itself and enjoy the thread a bit.
So are we not supposed to discuss the plot points of the episode? If someone wants to talk about the actual episode and not just discuss how the show sucks every week we need to go to another website?
Don’t know for certain, but I can only assume that it’s Great-Aunt Uhuru (who I only know is a great-aunt because of the description on the website). Odd to name the episode after a one minute portion, but it’s the only one that makes sense.
Nice to see Nichelle back on TV when it’s not a Star Trek reunion, incidentally. She’s also a 70 year old (or thereabouts) who looks good without looking like a failed Dupont product.
And I do think Tobolowsky’s character will be Skystalker StraightZach’s “man in horn rimmed glasses”. And that Molly’s monster will be played by Britney Spears.
Oh good, does this mean we can go back to discussing the episode? I’ll just stipulate that Heroes sucks, always will suck and always did. I still like it.
One point I had planned to bring up before wading through a couple of pages of hijacks. They are laying the foundation for the next big reveal. Who is the big baddie. No way is West killing off the elder Heroes. He is just a kid (OK a kid pushing thirty but this is Hollywood) and doesn’t know what is really going on. It isn’t Claude. It was pretty clear that he was just an employee, not someone up the foodchain. The one who killed Sulu is one of his comtemporaries. Someone who built up the conspiracy with the Patrelli’s, Sulu, Linderman and Shaft (along with a few we haven’t seen). I still stand by my theory. It will be Kensei. It will either be revealed that Hiro screws up and brings him ahead or (I think more likely) it will be revealed that his power also brings with it near immortality or very long life. That is the reason why Hiro mucking around in the past will be important. That is why the Petrelli law firm and Sulu Inc used the symbol. Kensei started it all.
I have no idea why Peter is in Ireland or what is up with the twins.
One thing that struck me as odd was when Peter didn’t open the box (cue Brad Pitt). New girlfriend said something like “Are you happy with who you are?” He is afraid of finding out he wasn’t a good person. So instead he will become part of a vicious gang of armed robbers and thugs.
Oh and someone mentioned about the tattoo. I can’t wade back that far. It clearly showed the new clan tattoo fading until all that was left was the symbol and then that faded out to nothing.
