Heroes 10/1/07 - "Lizards" (SPOILERS)

Hmmmm…British guy…has healing powers…has possession of a special sword…

Takezo…

is…

LINDERMAN!

Imagine; Takezo, being extremely long-lived and one of the first “specials” that we know of, eventually learns to control his powers to such an extent that he not only heals himself and retard aging but can heal others…and I’m going to go out on a limb and predict that we see Linderman again before season’s end…!

What’s the opposite of a nitpick? Cause I have one.

One of my favorite little details of the show is how they’re not afraid of subtitles. I hate when TV shows and movies have foreign people speaking to each other not in their native languages, but in heavily accented English. Heroes, as sensational as it is, is much more realistic to me because of this detail. Heck, I think we heard more Japanese/Spanish/French last night than English.

[QUOTE=LightrayBooooring. This is twice now where their storyline has been: (1) Mayjgha cries and prays and moans, (2) Alejhandro tells her not to worry, (3) foreshadowing of why they should worry, (4) plot contrivance separates Mayjjjjjjjjha and Alejjjjjjhhhandro so that (5) death ensues, until (6) they’re reuinted to overpronounce each other’s names once more.[/QUOTE]

I find it funny that the hispanic characters, including the brother and sister all have different spanish accents. Alejandro has a Puerto Rican accent, Maya has a South/Central American accent, Lidia (the woman who helped them cross sounds Cuban or Venezuelan, and the curandera sounded Mexican. A real melting pot.

I was kind of happy that even though it’s been many years since I studied French I got the gist of what Mohinder was saying without having to read the subtitles. Of course it was pretty simple French at that point.

I took some Spanish, too, but they always speak too fast so by the time I recognize a word or phrase they have spoken several more sentences.

I’ll take some action on that bet. It ain’t happening.

Because…?

In any case, whether he comes back or not, doesn’t it make sense that Takezo is, if not Linderman himself, directly related?

Because you’ve got the wrong powers.

Linderman healed other people, not himself. Otherwise he could have come back from his case of the deads once DL took his hand out of Linderman’s head (just like Claire and Peter came back from the dead once the stuff in their head was taken out). Takezo, we just saw, can come back from the dead like Claire and Peter can.

edit: Also, as has been pointed out several times, powers don’t seem to inherit by theme. Claire’s powers are nothing like Nathan’s flying or her mother’s firestarting. Peter’s powers are unalike Nathan’s (except inasmuch as Peter copied Nathan’s flying). Micah’s power is completely unalike Niki’s or DL’s.

Therefore, if you’re basing this theory of relatedness on similarity of powers, no. It doesn’t make sense that Takezo and Linderman are directly related.

And that sword has been in the hands of more guys in this show than Niki, so just because Linderman ended up with it also proves nothing.

Not really. Linderman appeared to have the ability to heal other people/things. We didn’t see any evidence that he could heal/regenerate himself like Claire and Takezo.

And aside from that, there’s also nothing in the story that suggests particular powers are heriditary. Claire can’t fly or start fires like her parents, Micah can’t walk through walls or go beserk like his, and Molly seems to only have her one ability (we don’t know what her parents could do).

Edit: Lightray stopped time and got his post in before mine.

Well. it is time travel. Assuming he had enough control over it to get back to that exact moment in the first place, he could bum around ancient Japan as long as he wants in the meantime.

Who says he didn’t recover after a while? I mean, that’s a major injury to recover from, maybe it took longer. And the whole thing about healing others and not himself; that’s why I suggested that he had learned to control his powers to the point of being able to heal others as well.

I’m more inclined to think that Linderman IS Takezo, actually.

Never said it proved anything, just seemed funny that he would have it.

Put me down in favor of the subtitles. I think the American public has matured to the point where they are acceptable in popular culture. The writers at “24” need to get a clue though. Last season, they had the Russians speaking English to each other with Russian accents. I found that very distracting.

bolding mine

Actually, Chris Eccleston is back in the US right now, more than likely going to reappear on the show. I think he was one of the original 12-is-now-8. I’m hoping, however, that he’s not psycho-killer. Evil-Hoodie looked a little too short and thin to be him.

Anyway, I enjoyed the episode a great deal. I really like where they’re going with Claire - is she going to offer up her regenerative livers and spleens and hearts to those on organ donor lists? I love it! Seriously, who knew one of our heroes could actually do some good other than stopping bombs and saving cheerleaders?

I think new baddie’s power has something to do with him being able to move through the dark - every time he shows up the lights go out.

Hiro’s storyline is infinitely more interesting when the Brit is passed out drunk. I enjoyed him messing with the bandits by taking their swords and arrows.

Oh, and I finally just about five minutes ago realized where I know really bad Irish accent guy from: Fight Club! “His name is Robert Paulson.”

I don’t want to spoil it (not a real spoiler, keep reading), but didn’t the woman basically give away the whole season when she said to Maya something like, “Your darkness is too much even for the devil!” I mean come on. We haven’t even met Molly’s devil - unless it’s the guy who is attacking the elders and even if that’s the devil, he’s not very devilish yet - and we’re already arming our heroes against him?

I’m on board for the Samurai storyline. But I hope it clears up quickly (like next episode)
Not really sure that Sark’s power is to heal. It may be more like a restart power. When he dies, he comes back to life.

Well I’ll be dipped. I think FlightlessBird just got the season-ender spot-on for Maya v. Baddie.

… which, damnit, means I’ll probably have to endure the entire season of her whining and sobbing before she (wo)man’s up and starts to use her power instead of being used by it. sigh

I swear, if Niki comes back this season just as whiny as the last, I’ll be taking my new time-stopping powers to go kick some Hero writers’ asses. I can’t take two storylines like that!

Hmmm…that actually makes more sense, if ony because of the following reason:

Who here has never, even once, accidentally cut themselves? Or gotten a scrap or a burn? Surely by the time this guy was in his 30’s, he would have noticed that he healed wounds, if he could heal wounds. However, if his power is more like a “less-evolved” (using Heroes version of evolution, natch) version of Claire’s, and he can only heal a wound that killed him, that he would never have noticed until now…errr, then…you know what I mean.

And I noticed a small mistake in last night’s ep (either a writer’s mistake, or a character’s mistake.) Noah said that all of Isaac paintings have come true…which is wrong. The NYC go boom painting never came to be. yes, a nuclear explosion occurred above the city, but he clearly painted it in the middle of downtown…or uptown…or sidetown…whatever. Ground-level, at any rate. And every other painting that we’ve seen that did come true did so in a nearly perfect manner as the painting.

I had assumed that the character that attacked Sulu and Mama Petrelli was Molly’s bad guy. Molly said that when she saw him, he could see her as well. And when Mama Petrelli was being attacked, it looked to me like someone who projected himself into the room to attack her. Maybe he was able to disappear from both attacks so quickly because he wasn’t there in person. I hope that makes sense.

That’s just my guess.

Not much to add to what others have posted except that… Is the actress who plays Claire even 5’ tall? Damn, is she short!

I like the subtitles, too. I speak a little Japanese, and much of the conversation is very basic, so I can pick up some of it. Having the subtitles as a crutch seems to make it just a little bit easier.

He had a line, something like “maybe next life.” I think he knows he comes back from the dead. I rather expected a Doctor-like regeneration.

Okay, I can’t be the only one who can’t think of Alejandro as anything but “Miguel.” And that damn song kept starting in my head every time they were on screen…

It’s Maya,
And Miguel…

Brother and sister and best friends as well!"

Come to think of it, Miguel is always having to figure out a way to fix problems that Maya has inadvertently caused…

Apparently, she is 5’1". I have nothing else to add except that this episode was a much needed upgrade from the season opener.
