Claire’s dad being evil? I thought it was too obvious. Shoulda known better.
Yep, which is why I suspect him of being a “villain.” He’s a rapist bastard regardless but that she would suffer two “fatalities” at his hands in short order seems too coincidental. But I think he’s unaware of his abilities, if any, as he seemed genuinely shocked both times.
Oh, I think Mohinder’s dad had more to do with it than discovering him. He’s got “experiment gone bad” written all over him. Too many powers and he needs to eat brains to keep them going.
Yeah, what is up with Claire? The rest of us, we fall down and get an owey. She falls down and manages to get a rebar through the head or something. Girl isn’t just invincible. Her secondary power is being really accident prone.
Word. I hope there’s an explanation for her storyline, because it’s really becoming irritating.
BTW, was the medical examiner checking to see if the branch through her neck triggered a fatal heart attack?
I find it interesting that Claire is always being injured in a cheerleader outfit. I suspect they will find a way to work it into the storyline that she always appears in that outfit when she is fighting evil. Not that I’m complaining… it’s a cool outfit and makes a neat superhero costume.
Perhaps Claire’s body is more bendy and malleable than the rest of us? That would explain her tendency towards accidents. Her fingers bent the wrong way after the garbage disposal incident. Her neck bent wrong after the tackle, her shoulder bent after the fall. Either that’s the easiest way to display her power on a limited FX budget, or her body is easier to pierce with a stray tree root than the rest of us.
I also like that moving body parts helps her heal. The cracked rib, the shoulder, the tree root indicate her healing doesn’t finish until foreign objects are removed and her bones are reset.
Um . . . what exactly is it with the “eating brains” meme? We haven’t seen any indication anyone is eating brains; we simply saw a corpse with its brain removed. Isn’t it far more likely the “bad guys” would have removed it for scientific study, especially given the pseudo-scientific explanations they seem to be offering for the heroes’ abilities? I haven’t missed some zombie scene somewhere, have I?
Yes: I really expected Mohinder to walk into a secret alcove of brains in jars while he was exploring Sylar’s evil lair. (which seemed to lack the large red self-destruct button that all evil lairs need).
My WAG: He’s eating the brains of the heros to gain their powers - that’s why he has multiple powers while everyone else seems to just have one power.
Mrs. Nardo also observed that the flying brothers only fly when they’re together. Which could be a cool plot point because they seem to get along less and less.
But that’s just speculation.
Sci Fi showed last week’s episode just before this week’s aired and I noticed Syler was mentioned as “patient zero”, but not what he was “patient zero” for.
My theory is that whatever triggers superhumans is contagious somehow and Syler’s the source of all of it. He’s almost definitely psychic in someway since he can apparently locate other superhumans (see the map in episode 2 and the fact that he found the little girl in custody) and an immensely powerful telekinetic (the forced movement, the odd deaths, stopping the bullets). My theory is that what happens in New York in a few weeks isn’t a nuclear blast but is instead Syler cutting loose in a confrontation.
I’m with you. The rest of you just assume Sylar eats the brains. Maybe Sylar and Claire’s dad work together - Sylar kills and Claire’s dad collects the brains for study. and Claire may be in that very lab
It was revealed in an article I read that the Nurse Brother doesn’t have the power of flight, he has the power to temporarily absord the powers of other heroes.
I really like the premise, but the execution has been pretty weak so far. I know this is going to sound odd, but the dialogue sounds too comic-bookish.
Jeph Loeb wrote last night’s episode, and I am surprised that it was so cheesy. He is actually one of the better writers of superhero comics.
But the show has so much “overtalking”, bad narration and cliche driven scenes (bringing the police into an empty apartment…SHOW THEM THE DAMN PICTURES YOU TOOK!) it makes it difficult to enjoy.
Clearly there is a great premise here. And the characters are compelling. But they need to tighten it up a bit or it is going to fall into “genre” show territory.
More Star Trek than Battlestar Galactica.
And if someone could kill off the Murse character, the show would be so much better.
No, apocalypse works, too…
I found it unlikely a medical examiner wouldn’t remove the stick first. Also unlikely that the kid would sleep in full sunlight for several hours in the middle of a desert.
I do like the theory that Niki’s not the one with the power; her ex is, and he’s hiding in her reflection.
I really, really liked that when the Flying Nurse decided to try to fly, he threw himself into a sandpit, rather than an alley from 14 floors up. I did, however, expect the kid in the superman outfit to give him some pointers. "Mister, you don’t throw yourself from off of something; you point up into the air with one hand and jump. "
www.lasvegasniki.com – caught that off of Hiro’s friend’s ipod screen. It takes you to the official unofficial Heroes fan site.
We may be nearing the point of needing a question list for this show.
This week has really pulled me in, I’ve been so-so for the last two weeks but this week was good!

You beat me to it. If the theory (sorry, I don’t remember who first posted it) that the little girl’s parents are also Claire’s birth parents, this makes even more sense to me.
Depending on how much time elapsed between the removal of the tree branch and her recovery, it’s possible she saw the person who removed the branch – who just might be her dad, thus resulting in her “Holy shit!”
Hubby thinks that she was just reacting to where she was and her chest being laid open. I pointed out that she didn’t exclaim when she looked at her chest, but rather when she looked to the side. Any thoughts?
Nobody’s eating brains. I’ll bet money on that.
I like the show, but really wish they hadn’t gone with the stupid “evolution” bullshit pseudoscience. And saying “well, it’s a comic book story” isn’t much of an excuse: the whole point seems to be to show realistic consequences of people developing comic book-style powers, in a world that looks pretty much like ours. It has the same pop culture – Hiro is a fan of “Star Trek” and the X-Men comics. If science in the real world worked like science in comic books, would there even be comic books?
I’m hoping the mutants-not-called-mutants angle will turn out to be a red herring.
I’m glad to see Hiro’s friend Ando taking a more active role (though I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t like being called a “sidekick”). My guess is that he’s the only real friend Hiro has in Tokyo; even though he ribs Hiro for being an oddball, it’s good-natured. It seems odd, though, that several times he’s surprised when Hiro shows him a panel in the comic book, illustrating the situation and dialogue that they experienced a few seconds before. If somebody showed me a comic book that included me as a character, that seemed to show the near future, I’d definitely read the whole thing. The paradoxes of causation that implies give me a headache.
Nice product placement for the Nissan Versa. I’d like to test-drive one of those.

Don’t forget to bring your video iPod along.

Can’t agree; her reaction was clearly related directly to her rather unique physical situation. (Actually, that shot of her opened chest was one of those rare tv moments that made me say something that sounded very much like “Holy Flurk!”)
If she’d looked over and seen her dad, her reaction would have been more like “Dad!” Just a guess.
Incidentally, I’ve been seeing that technique of cutting just as somebody is saying “Holy --” in several places. First in the series of VW Jetta car-crash ads, then blatantly ripped off in an ad for some high-speed internet service.

It was on Claire’s books as she removed 'em from her locker.
I haven’t followed the last threads because my Mondays are usually so busy that I tivo this show. Isn’t there a glyph in that gibberish algorithim that they found?
I really like this show, but I have to agree with a previous poster: why go to grandma’s house? There are other odd things like that throughout the show, too (like going to confront the guy who probably killed your dad), but this one really lept out at me.
I’m fine with the dialogue, but Mohinder’s is the worst of the bunch. It makes his acting look bad, too.
I think the cheerleader’s reaction was to both her chest being open and the bowl nearby which may have contained some organs. I don’t think this was anything but a coroner’s office or a mortician’s. If it was the secret lab where they take the “mutants” to study I think it would have looked cooler. Although, you would think that daddy would have made sure to keep her from getting opened up, but maybe they hadn’t been able to contact him yet or maybe he wants to see if she could recover from that.
I agree that showing two “fatal” accidents for Claire was a bit too much but I think after her quick recovery from the broken neck they wanted to show that she was essentially vulnerable and could be “killed”. Makes you wonder what would have happened if she had been embalmed and buried before she woke up.
I also don’t think Syler is eating brains, I don’t even think he’s stealing them. I think the organization that Claire’s dad is in is probably following Syler and taking the brains to study after he kills the other mutants. Maybe Syler does absorb their powers, but like Rogue, he also sucks out their entire life force killing them in the process. Unlike Rogue, perhaps the powers don’t fade.
Oops, forgot to add another thought or two.
I noticed that the picture of Mohinder’s dad on the back cover of the book was a very familiar actor. Since I doubt they’d hire someone like him just for a picture could we end up seeing him later in flashbacks or could he not be dead but perhaps in hiding or being held by the “secret organization”? I don’t remember the details but wasn’t Papa Suresh’s death supposed to have been “messy”. Perhaps it was too messy to really identify him? For that matter, I don’t recall Mohinder going to identify a body, maybe there wasn’t one and he was just told he was dead by the secret org guys? Perhaps Papa isn’t being cooperative and they want to see if Mohinder can figure things out for them?
Does anyone else think the cute girl helping Mohinder could be a plant? She seems to be taking everything in stride a bit too easily.
