Heroes 10/9 - "One Giant Leap"

Mohinder’s dad’s name wasn’t Chandra, which was the author of the book, said author played by the same guy who played Elektra’s father in the movie of the same name. So, probably not his dad. However, remember when Evil Dad got into Mohinder’s cab? “Suresh, huh? That’s a pretty common name…”

Agreed. Simone and Isaac’s breakup scene was by-the-numbers as well. “It’s either me or the dope” – how many times have we heard that? It’s shorthand for what should have been a whole different conversation. Isaac seemed relieved that she left though, which redeemed the scene a bit.

Going to Grandma’s house was a cover for taking the body/ies to be buried while the son slept. And story wise it allowed us to learn where her hubby had gone, in theory…

Well, yeah, it does sound odd, considering that this show, basically, is a comic book come to life.

I’m really enjoying it!

Okay, I’m probably really being dense, but WHO the heck took the branch out of Claire’s head? And where did they go after that? And how is she going to get football dude into her car in order to crash him into a wall? I know if I saw someone I had previously “accidently killed” I’d be really hesitant. “Go for a ride?” “Sure, why not?” :dubious:

Hiro is so effin entertaining though…right down to the predictible pushing of the glasses back up his nose.

I can’t help being suspicious of Eden MacKenzie (played by Nora Zehetner), Mohinder’s incredibly cute neighbor. We only have her word that she was friends with his father, and her character doesn’t really seem necessary to the story unless she’s got her own agenda. (Well, she provides a sounding board and possible love interest, but in a show that already has so many characters to follow, I bet she’s more than that.) She showed up conveniently and helped Mohinder deal with what might have been a deliberately crude bugging attempt by a fake exterminator. Maybe she’s with the organization that’s studying the Heroes.

As is well known, women are a snare and a delusion.

Yeah, the quarterback seemed fairly bright when they were chatting by the bonfire. Nice, too – making his interest plain, but not in a sleazy way. Then he turns into a rapist. There are few quicker ways to make a male character unsympathetic, even despised, than a little attempted date rape.

Successful date rape for one…

No, you’re not being dense. We don’t know who took the branch out. Here’s the thing. A cheerleader is found dead with a branch in her neck. Without finding and notifying the parents, you take her to the coroner’s and perform an autopsy? Is that legal? It’s only been a few hours I assume. If they had notified dad I highly doubt he’d allow an autopsy to be performed.

It’s almost as if whoever was performing the autopsy knew she’d stay dead until they removed the branch from her brain, so they left it there until they were finished. Then yank it out, leave the room and let Claire pull herself together, as it were.

OK, can we make a couple ground rules resgarding these threads like we do in other TV show threads? Either we agree that things shown in previews for next week are fair game to talk about, or we agree that some of us [sub]coughmecough[/sub] consider them spoiler material and prefer not to see them or know what happens in them.

And Claire was autopsied 1) way too soon, and 2) for no reason at all. I’m no medical examiner, but when I see a teenager with a large branch five inches in her skull, I’m pretty sure I know the cause of death, no real need to cut open her chest, especially in just a few hours after the accident (though, granted, they have been playing kind of fast and loose with the timeline. The time that it is in LA isn’t always the same time that it would be in NY, etc…)

I’m also not convinced the brains are being eaten. They might be, but they also might just be collected.

Last episode, I had a small theory that Nurse Brother had everyone’s powers, but to a small degree. Remember how he drew that little doodle of him floating towards his brother on the rooftop? This week, with him hurting himself trying to fly and from getting roughed up by his brother’s bodyguards, I’m less certain of that theory. Plus, he has shown no eveil-doppleganger power, no time or space manipulation, or mind-reading. So then why does he seem to have a slight abilty to see the future, like heroin-painter?

So it looks like it might be Hiro who at least tried to get everyone in the “super-group” together. He has some knowledge of the future, beleives he has this destiny to be a hero and stop the explosion, and knows the name and location of Isaac, who then connects us to Murse, who connects us to super-senator (and I know he’s running for congress, not sentate, but super-senator sounds better.)

And is any one else tired of the cliche where our heroes find the villians lair, with all the damning evidence, and come back, only to find in a few short hours the villian managed to somehow clear out everything in the place? My god, give me the number of Sylar’s moving company. And what was in the glass case in his apartment? Being in a glass case, one would think it’s a little more important than something not in a glass case.

I don’t remember the father’s name, yes it did sound compliated and it seems the girl shouldn’t have had a problem pronouncing Chandra. However, perhaps Chandra is a shortened version of the name for the book because something like Chandrasehashakarinderapunahaspemapetalon would have been too long for the book cover?

Also - I am not spoiling this because it took place in the second episode so I don’t consider it a spoiler.
The actor, Erick Avari, is listed as having been in the second episode. I don’t recall seeing the book cover in the second episode but we did hear Papa Suresh on the answering machine and he sounded like what I remember that actor sounds like. Also, it would just be way too confusing to have another person named Suresh write a book on the same subject the other Suresh was studying, even if Suresh is a common Indian name.
This one I will spoiler even though it occured in the second episode as well, but since we may or may not see this actor as the character later I will spoiler it.

The voice of Syler was very busy voice actor, Maurice LaMarche, also known as the voice of The Brain in Pinky and The Brain.
Chances are he won’t actually play Sylar in person but I figured I’d spoil his identity just in case.

The picture on the back of the book was Erick Avari, and he is listed on IMDb as a cast member of “Heroes,” so I bet we will see him later.

Sorry to have duplicated info about Erick Avari. My post went through very slowly.

I know, you’re a few minutes too late. :stuck_out_tongue:

Actually, I looked it up earlier but went to take a shower and didn’t post it until a few minutes ago.
Re: Discussing previews.
I always watch previews and consider them part of the episode, sometimes I forget what was preview and what wasn’t so I don’t know if I can guarantee not talking about them without spoilers. But I’ll try to abide by the majority decision.

Ok, I cast my vote that previews that the show has chosen to entice the audience with for the following week are not spoilers and can be freely discussed and speculated upon.

Yeah, I saw the glyph in the computer gibberish in last week’s show. Don’t know if it’s mentioned in that thread.

I’ll echo that I think the previews are fair game and can’t promise that I won’t not-spoiler them.

He has not been around Clare, Niki, Hiro or [del]Sean[/del] [del]Weiss[/del] Matt yet. If he is in fact a power-mimic (or power borrower or stealer), it may be that he needs to be in a certain proximity to the one with the power to tap into it. c.f. Rogue and Mimic from X-men.

From the IMDB trivia section:

He’s a pretty popular actor when you need some ambiguously ethnic.

So what’s the consensus, Mohinder’s dad? Some other author?

Regarding thread rules; is IMDB cast-list type info spoilertag-worthy?

Hm. I still feel like the “Holy --!” should’ve come WHILE she was looking at her chest, not after she looked away. Yes, it’s a technical detail; yes, I can be anal retentive.

Although if the person she looked at offscreen was holding up an organ, then I agree fully with your agreement. (Assuming there was a person she saw; we don’t know that yet.)

Further comments on that bit:

I agree that having her autopsied (assuming that’s what it is) so soon and in these circumstances doesn’t make sense. So, therefore, whoever cut her open knows or at least has an idea of what she is. The only person we know for sure who fits that description at the moment is EvilDad.

I may have to start keeping a scorecard…

Scorecard? Damn, I think this calls for a spreadsheet. :stuck_out_tongue:

Pardon me if I crossed any lines by mentioning the preview. I pretty much assumed we’re all posting about what we saw last night, no?
