Damn, that stupid internet meme of Angela having mind-controlly powers just won’t die, will it?
Let me point out, for the umpteenth time, that the only person she ever actually convinced to do something was Nathan’s wife. Every time she turned her “powers” of persuasion on Nathan, Peter, or Claire – they’d immediately go out and do exactly what she didn’t want them to do.
There was nothing overt about her convincing Arthur to let her go. Either he does actually still love her (probable, given the ambiguity of character they’re trying for), or he had his own reasons to let her go. But Angela has stated that her power is precognative dreams, Arthur has confirmed it, and no one has shown up with multiple powers (except those whose powers are to take/copy/whatever other powers).
Shopping at the Hulk store, clearly. This show ain’t on Showtime, the britches stay on! Speaking of which, after that little bug zapping foreplay game, Quinto goes from lying face down on the floor to standing up without bending his knees at all. Impressive! Also loved the shot of Peter running down the fire escape and Claire falling alongside.
Ability types being inherited: some are, some aren’t. I can live with that narratively; the finer points of human genetics are still open to study-geniuses do not necessarily have genius offspring, etc. Maybe some recessive gene shit- having abilities that differ from your parents’ are the blue eyes of the Heroes-verse.
Angela’s got something else going on besides the dream future imagery. Some very human manipulation skills at the very least. She was able to psychic-chat with Sylar from her coma while he was strapped down with the chocolate milk IV- I don’t think he has any mind tricks in his repertoire to get into her head from afar.
ISTR Gabriel the Waffle Guy saying something like "I won’t let you take my ability’-suggesting he could some how prevent Peter from hoovering it up. Who knows what skills he’d acquired over the years-a psychic firewall could be one of them. From the looks of that house he’d developed the ability to levitate the contents of a Toys r Us into his living room.
The thing that I just can’t fanwank is Gabriel being able to empathetically take a power. Going from a hands on visual/tactile method of power swipe to “I feel yer pain” absorption? Does not compute. *Maybe *if the power is being used on him,(Bzzzztttt!) he can learn that way, but the brain slice method was active learning.
I tellya, if Ramamurthy goes off this show, I’m outta here. Even if he’s bugmonkey man, he still can act his way out of a paper bag. The hawt don’t hurt, though:D
As for Angela’s powers - they were in HER mind after all - its not that much of a stretch to think that she had enough sense to somewhat counter him in her mind - taking control of the dream so to speak.
(She couldnt do it without him there, so it was convenient for him to drop by).
Regarding Angela – hell, I’ve had the extreme misfortune to run across people in real life who can manipulate circles around Angela without batting an eye. One most certainly does not need superpowers to be a calculating, manipulative bitch. Some people are frighteningly successful at it, too.
In Alan Moore’s “Top 10” comic we see a billboard advertising this very store. The slogan is “You wouldn’t like me when I’m naked”.
Well interesting point on whether Arthur now needs to steal by touch any more to gain powers (and who knows? good one!) but he should logically have Nathan’s power anyway as being one of the absorbed abilities he stole from Peter. Much like we saw him using the power he swiped from Peter via Elle.
By the way, because I mentally tuned out during much of the Sylar/ Elle scenes did they explain what happened to cure Elle of her abilities going crazy like we saw two episodes ago? She seemed all better this week.
Sooo what Heroes is saying is killing without remorse or guilt is bad (see Sylar in S1 and, with a much lower bodycount, Elle in S2). But as a soon as you DO feel guilt, this makes you automatically a good person after all. So you don’t need to feel bad or guilty about it any more. And that’s it - no practical steps needed to try to make good on your past wrongs, just let it go. Your momentary guilt makes everything okay. Is ANYONE enjoying the radical plot and character changes with Sylar?
I swear if it wasn’t for the fact that Cristine Rose, Adrian Pasdar and now Robert Forster weren’t in this show, I would be long gone. Kind of a shame - this was once my favourite show of all time.
I’m not so certain that Arthur would have all of the powers that Peter had copied. Peter was using Elle’s electricity right up to the hug o’ doom, and that’s the power we saw Arthur later using. Back when Peter ran into Sylar originally, Sylar was using his TK, and that was the power Peter copied.
I suppose we don’t know which prognostipainting power Arthur was using, but it is most likely from Usutu.
Re: hawt Sylar. I was already getting a bit creeped out by myself for thinking crazy Sylar* was a bit sexy, but now I’ve seen pics of the actor rocking the Spock look … oh my!
*Crazy head-popping Sylar, not “I wanna be a good guy”-Gabriel. Especially when he talks in that creepy whisper.
Hrm. I had forgotten Arthur has the TK now. Telepathy and superhealing we know he got somewhere else. I assume he got whatever teleport power he used to jaunt to Africa from someone else, too. Since yet another person with Hiro’s power would be extremely annoying.
Generally speaking, I’ve been enjoying this season; this episode, however, seemed to be lacking…and this is supposed to be a sweeps episode, yes?
After Nathan’s declaration that he would go “kick down some doors” at Pinehurst, I was disappointed that he would just have a tense verbal confrontation with Arthur and then leave feeling conflicted.
FSM help me, but I’m beginning to like the Matt/Daphne match. Then again, it could be that anything that keeps Brea Grant onscreen longer works for me. Still seems kinda quick to be declaring love, but hey, that first surge of emotion when you really like someone can easily be blurted out as love in a passionate moment.
In the second season, I remember some fans complaining that the show was stalling, that whole episodes would go by dragging out storylines and not really advancing them. This season, the trend seems to be compressing storylines that probably should last 4 or 5 episodes into 2-3 episodes. The major problem is still an overabundance of characters; at least in this way, Heroes reminds me of the X-Men comics from the nineties. The end result is that you (as a writer) have to (a) Try to resolve as many dangling storylines as possible so you can concentrate on a single coherent story (b) Disappoint nearly everyone because you gave one of their favorite characters/storylines the short shrift in trying to accomplish (a). I think Heroes almost needs a bloodbath at the end of this storyline to whittle the cast down to a reasonable number.
Annie’s summary was highly entertaining; but then I think that if Annie used the same approach to summarizing any movie (say, LOTR: The Two Towers, or Taxi Driver) the result would also be “more entertaining that the actual show/movie.”
I still find the show to be entertaining, but each week I realize more and more how some other shows that I like (Supernatural, Dexter) are on another level of awesomeness.
I can no longer watch Heros during its normal airing time - I dvr it and watch it later to avoid commercials - I am in control of how much time I spend watching it.
Shows like Pushing Daisies, Chuck, Supernatural - I will “suffer” the commercials in real time in order to watch the show as it airs.
I noticed that, too - how did he do that? Did he pick up mad yoga skillz somewhere?
ETA: I forgot to give thanks to whoever was involved in the decision for Zach Quinto to actually have some chest hair. I had almost forgotten what chest hair looked like on a man on tv (it looks good. Real good.)
Peter had Hiro’s power, so I figured Arthur got it when he took the rest of Peter’s power. We know Peter had control over the TK, Electric, Teleporting/Time, Healing, Invisibility, Precog, and mind reading powers. So far Papa Patrelli has demonstrated 6 of those, only two of which we know/suspect he got from someone else.
I think what they want us get from the “Go ahead, work out your anger by throwing lightning bolts at me” scene is that Gabriel has learned to telekinetically do what he used to do, only without opening the skull. He gave himself Elle’s power and corrected whatever was wrong with her by psychicly poking at her gray matter.
I guess it would be wise for him to never transmute metals in front of the girl.
So who is drawing the comic book that Hiro and Ando looked at in the comic store? Isaac didn’t appear to have anything worked out that far in advance before he died.
