Heroes 2/19 - "Unexpected" (SPOILERS)

Last week: (La Femme) Niki (ta) didn’t suck, Matt didn’t die and Hiro didn’t matter.

This week: Let’s watch!

Nissan Versa! You’re all right!

Doesn’t Claire know it’s no good crying over spilt milk?

Was the bus driver Stan Lee?

Yep. It was Stan the Man. I was just about to post that info.

Yes, the bus driver was Stan Lee.

Did anybody else catch the license plate on Stan Lee’s bus?

Me neither.

I was surprised that Peter started to be able to control his powers so suddenly. From whom did he steal the voice thing that we heard when he was attacking Prognosti-Painter? So far he’s done flying, telekinesis, healing, invisibility, prediction, and…

I thought it was funny that it was Stan Lee that Hiro runs into after dumping Ando as his sidekick because a little known fact about Stan Lee is that he hates super-hero sidekicks. He’s on record about this and has shown it in some of the comics he’s written.

The very first thing that Lee ever wrote for Marvel (then Timely) back in the 1940s was a prose piece in a Captain America comic where Captain America picks up his sidekick Bucky by the ankles and swings him into a bunch of Nazis. Effective, but not very respectful of his young ally.

Then, in the 1960s when he brought back Captain America he did a retcon where Bucky had died in a bomb explosion at the end of WWII. So Lee ressurected Cap back but didn’t have to worry about his annoying sidekick anymore.

Mind you, I’m not saying that we should assume that Ando is gone permanently just because Stan Lee showed up, just that it’s funny that Lee showed up when he did. Afterall, Lee is a notorious cameo whore, not that I blame him.

No Nikki. Hooray! That alone made it an excellent episode.

Things just got interesting again, I think.

Alas, the Nissan Versa is now offscreen for a while…

Since Sylar exhibited that vocal effect and considering that Peter was never near enough to Eden for him to absorb her power, this establishes that the vocal effect is somehow associated with Sylar and Peter got it along with the TK. There was talk a week or two ago about Sylar’s vocal effect indicating that he stole Eden’s Voice; this puts that to rest IMHO.

Peter’s powers: Whoo-hoo!
The voice: something from Sylar I guess. I don’t think Peter ever met Eden.

Claire telling on her dad: epochal.

the Someone who Died: kick. in. the. gut. While I’m relieved thatour boys didn’t kill each other, & that Hope didn’t kill Ando, I really didn’t see that coming, & it’s a shame to see someone who was basically an innocent die like that.

I think the echoey voice thing Peter had was just part of the invisibility effect.

As for Stan Lee and sidekicks, yes he killed Bucky but then immediately tries to drop Rick Jones, Marvel’s official professional sidekick, into Bucky’s shoes. You can never take what Lee says from day to day as the absolute truth of the matter; he’s the PT Barnum of comic books and that’s why we love him.

I don’t think Ando’s story is over in this case. He was in the New York explosion dream. And metatextually Hiro needs a straight man to play off of. I fully expect Ando to show up for a dramatic rescue of Hiro in a few episodes.

It seems like they’re tightening the focus a bit with this episode and that’s good. The cast is getting a bit too large for its own good and with only six to eight more episodes to come this season it’s time to start dovetailing these plot lines.

Mrs Parkman sure pregged up quick.

Ahhh, but don’t forget…Peter can, as Cher likes to say, turn back time…

But wasn’t Peter’s contact with Sylar *prior to * Sylar’s contact with Eden? I might be forgetting some other incident, but at the homecoming game Peter and Sylar battle, then Sylar takes off and is captured by Eden and the Haitian. I don’t remember Peter and Sylar coming in contact since then.

I wonder how long Sylar thinks he’ll be able to follow Mohindar around and slice open people’s brains. Even Mohindar, as stubbornly clueless as he seems to be, will eventually figure out that my creepy sidekick + people on my list = gruesome murder.

Oh, yeah, that’s the other thing. Sylar got greedy. He could have just noted where they’d met these people, then come back for them later.

Dammit, I liked super hearing gal. Reminded me of my first riding instructor–tough, no-nonsense broad. Someone stop Sylar already, will yuh? I don’t want to watch episode after episode of meeting neat new people with cool powers, then watching them get butchered.

I’m reeeeally getting tired of all of this foreplay. I want some action finally, dammit! (And I’m a woman saying this.) In one of the earlier episodes, Hiro discovers the date of the Big Kerboom…something like November 14. That’s when he realizes he’d way overshot his hop into the future. He hops back, and I’m thinking…okay, the Big Kerboom will be in about a month or so, during sweeps. Makes sense.

It’s February now and I’m getting impatient. Meanwhile–is this supposed to be the Longest Month Ever for the heroes, or has there already been an interruption in the original timeline?

Didn’t surprise me who died. I figure it’d be someone more peripheral. And yes, I agree…Peter suddenly became verrrrrrrry good at mastering his powers. He’s a quick study, once he gets over the slow learner part.
