Heroes 2/19 - "Unexpected" (SPOILERS)

I’m pretty sure that Nathan had never actually flown around him.

Nathan flew when Peter jumped off the building when he thought he could fly.
Also, I noticed they at least tried to explain the human genome project silliness. He said something like “10 years ago you donated blood, and you checked a box that said that your dna could be used…”

Of course, that’s still total BS, right? The human genome project was the mapping of one particular strand of DNA, right? Not some compilation of data from a ton of sources. But at least, I guess, they realize their explanation is really weak and are trying to justify it somehow.

When Nathan finally admitted to Peter that he could fly, he told Peter that he (Nathan) had flown up to catch Peter, but wasn’t strong enough to hold them both aloft, until Peter started flying on his own. Nathan was flying when Peter sponged his power.

I think that was in the first episode, when he jumped off the building, and he and Nathan flew together.

Something that is bothering me now, that I think was first mentioned in the episode when Peter used Claire’s power after being thrown off the building:

If Future-Hiro says he doesn’t recognize Peter without the scar, how can he now get the scar if he can heal himself? Before, one could say that when he got it, he just didn’t have good enough use of Claire’s power, or that he can only use one at a time, but now we’ve seen him have mastery over all the powers he knows he has, and use more than one at once, so what gives? Does he lose them somehow?

And, of course, regardless of who actually blows up New York (remember, no one who thinks it’s Peter knows about Ted, or even Sylar, I think,) that person still has to be in New York. So why the Hell doesn’t Peter go away like everyone says he should? And, us the viewers, also know that if it’s Peter or Sylar, then they have to have contact with Ted before they can do it. But of course, Peter and Friends think it might just be a result of Peter absorbing so many different powers.

And dude, Ted more than anybody needs to meet up with the invisible man to control that radiation thing. Given that Matt has now spends what must amount to hours around him, he might want to go in for a check up in a couple days, just to be on the safe side. (Of course, it also seems that Ted’s abilities get stronger when he’s emotional, like how he killed the doctor in rage after his wife’s death, and when he visited her grave, the grass started dying.)

This show is my favorite comic book!
I get all of this and more:

Sparring scenes (Dr. Where v Peter)

  • “Get control of your power”

Super Gangs

  • Ted/Hana/Matt - aren’t they being bad?, they are (about to) holding the Bennets at gunpoint

Evil Mastermind

  • Sylar
  • The Big Bad (HRG’s superiors)

Mysterious Benefactor

  • Linderman

Super Love Triangle

  • Peter/Isaac/Simone - we’ll assume it’s over for now

I really love it when the Supers get together for some large purpose. It’s like having a Justice League/X-Men group without the costumes and letterheads.

Peter can use his powers selectively, so maybe he chose not to heal it in order to look badass.

I missed a couple of eps and was coming in to ask about this Zane guy, to see if he is always evil, or a split personality. But now I realize he’s Sylar?! :smack: Does he look really different or am I missing something?

They said they were going to pursue a make gay couple so I thought that would be Zane/Mohinder, but I hope not if Zane=Sylar!

He retains scar as a memorial to…

So far, he hasn’t been shown to be able to use multiple powers at the same time…

Wow, what an excellent episode. So much to talk about.

But for now, just one thing I don’t think anyone’s mentioned yet.

Haitian vs. Peter. Very interesting. Haitian wasn’t dampening anyone’s powers. Or was he? Peter had to throw Claude over the roof edge and jump off himself almost as if he had to get some distance from Haitian in order to fly. On the other hand, Peter TK’d the taser darts, so Haitian couldn’t have been power dampening. Dang! I really want to know if Haitian can dampen all powers or only certain types, and I really really want to know if he can dampen Peter, or if Peter now has Haitian’s powers and also an immunity to them.

Poor Peter though. I like him but now he’s so bad-ass he’s either going to have to burn out his power somehow or they’re probably going to have to kill his character.

Beyond the explanations already offered, perhaps Peter got his scar in Future-Hiro’s timeline because without Future-Hiro’s traveling back Peter would not have gone to Texas and never met Claire. This would indicate that Future-Hiro has greater ability to affect the “past” than Hiro does. Recall that Future-Hiro told Peter that he was risking a rift by being there. So with the greater ability to affect the past comes a greater chance of causing catastrophe.

I posited a while back that perhaps Hiro mentioned the scar knowing specifically mentioning it would prevent it from happening.

It could be that the Haitian can only dampen powers that he knows about and he didn’t realize Peter had caught teh TK. Or he could have refused to block teh TK as part of his campaign to subvert AED. Interesting question as to whether Peter has the Haitian’s powers.

Yeah, I was thinking last night that Peter’s not long for this world.

Yes, he has. He was invisible while using his TK power when fighting Isaac.

And I still don’t believe the Haitian has any power-dampening ability. The only time we’ve seen him use it to stop anyone’s power is Matt’s telepathy, which can be explained away because both Matt and the Haitian have “mind-based” powers, so it’s reasonable to assume one can affect the other. The Haitian didn’t stop Peter from stopping the electro-darts, or flying away, or from being invisible around them (remember, they initially had to use the infrared goggles to see them.) Also, it was implied/said that Sylar’s powers were stopped because of the room/drugs they were giving him, which was true except for when he used his TK on Eden. (When he used it on the doctor and AED/HRG, we can assume that since they thought he was dead, whatever method of stopping his powers was stopped.)

Here’s hoping he doesn’t meet Walking Hero after he runs across Gum Chewing Hero.

Nathan made a reference to having sent someone to look for Peter. Is it possible that Claire’s dad and the Haitian are the ones he sent? It’s probably inconsistent with the plot line, but I just can’t recall right now.

And how, exactly, do you show an invisible person doing TK stuff?

we don’t ‘know’ he wasnt just walking around the room smashing things…

Lee didn’t make Rick Jones Marvel’s official professional sidekick, that was later writers. When Rick Jones first showed up he was just a supporting character in the Hulk comic. When Jones later put on the Bucky costume for the first time Cap yelled at him to take it off: the purpose of making Rick Jones Cap’s sidekick was so Lee could write stories about Cap coming to grips with Bucky’s death, not because Lee thought that Cap could use a sidekick. Also, I’m not sure how long Jones was Cap’s sidekick, but I know it wasn’t very long.

He also stopped Edens power in the six months ago episode. I don’t think anyone other than Peter and Sylar are supposed to have more than one power though and the Haitians is memory loss, but blocking someones power could be as simple as temporarily making them forget how to use it.

AED and the Haitian seemed pretty confident that they could just burst into Bennet’s house to stop Sylar with guns that had already been shown to be inadequate on him. They must have had some way to neutralize him. He thought so too. Otherwise why run?
