And it wouldn’t be surprising to me that Papa Sulu could say “I didn’t expect it to be you” if it’s Nathan. He was in the group masterminding Nathan to be New York’s Hero after the nuke, and “I didn’t expect it to be you” could be “I didn’t expect you’ve distanced so far from being our lackey.”
:dubious: Mmm-hmm. And your explanation for why Nathan is drunk and hirsute, hiding in Peter’s apartment having ostracized his family, 4-months after he was elected is… ?
It’s four months later. Nathan has clearly been shown not to be behaving like a Congressman. Ergo, he’s not.
The Spanish Inquisition would make much more sense, actually.
All implications have been that Hiro’s father was not part of the SuperFriends by that point in time. That was Linderman, Mama Petrelli, and Mr. Deveraux doing the plotting then.
To leave behind the debates on nicknames and predicitablity and the like:
I’m watching the episode right now on NBC’s website, and they offer closed captioning. This is good for me, since I’m eating crackers. All of the sound effects are in brackets, so you get [crickets chirping] and [door opens] and the like. They also use this for [Speaking Spanish] and [Speaking Japanese]
But there’s one exception!
When Hiro’s dad gets killed, it’s written (quotation marks mine) as “thud!” (That’s their capitalization.) And while Ando is subtitled as yelling “Sir!” the closed captions say (quotation marks mine again) “KAITO!”
Typos, or somehow incredibly meaningful and subtle hints?
I’m going with typos, but as someone upthread did say, with this being Heroes the really random junk has a much better chance of being true.
But in Hiro’s present, Kensai is a legendary hero and he saves the village. Now, the village is destroyed, so that means Hiro’s present has a different legend.
Or the legends have simply been distorted through the intervening centuries, and Hensai or however it’s spelled makes for a better story saving the village than letting it burn.
All Hiro did was save the man he thought was Kensei from death. We don’t know how far away Hiro teleported to, but the real Kensei was there. They then had to work what looked like miles just to get back to the town.
Something tells me it was going to be destroyed whether Hiro was there or not.
And for all we know, Kensei may save the village later because of Hiro’s pestering and THAT’S the event that gets written of in the legends.
That’s the way I see it. Kensei’s a slug, but it’s Hiro’s future, and he’s going to make the past fit his history, and Kensei’s going to end up a reluctant hero.
God I hope not; the reluctant hero is such a cliche and honestly haven’t we had enough reluctant heros in this series already? I’d love to see Hiro running around trying to do all these heroic things that Kensei’s supposed to have done while all the time Kensai’s in the background drinking and whoring and generally not changing his ways in any way because of Hiro’s intervention.
I’m okay with it working out that way, but Kensei’s still going to get the credit. Hiro can have the satisfaction of knowing he did it all, but the history books can’t be rewritten with Hiro Nakamura as the legendary hero.
Maybe that’s how FutureHiro becomes FutureHiro, with the soul patch and the sword slung on his back…he has seen horrors in feudal Japan and comes back jaded. So that’s how he has his sword and how PresentHiro has his sword…they got them at different times.
I’m ok with Hiro making the Kensai into the legendary hero.
I would love it if Nathan is the one offing the original superfriends and that he turns into a sort of bad guy and then him and Peter end up on opposite sides and they have to confront each other.
I’m also a peeved that they killed off Sulu without telling us what his power(s) is. Did anyone catch a hint that I may have missed?
I think there have been several hints in the show and speculation here that Mama Petrelli may have persuasion powers when she touches people because whenever Nathan would start to doubt the plan she would lay a hand on him and reassure him and then he’d stop doubting for a little while.
But as far as I can recall I do not remember any such hint about Sulu.
EDIT:
That’s interesting ** Ivylass**. I never thought about it like that.
Fine by me if Kensei (I am trying to refrain from calling him “Kensark” in deference to the nickname-haters) gets the credit, if they include many scenes of David Anders drinking and whoring. Especially whoring. Woof.
