Heroes 9/29

It was really the Walkman that gave future-seeing abilities.

Right, so aren’t we watching the beginning of Claire’s descent? Since we’re seeing how she ends up on this current timeline. No?

Well, that’s… weird.

Yeah, I was a bit WTF about that, too. I’ll assume she didn’t actually get killed in the explosion, but was knocked unconscious or something and died of smoke inhalation. It looked like there was something covered with heavy makeup on her forehead.

At this point, I’m getting really sick of the repetitions. ZOMG: Surprise relatives! ZOMG: Something bad in the future that must be averted! ZOMG: Future paintings! And now they’ve run out of ways to rip themselves off, so they’re having Suresh re-enact The Fly.

Fire Mom was also making another point - she specifically brought up 'water boarding" and how the recipient’s brain “thought it was drowning” and therefore acted as such, even tho there was no chance of it.

I took that too mean that Claire ‘could’ve’ dealt with the issue, but couldnt control herself - another part of the lesson FireMom was trying to teach.

I kept expecting her to do the line from The Matrix : “You think that’s air you’re breathing?” Showing that Clair really doesn’t need to breath or anything. I was surprised that they went a totally different way with that lesson. And a bit disappointed.

Yes, it’s like this show keeps missing the cooler prospects. I still like this show a lot, but there are a lot of parts of it that make me think that the writers are trying too hard, or something. I think they need to reign in the scope of the show a bit. It’s too unwieldy for them. Too many threads, too many characters, too many non-intimidating “threats”, it’s too big for them to juggle. It needs some focus.

Well, that would have been interesting. And the writers have struck up a deal with each other to avoid interesting at all costs.

Also, Hiro his butt-buddy, and pixie speed chick need to go away. The fucked up part is that before this season Hiro would do anything he could to stop bad shit from happening in the future. So, he sees Ando kill him in the future. Pre-Season 3 Hiro would have most likely done everything he could to talk with Ando. Make sure nothing got between them. Something. Something other than being such a prick that he makes me look forward to Ando killing him.

I guess they wanted tension between them. That’s fine I guess. But find REAL tension. You don’t get to just make it up out of thin air. Or a stupid flash forward.

And to conclude, bring back the imitator chick from Georgia. I don’t care about her story or anything. But damn she is freakin’ hot.

I kind of enjoyed the episode while I was watching it, but the more I think about it, the stupider every single bit of it becomes:
-Claire’s storyline. In addition to all the other dumbness pointed out, why does her bio-fire-mom, who as far as we could see spent her whole life in a trailer pretending she didn’t have a power, all of a sudden have any insights at all? And why would Claire think that someone who can make fire could reasonably teach someone who could heal how to fight? And if Claire is suddenly determined to help humanity, why doesn’t she sneak into a hospital and drip blood on accident victims or something?
-Sylar and Noah. WTF? The only thing that even REMOTELY makes sense here is that Mrs. Petrelli has mind-control powers and thinks that she has mind-controlled Sylar. But none of anyone’s actions make any sense. Sylar went rogue enough to steal the yelling power, but didn’t bother stealing bald-guy’s fire power when he had the chance? And still came back with Noah? And what the hell was Noah’s plan going into the bank unarmed in the first place? Why didn’t Marlo-from-the-Wire just kill him when he had the chance?
-Mohinder. He wasn’t in the episode at all, which was about the only good thing it had going for it.
-Nikki/Whoever. This actually is somewhat interesting, if not at all original.
-Parkman. Doo de doo, someone has eyes that turn white and can paint the future. Been there. And there’s a magical negro. Done that.
-Hiro and Ando and speedster. They’re charming and funny and cute and we love them, but the sheer amount of stupidity being displayed is baffling. (And that goes for the Haitian as well… you’re moving an incredibly important document which could destroy the world, so you send a guy who can prevent superpowers (which makes sense), but don’t bother to send any bodyguards or anything. Not to mention the silliness of having this formula preserved on two faded pieces of paper. Not to mention the silliness of not having destroyed it in the first place, etc.
-Peter and future peter. At least this is somewhat interesting and it’s not clear where it’s going.

Any theories on what Mrs. Petrelli’s superpower is?

Or for that matter, the powers possessed by any of the original gang of 12 in the photo? They’ve revealed a few - Parkman’s dad had the mind-control thing, Linderman could heal people, Bob could turn stuff to gold - but what about the others?

At the end of season 2, Mrs. P. was watching the film of Nathan getting shot - while talking on the phone and saying “it had to be done” or some such. It sounded like she knew of and approve the shooting - but this season she’s yelling at future-Peter to not mess up the timeline. Contradiction much?

She told future Peter she can see the future and that is how she knows he is messing things up because she saw he changed the future.

No. That was not us seeing how she ends up on this current timeline, that was us seeing how she would have ended up on the timeline that Future Peter gacked.

Hence, Mama Petrelli telling Peter that she had a really bad day she wasn’t supposed to have had (along with her Butterfly Effect technobabble).

The future that Future Peter is taking Present Peter to next week* will be the current timeline. And that will probably have Angsty Claire in it, too. But what it will not be is the ultimate timeline – 'cause Peter is a Hero, and he’ll go back and change it, despite everyone saying it cannot be done or that it is a bad thing.

I mean, it is almost guarenteed that Peter will muck around with the timeline, since Mama Petrelli said it would be a Bad Thing. That’s like her power – making her sons do exactly the opposite of whatever she tells them.

  • presumably next week; unless it’s another bait-and-wait like Mohinder’s storyline this week.

She dreams the future, it was Peters first power from season one.

So Kring & Co. have moved from borrowing the X-Men to borrowing the Legion of Super-Heroes…

Wish they didn’t kill off the bad guys so quick. “Oh, they’re gonna kill and conspire and-oops they’re dead or back in prison.” Their big plan was to rob a bank? Any repeating powers? Boooring. Gimme weather control. I wanted to see the sound guy really cut loose. And I agree that Sylar’s power is too…powerful, I guess. Should have just given him TK or something.

This was the first Heroes episode I’ve really, truly been disappointed in. Claire has apparently gone from “You won’t let me do whatt I want to so I’m going to go have sex with a flying guy” angst to “You won’t let me do what I want so I’m going to go kill people” angst.

The entire bank robbery scene was poorly done. First of all, Sylar’s complete personality change was completely unbelievable for me. Apparently all it takes for him to be good is somebody to tell him they’re his mother and give him a new superpower? He’s completely badass for two seasons and suddenly he turns it all around? I’m all for anti-heroes and villains becoming heroes and vice versa, but I prefer it to work, not for it to happen in the blink of an eye for basically no reason.

And then, correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t this “volume” called Villains? I was expecting some real badassery, not a two-episode arc where two of the Villains are now dead and one’s back in jail. Complete waste. And also, seriously, I get Peter has the stupid virus but did Future Peter contract the douchebag virus too?

“Wait, you can’t take me! People are in trouble here!”
“The world’s in trouble, so clearly I can’t take an extra 30 seconds to secure these guys instead I’m going to yank you into the future against your will.”

The only good part about this episode was Daphne and Hiro/Ando. Even though Hiro was a complete moron, I’m liking the character interaction.

Man, I really like this show but this episode was a dip into season 2 level of storytelling. Bad.

“Even though I’m a time traveller and can freeze time, as I’ve done so we can have this conversation. Well, screw these people, let’s go!”

Please to esplain to me – where exactly did Present Peter’s physical body come from?

Man, this show is so full of inexplicable ridiculousness. It’s like the writers just sit down and decide what they want to happen and then hire a bunch of 6-year-olds to explain how it gets there.

I am not buying Sylar as a good guy a-TALL. What reason does he have to suddenly follow someone else’s orders? 'Cause Mommy said so? What does he even care if Mama Petrelli IS his mother; he killed his last one!

I don’t have a lot to add other than…

The power that’s too terrible to talk about is screaming really loud?!

Really?

I mean if it was making someone’s circulatory system jump four feet to the left I could see it. Okay you’d be a bit squeemish for people who go around murdering guys who get in your way but but you might not bring it up in polite conversation. Or if it was something that caused horrific, long term effects that would cause the victim to suffer for years before they finally got a merciful death. Sheesh.

Folks, Sylar is not a “good guy”. He didn’t have a personality change, he has not suddenly changed his ways. He told us why he is doing what he is doing when he and Noah were driving to get the escapees – he wants to see what Mama Petrelli is up to. That’s it.

Also, I think that the escapees are not the “villains” of this season’s title. Mama Petrelli almost certainly is, as is Sylar.
