Heroes Assemble! All City of Heroes Discussion Here

Well yes, there is that irritating thing. And if they keep following you and doing it, that’s griefing. But if they head off afterward, well, it’s a wee bit rude, but if it’s a one-time-accidental thing…well, check the EULA. Griefing is against the rules but KSing is not specifically there.

We have the power to change SG names and will, as soon as we know about them. Petition it with the name of the SG and the name of someone in it and we can go from there.

I could very well be wrong – I’m not up on the mechanics of what powers work how with one another.

deep breath

When someone’s name needs changing it’s a pretty quick process. If we can catch them in the game we can do it right there unless the name is really really REALLY offensive or they’re known troublemakers. That gets a kick. As for copyrighted names, well, be careful, and realize that trademark is partly costume and partly name. So a guy named Wolverine who looks nothing like any of the comic book Wolverines is more or less home and dry. I mean, a wolverine is an animal after all. Just use a little common sense and be thoughtful.

Man, with these talks on innappropriate names, I hope my precious Knob Goblin is safe…he is safe, right? I can’t bear to no longer have enemies yell out,

“It’s time to beat up on Knob Goblin!”

Well, courtesy of some intense grouping in Perez Park, Balanced is now level 8. I’m still managing to solo, but it’s requiring more patience. A couple of level 11 Skulls nearly sent me to the hospital tonight.

Maybe I’ll get a chance to hook up with some of you guys this weekend. I’ve got enough healing to be useful now; I picked up Heal Other tonight.

The White-Russian will be hanging around this evening, doing a little hunting in an effort to move him towards 10th level.

Unless someone comes along with something they need one of my other characters for.

Why would he be? It’s clearly a reference to both a body part and a sexual act, which are forbidden by the agreement you click through every time you play.

Statesman responded to one of my posts! Called me by name. Yeah, I do the dance of joy.

I dance the Dance of Great Congratulations. (Now there’s a thought–a Quoppina hero. Are wheels a body option for tech origins?)

So, what’s the scoop on him being missing in-game? I caught a mention of that, but I was distracted by the joy of finally being a member of C.E.C.I.L. and missed any details.

It seems he’s back. He was missing until Issue #1.

Well, the gave me another code. Hopefully that means I can join after today.

Now, what to play. A empathy/psychic blast defender? Or a Dark/Regen scrapper?

Decisions, decisions…

Thanks for the team-up, Balance! I made it through several missions without dying, and that hadn’t happened in a while.

I expect the White-Russian will make another appearance Thursday, so I can finish getting him to the magic level 10.

My pleasure–I had a blast (pun definitely intended). It was nice not having to play uber-cautious. I soloed for a while after you went off, until I made the mistake of pulling a group of Skulls that had a Bone Daddy hiding around the corner. So, I have some debt to work off; if we go beat up stuff Thursday, it should get me to 10.

Menocchio,

Keep in mind that defenders have a harder time soloing. I like Eliza, but she almost always needs to be grouped. With a secondary blast, she can solo, but its very slow going - she needs to take on small groups a level below her or singles at her level or a level above. Two yellows will almost always take her to the hospital. On the other hand, she works well in groups and is almost always welcome. Because she doesn’t draw a lot of aggro if I keep my hands off the blast buttons, she can group with higher level characters without being SKd and rake in XP.

For some reason I solo with my defender very well. Maybe I just choose a good power set? I have kinetics/dark blast. My stategy is to use the sniper-like power to hit the boss first, then rail on him with all my other blast powers. I have one healing power I use often, but maybe the best thing is the ‘repel’ power. Anyone that gets close to me is thrown back. Enemies that don’t use ranged weapons pretty much never get to attack me. Of course, sucks my endurance likes it’s its job.

My main character, Gassius Clay, is a radiation emission/radiation blast defender. He’s able to solo well.

I wouldn’t say that he can solo effectively, since he requires periodic downtime to recover endurance – my biggest mistake was not selecting the Fitness power pool and getting Stamina. Endurance drain is my major hurdle in every combat and I suck down those inspirations faster than anything else.

With Accelerate Metabolism (~20% damage boost), Assault (~10% damage boost) and Enervating Field (~75% damage boost) I can kill a group including a yellow without a problem, a solo orange with a few inspirations, and a solo red with a crapload of inspirations.

On the other hand, like you said, grouping is far more effective. When I group, I turn on Maneuvers, Tactics, Assault, Accelerate Metabolism, Choking Cloud, and throw an enervating field on a target. The AOE buffs are nice, the cloud has a pretty good hold now that it’s six-slotted, but that enervating field makes a huge difference in how fast a group can move through a mission – it nearly halves the time it takes.

Only five hundred thousand xp left until Atomic Blast…!

Defenders solo “okay” in my book. Stranger can take on small groups of even-cons decently enough…

My Tanker has trouble. To begin with, my main attacks (one of which has a maxed out Accuracy Enhancement) seem to miss 50% of the time against Even Cons. I suffer from running out of Endurance quite a bit. Of course, this is generally against slightly bigger groups than the Defender faces. The Russian took some serious pain against the Vahz last weekend, though.

The Scrapper - what can I say? If there’s an archetype that I believe could do the entire game Solo, this would be it.

The Blaster - Pretty good soloing against even-cons. Blasters may be fragile, but what you kill first can’t hurt you.

Controller - haven’t played my Controller on Justice in a little while… She solos fairly well so far.

I think I’ll start with the scrapper then, and make a defender after I learn the ropes.

He’ll be on Virtue and, if at all possible, have some kid of Jester theme to him.

Finally tracked down the Stateman’s post that E-Sabbath is talking about. What is the detective stuff anyway? I guess I don’t follow the CoH boards closely enough.

You can indeed solo with any archetype. How “well” is mostly a matter of how long it takes to arrest villains, which is partly a function of archetype and partly a function of power and enhancement choices. My main, Thermocline, is a blaster, and solos really fast. He’s a fire blaster, so his main attack is a big area effect, and has 6 single-origin damage enhancements in it. With Build Up and Aim, he can take down a group of 8 even-con minions with a single blast, or yellow minions with two (Fire Ball and Fire Breath).

I think the perception that defenders don’t solo well is partly a comparison of how much faster the damage types can work through enemies, and partly a matter of where you put your enhancements. I have a rad/rad defender as well, and he sucks on toast soloing. On the other hand, I have no extra slots in my attack powers at all, so I’m doing base damage. His debuffs are well-slotted, so he’s a great asset to a team, but not much fun on his own.

Scrappers do tend to die a fair amount early on, Menocchio. Their attacks are short-range, so they risk getting hit a lot. I believe the best of the defense sets is Invulnerability, since it grants damage resistance rather than the damage avoidance of Super Reflexes. I bet **D_Odds **will disagree with me, though.

If you want a character that’s easy to play and pretty safe, if somewhat slow to take down enemies, you can also try a tank. That’s what **Dangerosa **did for her first character, and it helped a fair amount, I think. Tankers are really hard to hurt, even early on. The main complaint they have is people running in to help them as they stand toe-to-toe with a boss, whittling him down.

A lot of Eliza’s defender powers just don’t apply when she solos. She does an area heal that heals herself, but she can’t fortify herself, can’t heal other herself, can’t clear mind herself. She can aura recharge herself - that is also an area effect. The upshot is, when I want to solo a lot, I ignore the defender set (except area heal) to beef up the blaster skills - and they I might as well play a blaster and get the bonus for it being the primary skill - which would solo better (but even blasters are better off grouping - I spend a lot of time following Brainiac4’s blaster TC around - keeps him from most trips to the hospital - though I lost him once last night, plus lots of xp for me, as he is about six levels higher currently.

My biggest complaints on Kindele - my fire tank - is that she takes darn near forever to kill anyone (though Eliza isn’t much quicker), and that she has no hold and no range attack - its toe to toe with everything. Since I have the worlds worst movement skills on this end of the computer, that can be frustrating.
