A small update. Due to technical difficulties, the member roster is now hosted here: http://sdmb.culex.us/members/
The base directory, http://sdmb.culex.us/ , has links to all of the CECIL-oriented data, if you wish to bookmark something.
Gah. I’m about to give up here. I’ve upgraded to XP, upgraded my video card to a 9600, tried the latest drivers (both OEM and Omega)…and it still doesn’t work. Previously, it locked up my computer with the “Loading” bar on the screen. Now it lets me get to the login screen, but when I click the login buttom, it makes a thunking sound and hard-locks my computer, requiring a reset.
Does anyone perchance have any brilliant insight on this problem?
Contact the City of Heroes support staff. They’re pretty good. And they’re pretty quick.
Balance, that happens to me once or twice a week too. I’m also running XP, ATI 9600XT, half a gig or ram. The only thing I find that fixes it is doing a system restore to the most previous restore point. Then I’m able to get in no prob.
Thanks, Max, Gamera. It’s somewhat comforting to know this happens to others as well, but I have no previous working state to restore. I’ll give the support folks a shot when I get a chance. I’ve checked the site for similar problems, but it’s time to bug them directly.
BTW, in my little world, “giving up” often means “giving up on doing it by myself”. I’m stubborn that way. :wally
The most recent update f’ed my system really bad. I got to the character select screen then got funky snow, then total lockup. Five hard resets (hold the power button, no piddly reset switch) later, I finally was able to get into safe mode and back out my Omegaware drivers.
So you’re getting off easy – at least your system was booting.
Seriously, while I love this game, it’s one of the least compatible I have played. I have a p4 2.2 with a GB of RAM and a gf4ti4600, running Windows XP. It’s not exactly a rare configuration. And yet I have had dozens of hard crashes – all the way to my machine rebooting – with various iterations of drivers.
IIRC, there is a Geometry Buffer setting that is problematic on some cards. If you can get in you may be able to try changing that and see if it helps.
Eliza Bennett and I were hunting lost last night, and I noticed all the scroungers are wearing clown faces.
I wasn’t bugged, as I already have an irrational fear of clowns. (I can blame Poltergeist and It for that.) When did this happen? Does this mean the Los are in league with the Freakshow?
Hee, Freakshow ain’t clowns, they’re techno-drugged-weirdies that replace portions of their bodies with robot parts. The Carnival of Shadows, they’re clowns. I hate them so much. But Lost shouldn’t have clown makeup (like from character creation) on – the Freaks NOR the Carnies are what THEY’RE involved with. They do have stupid faces, maybe you were mis-seeing?
Like I meant (not what I said), does that mean the Lost are in now league with Carnival of Shadows?
Seriously, head over to KR or Skyway and check out some of the Scroungers. The Headmen are still wearing their TVs. Dangerosa, you can back me up on this, can’t you? Tell Toaster I’m not nuts.
Question for our more expert members:
Does Superspeed stack with Swift and Sprint? Does Super Jump stack with Hurdle and Combat Jump?
Yep, I’ll back you up. Though I’ve always thought they looked like that. Some of the scroungers have what looks like clown makeup.
Here’s half an answer:
Swift and Sprint stack. Hurdle and Combat Jump Stack.
Do they stack with their respective travel powers? I dunno.
I think we need another visit from our resident GM. LPN?
Yes, they all stack, and are meant to. Swift (1 SO++) and Speed (1 SO++) maxes your running speed, however, at the game’s cap. Keep that in mind.
No, Lost are not affiliated with the Carnival of Shadows. They are affiliated with another group of enemies instead. (Perhaps check out the CECIL board or picture gallery, as it has examples of how, if you don’t mind spoilers.)
Brainiac4 and Dangerosa: Sorry about the mix-up last night. When you first sent the invite, I thought you were talking about a taskforce. That what I get for hanging out in Skyway where the entire broadcast/request channels are full of people looking for taskforces.
Pleonast (as unofficial keeper of the roster): I’m going on vacation next week (Taking Pinky to meet more relatives.) So when ME, Maj, and Dimmy show no activity for a week, that’s why.
Everyone else: Something amusing. As Master Electric was getting on the train in Talos, some one asked, “Master, Why you turn out my lights?”
Last night, after levelling and picking up Teleportation for the first time (only Superjump to go), I found out how good it can really be.
I was near Synapse/Valkyrie, doing some SG talking, ignoring everything else in the chat box. I start to move toward a store, while working on some binds. There was a guy spamming the local channel with “can i join” (caps would have been too much).
Well, while playing with binds, chatting with the SG and checking enhancements, this keeps up (can i join) (can i join) (can i join).
I move out of local range. Oops, seems he was talking to ME.
However, like a cagy Sorcerer, I decide test out my new power. Unlike the other movement powers, he can’t see where I’m going. Several hops later, my box is once again relieved of white lettering.
Flight, super speed and super jump, he could see which direction I was headed. Here, I was quickly lost from sight, and a few clicks later, out of targetting range.
On another note…boy, does TP sure need hover!
So what’s the deal with people who run by me and send me team invites? Are they trying to get me on a team so they can leech XP from me? Just too busy to stop and ask if I want to join?
Sup R-HRO and White-Russian should be seeing some action Saturday and Sunday, busy trying to level up to 10 - if anyone needs the services of Eternal Ninja or Shadow Stranger in the meantime, please feel free to send me a message, especially if it’s a task force.
Candid, you might want to check your team menu and see if you have Seeking Team turned on. I have seen reports on the COH forums that it sometimes will toggle when zoning.
Lok
I have played the game for a total of, I think, five hours now and I get asked to join teams constantly.
I’ve put it down to my incredible good looks and magnetic personality… and then I remember that no one can actually see me.
Over on the C.E.C.I.L. board we’re having a vote on what to use for rank titles in the supergroup. Be sure to vote if you want a say.
Candid, are they random invites or someone who’s been hunting in the same area. Several times I’ve teamed up with people when we’ve met hunting in the same general area. Of course, we usually use chat in local or with tells before actually teaming.
I’ll be getting Teleport with one of my characters in about half a level. I already have Hover, because of the problems I’ve read about un-hovered tele.
