Heroes Assemble! All City of Heroes Discussion Here

The last time it happened I was standing next to Henry Peter Wong of HeroCorp in the back of Atlas Plaza. I wasn’t hunting at all.

Drive-by invites:
They’re annoying. I refuse on principle 99% of the time, figuring that someone without the communication skills to say “Want to team up?” is not someone I want to team with. My own rule for invites is to always, always ask first. Even if someone is seeking a team, I ask first. I’ve found that about 10% of the time, someone on the Seek Team list is not seeking – I’ve even had people in a TF who were still on the list.

Teleport:
I have it on Super-Collider, and I like it. It’s emphatically not a combat move power, although it’s a good escape power. It’s good for traveling, and the lack of Hover is okay once you learn how to work it. The teleport bind is essential:

/bind LSHIFT+LMOUSE “powexec_name Teleport”

This causes you to teleport to wherever you click the mouse. It allows fast teleport sequences (no need to activate the power, choose a destination and then, woops, I’m FALLLINNNNNNNG). You just hold shift and click-click-click across the zone.

Slot some End reducers in there, though – it eats End like popcorn.

I had a great team up with a drive by invite. But most I refuse. Its difficult to get an immediate bead on who is inviting you - and I’ve spent to much time on teams that are too low for me (as opposed to the “old married folks group” where they are all a few levels higher and I get XP like anything).

I’m getting concerned about the whole kill-stealing thing.

I started just sending a message saying “Please don’t kill steal” when someone does it to me. They usually apologize, but there are a few who either say nothing or curse at you.

A few days ago, as I logged on, I noticed a person battling 5 Hellions. His health level was very low. I thought I would be helping him out by taking 1 or 2 of the guys away from him. After the battle, he follows me around, kill stealing from me for a good 10-15 minutes. I called him on it, and he cursed me out. We ended up talking it out, and we both apologized. But I’m wondering: Can you not even help someone who looks overmatched? I would ask if he needs help, but when I’m fighting, I can’t stop to type a reply and stay alive at the same time. What is the protocol here?

I don’t want to be a jerk, but I’ve appreciated it when I’m getting my butt kicked and someone steps in to take some of the heat off.

I have a bind set up to find out if they need help. And of course, if I need help (Well, someone besides Justice Blues anyway.) I just hit F8.

l “local Need a hand there $target?”

OTOH, there are times when you need to jump in without asking. I exited the generic store in Steel Canyon while playing a level 11 scrapper and a guy ran up being chased by a level 13 Tesla Knight. I backed up to watch and noticed hit health was low, so I targeted him. He was a level 9 scrapper, with his health down to a sliver. I jumped in and took out the Knight, barely. He thanked me, said he had ran around a corner and right into it. If I had even taken the time to hit my bind, he would have fallen.

I just recently rebound my F8 key (the HELP one) to say “If you need help, hit F8.”

I have a much easier time saving folk than most – either I have my bubbles and healing on Drone 47303, or my healing and buffs on Joel Thorton, Fulgur can disorient or, for very very minor damage, immobilize the enemy for a massively long time, and Megs my tank can Taunt them off without damaging the enemy. People can’t really complain if you don’t deal damage and thus can’t hurt the XP.

And it’s a good thing we’ve trained Justice Blues to run back over to, typically, 47303 for a heal when he’s in bad shape, like in the Bastion TF.

Of course, I am not some silly scrapper that hangs around in combat longer than I should. If I get to the point where I need healed, I go get healed.

SON OF A BITCH! Well, maybe I can get him to delete his account. Will that work?

Wouldn’t be the account, would be the registration code (the one that shows you didn’t get a hacked copy) that came with the box. Did he actually play the game? And also I think you can probably buy a code from NCSoft, which I suspect people with two accounts (like for their spouse and themselves) do, instead of buying the CDs and stuff twice.

Buying the code means buying another copy. I checked. Seriously, this blows. I buy most of my games secondhand. The one time I try to get a game new to the market I end up losing money because of some assinine security policy. I think I have some bonus dollars coming to me from Best Buy.

By which i mean I may pick up the game tomorrow, using my bonus bucks.

I hate this. I feel cheated but I don’t think the guy who sold me this thing knew it would be worthless to me.

Hey, bouv is back and better than ever!

After more than a month long hiatus, I’m playing again! I graduated and was at my parent’s place where the only computer that could connect to the internet was my dad’s POS that couldn’t even begin to dream to play CoH.

Anyways, I’m playing on Virtue, almost exclusivly with my (currently) level 11 defender (kinetics/dark blast) Knob Goblin.

Well, it’s not completely asinine. The code in the box gets you your first month of play, for one thing. But it is annoying.

I’m a little confused, though – I thought you got this on ebay? The seller shouldn’t have sold you the game, since it’s worthless – unless, of course, they’re going to claim that the box, manual and map have some intrinsic worth. If there is any claim of being able to play the game, you may have some recourse through either ebay or paypal (if you paid that way), since the sale was fraudulent.

FWIW, any game with an online component is a bad buy on ebay. They’re likely to have a registration key that’s already been used.

I have no idea how I just double-posted. Weird.

Well, I know that now.

I got several copies of Diablo II with no problem, but I guess that’s a whole 'nother kettle of fish since Battle.net is free. I’ve told the seller that I will be contacting the proper authorities if my he doesn’t give my money back. I’m not too optinistic, however, since he never said he didn’t play the game, and he did send the CDs and literature (no box, which was advertised). Which would be useful if I needed a backup, I guess.

I’ll run out and buy it tomorrow.

I Hunger… For Justice.

AND I WILL NOT BE DENIED!!!

Saving the day at last!

After rebuilding from a clean hard drive, I finally got the game to run. If anyone sees a hooded, gray figure getting its butt kicked around Atlas Park on Virtue, it just may be Balanced, my Magic Defender (Empathy/Dark Blast).

I’ll see about hooking up with some of you folks once I get a clue. I’m usually too busy biting off more than I can chew to do any chatting at this point.

Don’t wait man. We can help you chew. And it is always nice to see an Empathy/anything defender show up. Some of our toons need healing a lot.

Lok

Virtue! Not Justice! Virtue!

 (C.E.C.I.L. is on Virtue).

Balance,

My main character is an empathy defender. They aren’t kidding - someone will team you to have you stand around and save them hospital trips - as long as they aren’t going into a restricted area. The job is easy. Put area heal on a button, follow team around, press button. Get targeted heal, watch for someone out of your heal range or really hurt, targeted heal them. Fortify if you have it as available. Don’t attack, that causes people to attack you (its tempting to use that blast- if you just have to, target the tank or scrapper - if there is one - and you will target whomever they are working on - little chance of them coming after you). Someone will sidekick you - which will make your heals more effective. You’ll level faster - much faster - if you don’t sidekick (I haven’t been sk’ing Eliza now for a few days - she is playing with people about four levels above her - and she levels really fast for being level 21 - she is beginning to catch up!) but I wouldn’t recommend that unless you are four levels or less below the other lowest person on the team.

Sometimes you don’t feel like you are doing much. But twice now I’ve left the team or stepped away to hear Brainiac4 start swearing from the other keyboard in the house…the moment I leave, they start getting hurt. When I’m around, they can take on bad guys of a higher level and get more xp (which they share with me), they move through missions a lot faster, as they don’t need to stop and heal. Blasters in particular LOVE empathy defenders (any defender really), because they are somewhat fragile creatures who do a lot of damage but have less than incredible defense.

Eliza is “well balanced” I spent a lot of time soloing early on, so she is an OK blaster (not great, its secondary, but capable). If I were going to start her from scratch, I’d spend more on teaming and just plan on always having someone else do the damage. Pick up teams are pretty easy to form via the team seek and team find buttons (and the request and broadcast channels) - although some of them are better teams then others (I’ve had more than one team lead by the poster child for ADD and his friend “we can take them!”).

Brainiac4 and I leave CECIL for our unofficial secondary Superteam, the married folks. The core is Thermocline (Brainiac’s blaster), Eliza Bennett (my Empath defender), another Empath defender, two controllers (gravity storm and a bubble) and another blaster. Sometimes we get a third blaster (or even a forth), and occationally we pick up tanks or scappers. The defender/controller/blaster team is very effective. No one dies - unless we are really in over our heads or they are stupid and wander away from the group, a ton of damage is laid down very quickly.
