You are going to hell for that.
The scene I am thinking of was “hours” later at the bonfire, and after the morphing to/from the president - one would think he would’ve washed his face at some point.
Which begs the question - would shapeshifting heal atleast ‘basic’ wounds (scratches, not gunshots)??
When Peter (in the guise of President Worf) stabs Sylar with the tranquillizer syringe, he clearly says something like “Bet you didn’t think I would take that one”, indicating to me that he stole Sylar’s shape-shifting ability out of all the powers in Sylar’s possession.
Or the writers may have been ambiguous to give themselves a bit of off-season manoeuvring room.Or he doesn’t know what he got. Or he slaps Nathanlar on the ass at a family BBQ hoping to get ‘Nathan’s’ ability back and instead of flight gets the whole Sylar kaboodle, or just Sylar’s ability-suck. If this happens Peter could think it was his original empathy-hog ability returning and not be too suspicious. But the boy has been getting brighter these days
I’m gonna go with this one.
If I were Peter, I’d take Sylar’s “take other powers” power after he was unconscious, then begin my career as the most unstoppable asshole on the planet.
Terrible, terrible episode. I can’t believe that a show that was pure magic its first season has fallen so low. Where to start?
-
I’m sick of Hiro losing his powers. Season one, he loses them until he steals Takezo Kensei’s sword from Linderman. This season, he was stripped of his powers by Arthur Petrelli, got them back and now can’t use them because it’s killing him.
-
Also sick of Hiro looking like a chump. Hiro’s my favorite character, but this season he lost his father’s portion of “The Formula,” then he lost the one that Angela Petrelli sent The Haitian to retrieve. He asked his mother to give him “the light,” only to let Arthur take it (along with his powers). Let Hiro kick ass without turning into a joke.
-
All the inconsistencies. Didn’t Peter fly after the battle with Sylar? So he took more than just the shape shifting power? Sylar’s ability to figure out how things work makes him immune to certain powers, like when he unfroze time on Hiro in his mother’s apartment in season one or or when he overcame whatever power his biological father had used to restrain him, so how could Parkman do his Jedi mind trick on him? And didn’t Matt seem to get over his beloved Daphne really fast and start planning a life with annoying Janice?
-
They keep killing off great cfharacters. Eden, Charlie the waitress and Linderman in season one, Elle and Daphne this season. Daphne’s demise pisses me off the most because her power was cool and she was a terrific character, yet they offed her in less than one season while Ali Larter seems to have nine lives and as many characters.
I never thought I’d say this, but it wouldn’t kill me if they cancelled this mess.
-
The writers can’t seem to figure out how to handle Hiro’s powers. He is basically the most powerful person on the show (now that Peter can’t handle multiple powers). So he needs to be weaker. The were on the right track by removing the time-travel part. I still think the best way to have handled it was by making him powerless unless Ando “charges” him. So they would have to work together.
-
Eh, that was all Volume 3. They’ve pretty much gotten rid of that.
-
Nope, he didn’t fly. That’s why he couldn’t go after Sylar and Nathan.
-
I think they need the balls to kill off a MAJOR character. Every single character who survived the first season is still on the show. They had a chance to kill off both Sylar and Nathan (which would give them the perfect opportunity to introduce a new Big Bad) and instead the kept them both in one body.
They must’ve gone over-budget and couldn’t afford a stunt coordinator or something… that’s the only explanation I can think of for having the season finale fight off-camera. The hell.
I figured they brought the Secret Service in on their body-swap plan once Claire managed to convince them to listen (by sticking her head on his gun). So the real president was squirreled off by one set of SS agents, and the other group plus Liam-chief-of-staff-boy was a decoy. Shame about Liam, pretty sure he wasn’t counting on getting killed in the bargain.
I was hoping for better, and I liked Nathan because he was such a well-meaning fuck-up. Though I have to admit I liked seeing Angela become this distraught, desperate woman – such a poignant contrast to the steely cold bitch of the early seasons, and just excellently portrayed by Christine Rose. It added a great deal of depth to her character, and I liked getting to know her better. That was an amazing thing to watch.
There needs to be a Christine Rose fan club.
And oh yeah… where the hell did the Haitian go? The man’s got some bad-ass hiding skills, there’s been not a peep from him since Nathan brought the government in.
He deserve to go, just because that actor did the worst Sylar impression ever. The guys who played Nathan and Danko did a great job of being Sylar pretending to be themselves.
As far as I can tell he knows exactly what he got. After the (non)fight with Sylar, Claire asks Peter “did you get it?” to which Peter replies “yes”. I am assuming that Claire was referring to a specific power (“it”) and not to the scratch on Peter’s head, or to the gamut of Sylar’s powers (which would have been better referred as “them” or “them all”).
The information we have from previous episodes is that Peter can only copy and hold one power at a time - whereas before being drained by his father he could absorb any number of powers.
We know for a fact that Peter has the shape-shifting power after the (non)fight with Sylar, since he morphs into president Worf. The cut on his head does not heal, so it’s safe to assume he doesn’t have Sylar’s healing power.
The logical conclusion I see is that Peter stole Sylar’s shape-shifting power during the fight, replacing his power of flight.
With writers as sloppy as the gang who writes “Heroes” anything is possible but, unless we start assuming additional unknowns, the conclusion that Peter’s only acquired power is now shape-shifting seems the safest one.
You lost me!
Maybe it was a budget issue but I think the lack of action in the finale (and the last several episodes) arose from the same laziness that ruined the show in Season 2. Remember the soppy and interminable teenage love affairs and time wasting? That tripe is really easy to write and film.
Very true. Poor Hiro, he suffers from the classic superhero problem of being too powerful for the good of the story. In order to retain dramatic tension the (bad) writers have to keep putting clumsy and contrived roadblocks in Hiro’s way, the chief ones being the various incidents that cause the loss or reduction of Hiro’s powers, and the comedy of errors routine that he and Ando seem to be stuck in every single episode.
Honestly, who the hell wants to see Hiro and Ando babysitting a damn baby that stops their car for a whole episode? Time wasting when there’s a compelling story to get on with.
If the writers of Heroes paid more attention to the classic superhero comic books they might be surprised to realize there are more graceful ways of getting around the Hiro problem - or at least solutions that involve fun and adventure, which are two things the writers seem to want to avoid at all costs. There’s a rich tradition of comic book characters who are basically “too powerful” but who nonetheless feature prominently in great tales, sometimes for decades: Superman, Thor, Dr. Manhattan, Professor X, Phoenix, etc.
Something else I thought of; it was a great big deal to convince Parkman to agree to the mindwipe plan, but Peter (assuming he is in agreement with it) could have just shaken Matt’s hand and acquired his ability and done the whole mindwipe thing without having to make Matt do anything against his conscience.
I can’t imagine Peter going along with it, though – he loves his brother and hates Sylar. Note that it’s the two “morally grey” characters that come up with this plan, and they send the “I wanna save the world” characters (Peter and Claire) off on an errand so they never find out about it.
If anything, Peter would cause them more trouble trying to get him to agree to it.
So can Peter Petrerri touch someone without absorbing their powers?
Absolutely. I don’t recall them actually telling us that, but when he saved his mother in that elevator, he didn’t absorb her dreaming power; they flew off together.
He apparently had trouble controlling it at first (he bumped against Tracey on the plane and then accidentally froze the fuselage), but he’s clearly been gaining better mastery of it over time. Pretty quickly too… glad to see he’s learned something from his first manifestation.
He’s also flown off with Matt Parkman in tow.
Forgot to add that I agree the “fight” between Sylar and two guys that can just fly was ridiculous when Sylar could’ve just used his TK too freeze both in the same spot and patiently slice their heads off. The fact that Heroes is so sloppily written with such blatant disregard for continuity makes it impossible and pointless to establish a cannon. With Lost, I enjoy discussing theories with other Dopers, but with Heroes, it seems a waste of time when so much can be dismissed as careless writing.
I’m really losing affection for this show. It’s a pity that they don’t have writers who are more talented and have real passion for the material. I place the bulk of the blame on Tim Kring, who strikes me as a hack who lucked into a great idea that he lacks the skill to execute properly.
