Heterosexuals: can you generally tell whether someone of the same sex is attractive?

I’m a hetero woman. I can generally tell if a woman is attractive. My hubby, OTOH, being (duh) a hetero male, cannot usually tell if a man is good-looking. Oh, he knows butt-ugly when he sees it, but aside from that. . .nah.

What is it about Mike Rowe? If you’d seen him before he was on TV, would you still find him attractive? Is it the rugged persona that makes him attractive?

Strangely, I think it’s the voice most of all. He’s not super handsome compared to Brad Pitt and some of the Hollywood pretty boys, but the whole package somehow makes me swoon. Decent height, he’s in fairly decent shape without being obsessed with the gym, good smile, nice eyes, laughs a lot.

Yeah, even not famous, I’d have found him attractive.

Agreed about “not famous, I’d still find him attractive”. A combo of not being afraid of hard work (or to clean up the messes I don’t want to touch, like when a kid pukes ) and reasonable intelligence, and a sense of humor, adds up to “attractive”.
