Hey, Any Dopers Wanna Go To The Ann Arbor Art Fair?

[Airplane!]
I just want you to know, we’re all counting on you. Good luck.
[/Airplane!]

 But how much peril can one possibly face at a public art fair, anyway? I mean, it’s not like you’re going to ambush me in the parking lot… Oh.

An abacus would be more reliable.

FTR, it doesn’t look like Medea’s Child is going to make it.

mrblue, don’t worry. I’ll fend off these dangerous women! :assumes karate position:

And just think, all the guys will be jealous 'cause you’re spending a Saturday with a bevy of lovelies.

Btw, everyone…

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHAT FREAKIN’ TIME I’M SUPPOSED TO BE AT BRIARWOOD MALL!!! Sheesh, I practically had to arm-wrestle someone to get the directions. [sub]Why yes, it is that time of the month. Why do you ask? Why is everyone looking at me. :runs from room in tears:[/sub]

BTW, Juniper

Excellent!

I cannot find out exactly where the shuttle bus leaves from at Briarwood. Of course, I assume it will be well-marked there at the parking lot. So shall we meet by the shuttle bus stop? Just don’t get on the buses until we find our group. Alternatively, we could meet inside the center court of the mall, which would give us a cool place to be while waiting for all to assemble. Whichever is fine with me.

I never heard a time. The fair opens at 10 a.m. and the shuttle bus starts running at 9 a.m. I recommend starting somewhat early, just because Saturday is a big day for attendance.

Incidentally, bring a little cash because the fare is $2. If you want to hop the art fair trolley (to go from one area to the other) that’s free with your shuttle ticket.

Well, how does 11:00 a.m. sound? I can sleep in, plus we won’t hit that first wave of people rushing to get there.

Wanna meet at the center courtyard or wherever Cranky said inside?

But aren’t you one of them?

Oddly enough, it wouldn’t be the first time I’ve been the only guy in the midst of a gaggle of pretty girls… it would be the second. The first time was nearly 10 years ago, so I guess I’m about due.

Grr… miss one little slash and everything falls apart.

Okay, I’m probably taking I-94 all the way to Ann Arbor. I just need to know where the shuttle bus meets at the mall and I’ll be there with bells on (or handcuffs, if you prefer).

BTW, I may be bringing my 13-year-old son with me, so mrblue’s hopes of being the sole male in a gaggle of girls will not come true this time. His birthday is one week from today and I want him to pick out something for his birthday, or at least give me an idea of what he might like.

The normal AATA (bus) stop is at the mall entrance next to Sears. Why don’t we just meet there? It’s really easy to find, as you will be closest to Sears as you leave 94 and State St. I think the shuttle will probably leave from there as the shuttles are all AATA busses and that’s where I remember them departing last time. There were signs around the parking lot pointing out the shuttle stop, too. The entrance is to the right of Sears, under a sign that, creatively, says “Briarwood.”

11 sounds good to me. Let’s do this thing!

I’ll be there, like Shadow says, with bells on at 11:00 a.m. at the Sears entrance.

Bunny, which Sears entrance? If the Sears at Briarwood is anything like all the Sears located at all other malls, there is going to be multiple entrances into the store.

Hey Shadowfox, you’re bringing your son? My daughter is 13 also.

11:00 at Center Court sounds good to me, too. I got an email from BunnyGirl suggesting breakfast–anyone up for that? There’s plenty of restaurants at the mall where we could grab a bite before we head out.

And mrblue, I do owe ya one. You drove me to Ann Arbor last time. In a blinding snowstorm. Remember?

Dammit, I won’t be able to go, I have to be at work by 3 Saturday! And I was so looking forward to cosseting MrBlue and feeding his scrumptious male ego.

OK, we’re having a Halloween Dopefest, and we’re having it in Lansing. This’ll give me an excuse to put together that sexy Girl Scout costume I’ve been planning for the last couple years. Bunny, wring, I suggest Emil’s or Clara’s and then back to my apartment for drinks and movies and whatnot. Sound cool?

Juniper, drop by some day when you get off work, dammit!

<<shyly stepping in>>

Hi. I realize I’m REALLY late stumbling into this thread, but I think it’s cool that you’re all coming to town; I had no idea there were so many local dopers. I work right in the middle of the AF (in fact, the tent city started springing up today around my office). I’m involved with a series of concerts (too bad you aren’t coming on Friday, or I’d invite you to stop in – free and right by the fair) and will be wrapping up while you’re cavorting and perusing; otherwise I’d at least try to say hello. I’ve never seen real live e-people before, and especially not such a lively bunch as this!

Have fun, and buy a painted bird feeder or support a political cause for me!

ciao

Woo-hoo! You must be my work neighbor. I too am in the middle of AF (Maynard & Liberty). I was getting really geeked today watching the tents go up. I saw this semi pull up and start unloading box after box of bottled water. I’ve never seen so many cartons of anything in one place. I saw an artist I bought a pot from last year, and chatted him up. I bitch about the hassle and we call it “Art Scare” but I truly love art fair.

I ought to be able to get my ass dragged over to Briarwood and find out exactly where the shuttle stop is. There are multiple Sears entrances, so if one of them isn’t a shuttle pick-up-point that might cause some confusion. I’m not sure they’ll use the same bus stop since the buses are still running their usual scheduled routes as well.

I’d be happy to post the location as soon as I scout it out. However, I still favor meeting inside the mall. It’s air conditioned, for one thing, and if someone gets there early they can shop, and if someone is running late the rest of us won’t be so impatient. There’s a coffee franchise right in the middle area there, amidst a bunch of seating, so you can grab some caffeine (maybe even a scone) while you’re waiting.

As for breakfast, I’d recommend eating at the fair (maybe an early lunch?) There’s tons of food, much of it surprisingly tasty.

I remember, but it doesn’t mean you owe me anything. I don’t keep a record of debts.

Cosseting? Scrumptious? You girls are evil. Evil!

…But don’t stop on my account. Perhaps we can get around to cosseting some other time…

[No! You’re a good boy! Stop that!]

Honestly, I have very little in the way of an ego. I think it got burnt up in my toaster one morning.

FYI, thinksnow already has one planned in Columbus on the weekend prior to Halloween… but not the day of.

Indeed I do.
Halloween Costume OhDope will be October 27[sup]th[/sup], in Dublin (Columbus), Ohio. That’s the Saturday before, a weekend, not the Wednesday of.

All are welcome: Michiganders, Pittsburgers, Indianiananians, those from Kaintuck and any other Doper that can make it.

tsarina, ts got in here before I could tell you about the Halloween DopeFest, but, yeah, it’s going to be in Columbus.

However, I’m going (hopefully with Persephone in tow) and you are welcome to hitch a ride with me/us. The more, the merrier! Check out the thread and see what you think.

Which Sears entrance? Shoot, I don’t know! I’ll wait for someone with knowledge of the actual mall to let me know. Good question!

So…anyone on for breakfast?

mrblue, there is a distinct difference between evil and naughty. I prefer to think of us as naughty.

Agreed. Even so, naughty girls need to be punished. First, the spanking, and then the…

[Stop that! Pure thoughts… pure thoughts…]
