PWUA (People Who Use Acronyms) and terms they assume people will know (spoiler: they don’t)
Yo, Buddy! Here Lies Edward The King.
You’ve Been Here Long Enough To Know what YBHLETK stands for.
That doesn’t really apply, he explained the acronym earlier in the post (as you should!)
OK, my bad. I missed that.
I guess you’re not going to buy me a lunchbox, either. ![]()
I agree that the mods shouldn’t be snarky to newbies. That’s our job.
Regards,
Shodan
I think what you meant to say was OMBIMT.
mmm
iitywimwybmad?
But I’d question whether you’re not the man for those duties. A newbie might naively assume that your signoff signified polite formality.
As my wife says when I ask if she wants to have sex, “it’s a dirty job, but someone has to do it.”
Bless your heart,
Shodan
Moderator Note
Let’s keep other threads and issues out of this.
The reaction in this thread is what’s egregious.
For heaven’s sake, Chronos gave him an acceptable, mild reproof. If the poster can’t take that, he has even more problems in the real world.
Apology? T-shirt? SERIOUSLY?
So you consider mocking someone’s reading ability a “mild rebuke”? Because I would expect to be moderated for it outside the Pit. And that’s not including shutting down the entire thread over such a small thing.
Even regular posters here don’t get their threads shut down for posting in the wrong forum, outside of extenuating circumstances (e.g. they appear to be trolling, or have been doing it repeatedly). New posters usually get a kind welcome and an explanation for why the post didn’t fit in the forum they put it in, and what forum is better.
Despite what Chronos says, it’s not even so clearly the wrong forum. The first paragraph is asking a factual legal question. The second is more hypothetical, but I could see someone calling it a factual question given a certain premise. The third is a factual question about the rules of a movie.
Yes, I know it doesn’t fit GQ. But, given how the forum descriptions are written, I could see a first timer making that mistake. It’s not remotely uncommon at all for people to put a thread that should be Cafe Society in GQ their first time.
Retroactively I’m requesting my tee-shirt. Mainly becoz I need tee-shirts and I hate shopping. Red, size medium. But, really becoz a moderator beat me down when I was a crazy noob. Well, I’m still crazy, just not near as noob-ish.
God, I feel old.

I’m not even convinced CS is the right place for it. I have not seen any of those movies and don’t plan to. But I would find a theoretical discussion of this thought experiment an interesting one.
Chronos was out of order, especially to a newbie.
There are many message boards to choose from. If a new poster is told they are either illiterate :smack: or lazy  , they will go to another board.
And your pile on (that the newbie has real-life problems) is also disgraceful.
It wasn’t acceptable. It was rude and unnecessary.
Have you met Kayaker? He rarely posts without ensuring that his tongue is planted firmly against the buccal membranes of his mouth.

Chronos has apologized, and the thread has been re-opened and moved. Continuing to rehash this isn’t going to serve any useful purpose, so I think we’re done here.
