In all due respect here, I think that all of you have lost your minds. About half of the people are acting as if starting tomorrow, they’re going to wind up all the niggers, kikes, and fags and send them to a firing squard post haste. Or that three weeks from now the earth will have no ozone layer, ice caps, trees, or oxygen. Or that rich people will be able to go into every poor persons’ pocket and grab some extra change. Come on, folks. If Bush and the Republican party can manage that in four nee two years I’ll have to give them their props. That’s more than I thought they could possibly do.
The Republican party is not made up of a buch of goosestepping facists intent on screwing the weak. They are focus-grouped poll-handling legislator, nothing more, nothing less.
If they screw the country up 1/5 as badly as everyone on the opposite side thinks, they’ll lose the House in two years (remember they have elections every two years for every seat.) Remember 1993.
And I’m doubly sure Bush (or at least his handlers) won’t do anything to make him the most hated man on earth. He’ll walk the wobbly right of middle ground that father (or Nixon for that matter) did so many years ago.
Look, I’m upset as much as you that Gore lost, but it doesn’t mean that I’m getting my photo id ready for my passport yet.
they’re called hate crimes milo… the assault of a person based soley on his/her orientation is a hate crimes, just as attacking a black man because of his sking color is ahte crime. Most republican politicians refuse to add sexual orientation to the list of hate crimes. adding it to the list would make the beating of a gay person, Matthew Shepard for example, punishable by a much harsher and longer prison term, thus keeping hate mongers out of the gene pool.
From FoxNews.com:
i care…why?
are you going to answer any of the other questions i asked you? Specifically, the one about the view republicans hold about democrats, and the one about making broad and sweeping generalizations, which is usually an indication of the “don’t confuse me with facts, my mind’s made up” syndrome.
Fox News just reported that the Florida Bureau of Elections is saying 100 percent of the vote is in, and Bush won the state by a little more than 1,200 votes.
Out of about 6 million votes cast!
By Florida law, there will be an automatic re-count.
Palmyra - What other points do you want addressed?
Republicans don’t think Democrats are human beings? Bull. They just think you’re misguided human beings, who trust federal bureaucracy a bit too much. And who like to divide the country along racial/financial lines a bit too much.
Don’t make generalizations? About what? I posted a link from one of the news sources reporting on it, with regard to the election shenanigans in the St. Louis area.
P.S. We oppose hate crimes too. But in our editorial zeal for brevity, we just call them “crimes,” and enforce and punish them along with all the other crimes.
We get a little queasy when law enforcement agencies look into the hearts and minds of people and want to know what they think and feel before deciding what to charge them with and how severely.
read the posts above this one… you’ll find my points…
um… you started it by posting an inflamatory thread in the WRONG FORUM… and egged it on by continuing to post…
and it’s only THREE am here… i got plenty of steam left.
oh, btw way… i mentioned in one of my posts in THIS thread, that i didn’t vote for gore. the conclusion to be deduced from that comment is that i am NOT a democrat.
why? people who have a deep rooted hatred of some group are more likely to commit a hate crime again once released than the average assailant, who is usually looking for money or drugs, or something of value.
so… morals [hearts and minds] shouldn’t be a factor in punishing crime…? then what the fuck makes a person commit a crime if NOT his/her personal morals and beliefs???
You might be speaking too soon here, Milo.
It looks like Florida may be decided by mail in votes, that can be counted as long as they are postmarked by Nov. 7.
But I am now hopeing that the Florida recount goes to Gore. It is the only way to avoid what is likely to be at least a minor constitutional crisis.
If Bush wins but Gore gets the popular vote there is going to be a lot demand that the electoral college be abolished, and that, in my opinion, is MUCH worse than the prospect of a Gore presidency.
One idiot on NBC suggested that if this happens Bush should concede. Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean that Gore would be president. Regardless of what Bush may SAY, the electoral vote will make him president. If he were to withdraw at that point he would have to convince electors to change their vote to Gore. If that didn’t work, I could only assume that Bush would be required to assume the office of the presidency or the House and Senate would choose a president and vice president.
So, just to avoid the chance of an empassioned populace making drastic changes to the constitution I really hope the Florida recount goes to Gore and that Bush has the dignity (I think he does) not to contest it.
Yes, I am actually wide awake at 3:30am because I can’t sleep thinking about the scary possibilities if we don’t produce and uncontestable winner.
I’m afraid I don’t understand how this works. Do the prople in the West say “Hey, Gore won Florida. I better get out and case even more votes for Gore.”
Personally I think it was bad journalism in projecting the outcome of a key state in an extremely close race. But I guess a conspiracy involving the liberal media sounds more realistic to you.
I also agree with Palmyra. It seems from your title and OP that you were either trying to stir up a fight or vent about something. Either way, The Pit would have been a better choice.
What if I assaulted a black man, just because I’m an asshole? Is that a hate crime or just a normal bad crime? How would you know? If I beat up a black gay woman, is it worse than beating up a straight white Republican, like, say, Milossarian?
While I absolutely support equal rights and protection under the law for everyone, I’ve always been reluctant to support of hate crimes bills that target specific groups of people. I think that in the long run hate crimes laws do a disservice to the people they are supposed to protect - instead of working to change inconsistencies in the ways the current laws against crimes are applied, they canonize certain groups of people as forever separate. I think that’s a shame.
The ONE short-term benefit I see from hate crimes laws is that it makes it possible for the Feds to investigate where local authorities may fear to tread - you know, the towns where the sheriff is also the head of the KKK.
