Oh, blow it out your ass with that “liberal media” bullshit. Like, if I was rich enough to own a newspaper, I would be a Democrat, huh? “Liberal media” is a concept created by crybaby right-wingers who get all incensed when their right to shove their ideology down everyone’s throats is questioned. Just look at how the “liberal media” treats the left-wing in this country…and then look at how they acted as cheerleaders for Ronald Wilson Reagan.
No, I can’t say that I’m particularly smarter than you. I’m a white heterosexual male with a wife and a house and two kids and a degree from a fancy college and a well-paid profession. And I vote for fucking DEMOCRATS? I’m either stupid, or crazy.
Milo, I won’t play your game by telling you how stupid I think you are. I will let you draw your own conclusions from the company you keep.
Mr Bush has demonstrated repeatedly how stupid he is, from “sublimable” to refusing to commute the death sentence of a man whose guilt was obviously in doubt. One of his biggest local supporters, a DJ named “Mancow,” who is Chicago’s arbiter of good taste and open-minded discussion of the issues :rolleyes, has concluded, based on the coloring of the maps on the television election reports, that Mr Bush has the support of “99% of the country.” Unless one assumes the landmass of the United States voted yesterday that is a preposterously stupid statement. And I cannot help but assume that the land would have voted for someone other than Bush, given the franchise, but that is neither here nor there.
Finally, if one considers that Mr Bush has less than fifty-percent of the vote and that a full fifty-percent of the population is at or below the average intelligence, I think we can see from where his support has come. And that you have plenty of company.
** Milo** seems to me the biggest crybaby around last night was “our” guv, ** Engler**. Months ago, he crowed to the world that he was promising the State of MI for Bush. Of course, when the primaries came and Bush lost even the primary, he cried “foul” saying that those nasty Dems conspired to do his guy in.
Then, last night, as it was clear that the State of MI had gone for Gore, he abruptly changed his plans to do a face to face interview with the cameras, and instead gave a speech praising Mike Rogers (running for House of Reps seat vacated by Stabenaw), and left the building.
So, ** Milo** why this thread and not one showing how pleased you are about the school vouchers going down (roughly 70% against)?

The major (read:liberal) media declaring Florida to Gore at a ridiculously early time and ending up very wrong;
And who exactly are the democrats that perpetuated this fraud? Peter Jennings, Tom Brokaw Dan Rather? And did they all work in concert to bring off this fraud? If so you got any links we could read? And how do you know that these folks and the rest of their hundreds of staff members are in fact democrats?
Wouldn’t a better explanation be that the networks are all over zealous and inacurrate at times?
Moderator’s Notes: I wanna step in here and ask everybody to cool off a bit; this is MPSIMS. M’kay? If ya really gotta get mad at someone or something, we have a place for that and you all know how to find it. Thanks.
I’m not going to whine, seeing as I do not personally have a vote for Dubya on my conscience.
I will say this, however. Re: The OP’s claim that the “liberal media” were somehow perpetrating “election fraud” by trying to call Florida, give us a break. Think back to the Nixon years. The kind of things that CREEP pulled in '72 were election fraud.
Even though my pick may not win, what is the actual percentage of campaign promises that are carried out? I still have Senators and Congressmen that I can go through even if Bush wins.
I don’t think anyone falls into the category stupid no matter who they support. And you won’t hear me whine. I’m surprised at you Milo, this isn’t your usual form of posting.
Please move this to the Pit or GD. It’s this kind of useless political bickering that keeps me from ever going to GD in the first place–so get it out of MPSIMS. (And I just saw your warning, UncleBeer, so thank you!)
FWIW, I’m an Independent. Both parties are equally screwed, and I have never understood the indignation rabid Republicans and Democrats have when it is suggested that their party or their candidate is somehow flawed when Their Party Is The True American Party. Nor have I understood the attitude that the Other Party is inherently evil and just Bad, Bad, Bad. Milo, your gloating is ugly, and some of the Democrats have taken your bait and acting just as ugly. Go away.
I for one want third parties. And fourth. And more. We need more choice than the losers that we were stuck with this time around.
Hey Milo - I just wanted to add my 2 bits as a Missouri resident. First off, as a student and an education major, why shouldn’t I vote for Gore? American schools are in pretty sad shape right now, and I’ll gladly pay more taxes if it means that I’ll have a working environment 4 years down the road that will help me stay sane and that will help me help others. Secondly, that whole bit about “tough love” on the polls - wtf?? The state election officials admitted that they didn’t put out enough balloting machines, so it wasn’t like it was the personal fault of anyone who tried to vote. And in St. Louis, there are a lot of people who can’t make regular polling hours for one reason or another. Hence the poll start times at 6 AM and the original close at 7 PM. Mmmkay? No Democratic conspiracy, just people standing there for quite possibly the highest election turnout in years and wanting to try to make a difference for whatever candidate.
And thirdly, as a woman… well, I’m not going to even go there. My apologies if this is more suited to the Pit than MPSIMS.
Hey Milo? You wanna comment on that vote fraud in FLORIDA? Where seniors thought they were voting for Gore, but voted for Buchanan?
And Bush won Missouri. So why are you complaining?
I’m not gonna whine. Whoever wins this has so little of a mandate that the next 4 years will be as status quo as possible. Just saw your post as I was replying, Ruffian…I agree with you. Which is why I voted for Nader. I was hoping that he’d get 5% more than anything. I cared about THAT more than who won, honestly.
I agree this should get moved to the Pit. And ultress? Well said. applauds
As opposed to Bill Clinton, who is responsible for the insidious “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy, and who gladly and with an open heart signed the Defense of Marriage Act. And do you really think Al Gore and Joe Lieberman would be any different? Neither of them supports gay marriages in any way, shape or form. Nor are they in any hurry to eliminate state anti-sodomy laws.
While individual Democrats and Republicans may indeed be gay-friendly, please don’t labor under the delusion that the Democratict Party platform, or its candidates, are your friends.
Uke: While I agree that the “liberal media” is more than a little exaggerated, I think it’s a bit disingenuous to say, “Like, if I was rich enough to own a newspaper, I would be a Democrat, huh?” I know the Washington Post endorsed Gore for President, as did the Boston Globe, Baltimore Sun, *Miami Herald, Philadelphia Inquirer, San Francisco Chronicle, * and New York Times. Not exactly small, uninfluential papers.
Way to switch horses midstream. You didn’t say " . . . I would be a liberal, huh?" You said, " . . . I would be a Democrat, huh?" I presented a series of large metropolitan newspapers who endorsed the Democratic candidate for President. Apparently, some guys who are rich enough to own newspapers are in fact Democrats, or at least want them to be President.
If you’d like to argue now that Gore isn’t a Democrat, be my guest. I don’t think you’ll be terribly effective, but go for it. I also need you to decide if you’re arguing that rich guys who own newspapers aren’t liberals, or that they aren’t Democrats. I already said I don’t think the media are terribly liberal.
So, to recap:
You: Oh, like rich newspaper owners are Democrats. Me: Here are a bunch of newspapers who endorsed the Democrat for President, so some of them must be. You: You think Al Gore is a liberal? Me: Huh?
For those who are interested a complete list of newspaper endorsements can be read here.
This thread was a little more inflammatory than I initially intended it to be.
But I and other mental defectives who think like me are continually bemused at people who profess that women and children are going to be eaten in the polluted streets *because a Republican won instead of a Democrat. *
Falcon - Dead-Guy Carnahan won a key Senate seat for the Democrats by 2 percentage points. That’s why I care. And I wonder if any polling problems occurred in the Republican-leaning suburbs? That judge didn’t seem to care as much about those, however.
Anyone who doesn’t believe the major, national media is left-of-center … well, in my newly diplomatic spirit of this morning, I’ll just say that I strongly disagree with you.
I saw networks all night last night holding off on calling states like Ohio and Arizona that they could have given to Bush much more quickly than they did. They seemed to be much quicker on the draw for Gore.
Did they do it (and call Florida very early for Gore) so Gore would appear to have momentum and have things close to wrapped up, making late West-Coast Bush voters feel like they would be wasting their time to go vote? I don’t know. I just find it interesting …
I am not seeing anything in the day’s news today that leads me to believe that Bush won’t ultimately be declared the winner in Florida and thus gain the presidency, BTW.
**Moderator’s Notes:**I agree. As such, I’m closing it. I ain’t moving to either the Pit or GD. There’s too much heat for GD and too much debate for the Pit. Plus, I’m having trouble even posting; it’d probably take me ten minutes to move this sucker. I haven’t been to either of those forums too much yet today, but I suspect there’s plenty of threads that are more appropriate to the views expressed here. Have at 'em. Thank you.
