Okay, I think this song was recorded during the late 60s/early 70s by an English group, but I’m not sure. The song didn’t have any lyrics, just a male voice singing, “Monominap” followed by a female voice singing, “Do do di do.” The muppets did a cover of it on The Muppet Show one time. Anybody know the name of the song and who recorded it?
Believe it or not, this was originally a sound track for an Italian porno movie. The composer was Piero Umiliani and the film was the 1969 “Sweden Heaven and Hell” (at least that’s the translation of the Italian title.)
Haven’t found the performers for the original recording yet, but will report back soon.
From this site it seems the original singers were Edda Dell’Orso and Alessandro Alessandroni.
Ok, according to iMDB, it was originally titled Svezia, inferno e paradiso and came out in 1968. As far as I have been able to determine, the voice on the soundtrack is that of Mr. Umiliani himself. (Alessandro Allesandroni did record a later version of it.)
If you search for more info, be aware that the title has been variously spelled: Mahna Mahna, Mah-na Mah-na, and various different hyphenizations (and with varying diacritical marks) of the above.
The soundtrack is available on Easy Tempo CD 901 at this site.
“Mahna Mahna?” I thought it was “Phenomenon.” I guess I was wrong. So very wrong.
Does the guy sound like Leslie Nielson or is it just me?
No, no, no. according to Brahe’s first link, it’s a “soft core documentary”.
Thanks for raising the question, Tuckerfan, I never would have imagined.
Yeah, can you imagine the looks on people’s faces if they’d have known the song from The Muppet Show that junior was singing, came from anything with “soft core” in the description!
Well the first place I heard the People’s Court theme song was in a porno movie (that is, if I watched those things). It took me a while to get that image of Judge Wapner, Rusty, and Doug having a 3-way out of my head.
The name of that movie wouldn’t happen to have been Never So Deep would it? Because that movie happens to have The People’s Court theme in it. (And I have to say, realizing that the film was using The People’s Court theme was the high point of the film.)
Actually it was The Saisfiers of Alpha Blue, a sci-fi/porn classic. The theme was used during the mandatory orgy scene at the end.
Back in my university days, I always had a song in my heart, even in philosophy class.
When studying Phenomenology, I’d sing to myself “Phenomena, boo doo bo-dupee”
My theme song for Existensialism was “Let’s get … metaphysical, metaphysical”.
