Doot doo doot do-doot
That goes through my head every time I hear that name in the news.
One of the afternoon drive guys on q101 in Chicago used to play a great mashup of this song… Here is (from my memory) a slightly less effective version:
Still can’t hear Jet and not think of the Muppets.
What name?
Here in Australia we have a TV advertisement for sunscreen that uses the tune of ‘Mahna Mahna’ and so now I almost completely associate the song with the singing baby they use in the ad.
This one.
The thing that always blows my mind is how that song became an staple of Sesame Street and the Muppets when it originally came from a soft core porn movie, Sweden: Heaven and Hell (1968).
The one by Cakeis my favorite.
Not all that surprising. Henson and Oz, and for that matter their wives and most of the crew, had a very trippy background. Put it this way: During the first season of SNL, Henson and Oz contributed some Muppet sketches. Only they weren’t the CTV Muppets; more like Fraggle Rock, but more adult even than that. I’ve never seen them, but I think if they were deemed too far out for early SNL, they must have been pretty far out.
So yeah, it’s not that much of a leap. Jim and Jane could have watched that porn together.
Haven’t run into her for a while; I wonder how she’s doing…
Here’s a video of one of them, Scred, singing with Lily Tomlin.
The Land of Gorch. I really loved those segments, and was sorry they didn’t continue them.
They weren’t really ‘too far out’…the SNL writers just hated writing for them. (WHY the SNL staff were writing Muppet sketches instead of leaving that to Henson’s crew, I don’t know.)
“What’s the ideal rhythm?”
“The Noumenon!”
(Now you Kant get it out of your head, either!)
Are you serious? :p:p:p:p
omg, I have to pass that one on.
This is the tune that I regularly get into every roommate’s head as often as I can, to the point that years later I can send ‘mahna mahna’ as a simple text and get a ‘ARRRGH FUCK YOU!!!’ back in return. It’s awesome.
When I was a kid I heard the lyric as ‘phenomenon’.
And now that’s how I am going to hear it, too!
Aargh!!
ETA: Tengu, I see. Still, they were on SNL. And I agree: why not let H&O create the sketches?
