I’m unsure why you felt the need, in response to my stating that the SDMB is not an appropriate place to solicit opinions on good things to steal, to launch your little attack. The thread was not “what’s your favorite MST3K episode?” The thread was “Which MST3K episode should I download next?” If it’s true (as was eventually noted in the thread) that the underlying film is in the public domain (and all you did was list three movies without backing that up and forgive me if I don’t take your word for it) and if the holders of the copyright of the MST3K episode have given their permission, then not only couldn’t I care less if someone downloads it but hey, pass me the link. Since that was not and is not readily apparent then asking what files to download next is no different than asking what book to steal from the bookstore next.
But whatever the reason, you’re being an asshole. You’re acting like a pathetic creep and I’m really sad that your nature seems to lead you to launch unmotivated attacks like that. And, I don’t understand why you feel the need to pursue the attack in the wrong forum, nor do I understand where you get off calling me a hypocrite (you might want to look that word up) or accusing me of acting “jerkish” when you’re the fucknut who started and sustained the personal attacks in a Cafe Society thread across multiple posts.
You run a website that includes copyrighted material which IIRC you told me you had to negotiate for and be careful with because of fears of infringement. For you of all people to call someone a hypocrite for saying that copyright ought to be respected is completely laughable.
I think I know why you’re harboring ill will toward me and if it’s why I think it is, sorry to have hurt your feelings but get over it.
Too bad your time away from the boards didn’t seem to mellow you out any. I remember when I used to hope you’d participate in a thread.
One good example is the fact that Rhino lost the rights to Amazing Colossal Man and had to stop production and shipping of the MST3K version. That should be proof enough that BB (unfortunately) doesn’t have the authority to absolve copyright infringement. I’ve been lucky and have the complete Rhino (VHS) collection and some of the tapes released by Best Brains (and really, what MST3K collection would be complete without “Mr B. Natural”?!) I am 3 episodes from having the complete collection by trading with friends (not counting the missing first episodes from TV23’s era that no one seems to have). Unfortunately, the quality isn’t as good as the officially released episodes. Rhino and BB have no plans to release any new ones on VHS (but they will be releasing “Santa Claus Vs The Martians” on DVD).
I definitely see how Mockingbird’s poorly worded request on which eps to download shouldn’t be on the board, but maybe this should have been reported to the mods instead and let them decide. (Especially since the official website does have trading )
stpauler: I’m not the op asking for which episodes to watch and or download. Much like our bitchy OP, you need to read for content before you hit your buzzer.
Otto: You came in finger pointing, shooting your fucking mouth off, and telling us what the status was. The junior modding aside, who the fuck gave you the place to be righteously indignant and telling others when they are breaking the law when by sheltering your boyfriend sans green card, you are already committing a criminal act.
You are such a massive hypocrite, and to watch you throw your hissy fit and then CONTINUE once information was provided was nauseating.
(Oh, and there will be more Rhino DVDs released of MST3K. And until there are commercial copies from Rhino released, the standard policy from Best Brains is still to circulate the tapes.)
Mea culpa…I did mean to put Silentgoldfish’s name in there and not yours. :smack:
The problem with the original thread was that Silentgoldfish was looking for which one to download next. Due to the information given here that states:
It doesn’t deliberately state whether or not what Silentgoldfish is doing is for/against the rules and I’m not gonna say either. Leave that to the mods.
Of course, you go on to say…
…and I’m not sure about your knowledge there, but Mitchell has been released on both Rhino DVD and VHS. And The Brain that Wouldn’t Die is out on VHS at least.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m all for circulating the tapes and keeping the great show alive as long as possible even if I’ve watched all the episode too many times to count. BUT I also want to make sure that my favorite message board is around a long time and doesn’t get in trouble for any perceived endorsement of copyright violations too.
I’m saying “ditto” to NoClueBoy’s post, and adding that my own reaction to Otto’s original post was to say to myself “Why the bleep doesn’t he just e-mail a Mod and let them check to see if this is kosher?”
Really, let the Mods’ do their jobs, don’t try to enforce the rules if you don’t have a hat. It just leads to the type of hijack that ruins a good thread.
Well, first off, Oscar and I broke up quite some time ago. And secondly, is that your basis for calling me a hypocrite? That I didn’t turn the man I loved over to the INS? You’re more fucked up than I thought you were.
It was a one-sentence suggestion. No rational person could IMHO take a one-sentence suggestion to be a “hissy fit.” It was free of insults and curiously lacking in the “finger-pointing” you’ve accused me of. You, on the other hand, kicked off your reply to me with a personal insult, and continued with the insults. Even after I modified my original stance in that thread you still felt the need to tack on one more simpering little insult.
Sorry if you or anyone else took my initial post as anything other than a suggestion. It wasn’t meant as a hijack, any more than suggesting that any other (IMHO) bad idea is a bad idea. But I really don’t get the blind rage all-guns-blazing attitude you came back with.
And, as I said in the original thread and repeated here, if the people who actually own the copyrights are cool with the downloading and the underlying movies are public domain then not only am I all in favor of the downloading but I’d like to get in on it (although there is IMHO a qualitative difference between “keep circulating the tapes” and “make the material instantly available to millions of people all over the world at the same time” but that’s really neither here nor there for purposes of this discussion). You perhaps missed Smeghead’s post in that thread in which it was pointed out that while I may have been partially wrong in my understanding of the copyright issue, so were you.
But hey, if it makes you feel better thinking I’m some kind of Hypocrite-Beast because I didn’t rat out my lover to the Feds, go at it. Really, it makes very little difference in the long run (but I’m sure if you continue to splutter about it here it’ll make for an amusing little read).
