the thread in question was heavily derailed over a “tldr” post, where it was temporarily believed that the “tldr” poster was only warned for using an acronym as the sole meat of his post. SoaP’s (sorry for not bolding you earlier, buddy - I’ve been awol) post says the same thing as a “tldr” without actually using an acronym.
admittedly, it wasn’t fall down or roll on the floor hilarious, but if someone is pitted over a misunderstanding it should be expected that they’ll get called on it, imo.
…but he did care enough to post, which probably took more time than it would to just read the damned thing or go outside and get a breath of fresh air or surf to some other site where he can find something he is interested in.

That’s purely a matter of opinion. I’ll fully agree that Snakes On a Plane was intentionally being a jerk, but my opinion of Sampiro’s posts are the complete opposite of yours. Without going into why (I have nothing against Sampiro and have no reason to bring him down), I just don’t like his lengthy, family-based posts. That’s just my opinion and my choice. Disliking Sampiro’s posts does not make me ignorant, but thanks.

And, I suspect, a great deal of other subjects. Point is, I read jali’s post as specific to the poster being pitted, and not about everyone who, for whatever reason, does not like Sampiro’s posts.
Sure but those threads are not in the pit. I like Sampiro’s family sagas, maybe that makes me a dumb ass I don’t know, but the guy can write well and he tells a good story IMO. BUT I think that IN THE PIT it is completely valid to point out that you think someone is boreing or that they do not have a point or that you think they were overly verbose.
In Sampiro’s case I disagree but I think if he puts them IN THE PIT he must expect some random assholes. AND the random assholes should expect to be called on their shit.

I’ve always wondered how I’m supposed to know I’m not interested in a thread until I’ve read it. Some are easy. I can almost guarantee I won’t be interested in a thread with “baseball” in the title (then again, maybe I’ve missed some gems, who knows?). Other threads aren’t so easy to tell.
Same for TV/movies/radio. I may know Howard Stern by reputation and not turn on his show. But how do I know if Arrested Development will offend me unless I watch it at least once?
I think posting specifically to say you’re not interested is dumb though. Once you figure out a thread isn’t for you, just close it! But that ties in with my (apparently unpopular) opinion that even in the Pit, one doesn’t NEED to be a jerk just 'cause it’s allowed.

Of course, more often than not, once that happens the thread doesn’t get back on track, but hey! Common courtesy is vastly overrated when it comes to speaking your opinion on how much other people’s interests suck. Personally, I could live without ever seeing another thread with the words “World of Warcraft” in the title, but for those people who do enjoy them, rock on.
