Who are these guys? I know they’re not the Redskins, because the Redskins make these sorts of mistakes in droves, year in and year out, no matter who’s coaching.
Nonono, RT, you missed the biggest part. See, it wasn’t enough that they didn’t do stupid stuff. Hell, remember that Dallas game a year or two back where they played really well but things just didn’t go their way?
Nah, man. This time they WON. Furthermore, their defense played well. True, it was against Tampa Bay, a team not entirely known for the explosiveness of their offense, but that defense allowed three points. Next week they go to the Giants, a team that lost by 14 (4th quarter touchdown included in that, and I don’t know if the Eagles’ 1st string was on the field for it) to Philadelphia.
This NFC East is gonna be something. If Portis stays healthy, Brunell doesn’t do anything stupid and Ramset pays attention (and, y’know, the O line and D line don’t take vacations), this could be an 11-5 year. Truth be told, I’d settle for 8-8 with a win at home against the Cowboys.
That was a very well played (by the Redskins) game yesterday. Gibbs has definitely done a good job, and I was really surprised at all of the good coaching help he was able to bring in. Williams’ squad was impressive and Bugle did a great job, too. Frankly, I’d forgotten that they traded for Portis, whom I’ve always liked, and would have expected to lose had I remembered. Bowen was a force on the defense and Arrington was his usual crazy self. Plus that crowd was loud!
Now, what will be interesting is if this is a strong Redskins team or a weak Bucs team. The Bucs offense has an almost entirely new offensive line, receiver corps and a couple of old, banged up guys at RB. Even with that they still could have feasibly won the game if a) Joey Galloway doesn’t drop that TD pass or b) Ian Gold holds the interception that Brunell threw to him (instead the Skins kicked a FG to go up 13-10).
Net, wait until you play at least one more game to get your hopes too high. Still, good game, class act of a coach. Did any of you all think that Gruden was dodging shaking Gibbs hand at the end of the game? That’s what it looked like from here. Even though he’s not one a Super Bowl Tony Dungy has more class in his pinky than Gruden has in his whole body.
