Hi everyone. New poster, long time reader/lurker. I’ve greatly enjoyed many years of watching the debate, commentary and general antics on the board. I have finally decided that I ought to join and post some of the questions which occur to me from time to time that only the SDMB is likely to answer. Or Cecil if He had the time.
Although I’m new I feel as if I know a lot of you from reading your posts. My time as a reader has certainly helped me learn a lot, change or sharpen my views in many areas and given me hours of enjoyment and education. I hope I can now give a little back.
Please be gentle with a newbie. (By the way, I kinda like goats but squid not so much)

Thanks for the welcome. No real choices on ice cream but hope it goes well with this rhubarb pie. Its in a foot long rectangular pan because I couldn’t find any shorter rhubarb.

That right there is an excellent example of why I love the Dope. I make a facetious reference to rhubarb pie and someone comes along and notes that it is pi day.
Johanna - You got me. I confess. I do indeed like chicken. There is a long boring extremely mundane and pointless story as to why it is my user name. I’ll keep it to myself for now. The alternative was Abu Kaffir, a family in joke but one I eschewed as I didn’t wish to cause inadvertent offense.
May I ask how fluent you are and from which region?
Helenna330 - As Johanna has apply demonstrated, a basic knowledge of Arabic will reveal that…I like chicken. That’s the meaning. Given that my diet for many years now has been mostly chicken and rice varied with rice and chicken, this is a good thing.

I was part of a trivia contest team yesterday and one of the questions was guessing the number of calories in each officially identical apple pie they brought out. I so wanted to guess 3142! We didn’t as that would have been too high (but we still overestimated). Still it felt right.
