Rudy Giuliani has gone on and on about Hillary’s health. Today, she leaves a 9/11 event feeling ill. We’ll never hear the end of this and of course, Trump will point out that she’s medically unfit to be POTUS. Needless to say, this will echo from now to November.
That won’t be it. The tighty righty internet is all abuzz about her VP choice, and the emerging scandal about Kaine and his brother. The liberal media has been smothering it but its just about to break!
And then of course there is the fact that even if Clinton was vegetative in a coma, she’d still beat Trump. In fact you could make an argument that Kaine would beat Trump by a higher margin than Clinton since he has lower unfavorables than Clinton.
In about four hours, the ERs will be swamped with right-wingers whose erections won’t subside, but other than that, no damage. She’ll come across as vigorous and robust in the debates and that will be the end of it.
I don’t think this, in and of itself, is a deal-breaker. But the extreme right wing in this country is employing a strategy of chipping away at her, one small bit at a time. They’re using the same strategy that Vladimir Putin employs: use misinformation to your advantage. Just keep putting information out there. Fill the news cycle with lots of noise but create certain hashtags or markers so that certain bits of noise can be distinguished and turned into speculation or a narrative. Create a frame, create a headline, and then use bits and pieces of information to start filling out the picture within the borders. Propagandists are artists. Bullshit is their pastel and the frail human mind is their canvass.
Hillary has one chance to put this behind her. She has to release her medical records and allow her doctors to speak.
It is an extraordinary step. But she’s fostered this issue for too long. Remember her absence from public functions for over a year after her concussion? The long delay in announcing her run for President? Now all these coughing fits and that photo of her being helped up the stairs.
The US Presidency has become the most stressful and physically demanding job in the world. Look at how it aged Bush and Obama.
The public has to be reassured Hillary cab fulfill the duties of the office. Or it will be disastrous on election day.
I believe she’s been far more forthcoming about her health than her opponent, no?
And besides, Mitt Romney withdrew from an event in 2012 due to ‘exhaustion’ and nobody seemed to mind it much. So this really shouldn’t be an issue – except that the propaganda machine has made it one.
Bullshit. It’s a complete non issue, she’s released far more medical information than Trump’s laughable “healthiest candidate ever”. So when is Trump going to release his Tax Returns? or a proper doctors health assessment that’t not a complete joke. Oh, and what about all the events that Trump cancelled in the last month? I hear he’s not well enough to keep the campaign pace up, never mind leaving early, he couldn’t even turn up in the first place !
The problem is the extreme right is only convincing each other. They’ll all swear they’re not going to vote for Clinton and be happy because obviously if nobody votes for Clinton she’ll lose in a record defeat. And then they’ll be shocked on Election Day when she wins and the extreme right is once again reminded that they’re not the entire country.
If conservatives want to start winning presidential elections, they need to step out of their comfort zone. They need to start talking with (and that’s with, not at or to) people who aren’t conservatives and find out what issues they care about.
I’m not convinced that this is the case at all. They will convince at least some of the fence riders on this one, either to vote for Trump or at minimum, not vote for Hillary.
The entire “Hilary’s health” thing is a complete joke that only Trump supporters care about. Because it’s not that she is the entire Democratic party and that the government collapses into chaos if she does get sick. If you actually agree with her policies then you’ll vote for her even if she is at deaths door, because you can be pretty sure her party will continue those policies.
So the fact that Trump’s campaign keeps trying to make this about her personal health is actually their projection of their own fears. If Trump gets sick and can’t do his job, then yes actually it’s likely the rest of the republican party would not follow his policies, since he is much more of a cult of personality.
It’s yet another transparent Rovian “attack your opponent where you are weakest” strategy, and it doesn’t actually convince anyone except your own frothing base. BTW, I hear Trump used to be addicted to prescription amphetamines, has gained 35 pounds since the campaign started and his rambling run on sentences, word salad and inability to remember what he has previously said are symptoms of early onset Azlhemeirs (which his father had). I’d certainly take that into account if I was considering voting for Trump.
Well, the talking point about her health has ben going on for months. Don’t see much of a change in the result that is more likely to come (a Clinton victory) and I will have to point out that this angle just shows to me how even the right wing media does know how inefective and/or imaginary the other talking points have been as they have not put the contest away for Trump.
ABC just came up with a live poll of registered and likely voters. Clinton is up by 5 among likely voters and 10 points among registered ones.
Depressing. I supported Hillary in '08, but Dems turned on her and decided Obama was the Messiah. She had tons of energy back then, as evidenced by her time as Sec of State. Now it might be too late.
I’d vote for her over Trump if she had to serve from a hospital bed, but I’m not sure enough other people will.
Let’s hope this was nothing but a bit of dizziness and she can rally.
