Again, you’re seeing this as an educated straight doper. Much of the country just isn’t that informed about voting and what they really ought to be voting for. You’re seriously going to trust the undecideds to deliberate and analyze candidates on matters of sound policy? Really? On what basis? What makes you think that at least some of the people who are seriously undecided at this point aren’t going to view something like this negatively against Clinton and as lending credence to claims that she is, in fact, physically and mentally unfit for office.
Uh, no. I don’t even know where you get this idea from. It’s not at all about Trump; it’s 100 percent anti-Hillary. They want to tear her to pieces. I wouldn’t be surprised if they attempt to revive the investigation and file criminal charges against her if he were to become president. I could be wrong on this one but I have very, very low expectations that there will be any of the customary graces from this candidate and his allies, either in defeat or in victory. We’re entering uncharted waters here, I’m afraid.
Yep, there is that, the problem with that “big lie” as the extreme right is babbling about is that her “health issues” would had obviously continued in her latest town hall and interviews. After that item is pointed out the ones pushing this idea are then going for even more  reasonings.
Unless she faints during one of the debates, or something like that, this is going to be just another blip on the radar. I actually thought this thread, based on the title, was going to be about her dis’ing Trump supporters. I don’t think that will cost her the election either, but I think it’s a bigger deal, since it feeds into the whole issue of her being disconnected with a lot of America.
By themselves, I agree, they’re just stuff that happens on the campaign trail. But as things typically go, voters try to resolve these ‘blips’ within the frames that campaigns try to construct for them. This bits and bytes get marked and catalogued.
Well then why has Trump not released sensible health records? Sorry I think you’re missing something here. Trump and his surrogates are so relentlessly attacking Clinton on her health exactly because they know it’s a big weakness on his part. His health and mental stability have both declined from last October to now, he could mostly speak in coherent sentences then, but now?, just look at his performance at the Veteran’s town hall. It’s an obvious decline in cognitive ability. World salad.
People are deluding themselves if they think this doesn’t hurt Hillary. Her health has now become a legitimate issue. I think she will be OK if she doesn’t have a public “episode” for the rest of the campaign but if she does especially at a high profile event like a debate she may be in serious trouble.
I have to say that from this video (scroll down), she looked on the verge of collapse, and in fact it looks as though she would have fallen if they hadn’t grabbed her. If it was sunny and warm, she could have suffered a bit of heat exhaustion, and many medications advise to stay out of prolonged sunlight (I take one).
Her legs were buckling before taking a step. She was being held up and supported. Otherwise she would have gone to the ground. Was that Chelsea helping her? Whoever it was struggled to support Hillary. Hillary was in real distress.
This is not true. Sure, for those with a brain it works fine. But this is America, brains are in short supply. If the Trump campaign constantly pings at her health issues, with campaign ads of her coughing, stumbling, etc., this will resonate. Rudy Giuliani has already become the spokesperson for the Hillary’s health is failing issue in the campaign. She can ace the debates, but the average voter will be busy watching Simpson reruns instead of those events. This hurts. Wait for the “See we told you” from them.
But that’s pretty circular taken literally. The whole question is whether ‘Trump supporters’, in the practical political sense of people who end up voting for Trump, in many cases because they think both major candidates are terrible but he’s less terrible, turn out more numerous than ‘Clinton supporters’ by the same definition.
If you mean OTOH to say it only matters to Trump’s core (actually pro-Trump) supporters, I don’t see how you can know that.
The great bulk of the electorate does not fool around on right (or left) wing websites or listen to political talk radio which are basically the places where this issue has been played on up to now, except for brief mention of it as a ‘groundless’ issue in mainstream media (including Fox News, which has not mainly played Clinton’s health as a real story either, and its audience measured as % of the general electorate is small anyway). That big part of the electorate get their news still from broadcast, newspapers, the same type outlet’s websites, or moreover what people they know are talking about. If the Clinton health story gets ‘mainstreamed’ into ‘MSM’ and real world (not just internet) buzz, because of a real incident like this related to her health, it could definitely damage Clinton in what’s already become a fairly close race.
She’s a 70-year-old woman who’s been on a grueling schedule for months.
The day she “stumbles” like this and then is incommunicado for several days, I’ll have about the same worries I do about any candidate of the advanced ages most presidential candidates seem to be these days.
Just under 70 million people watched the debates last time. They’re a pretty big deal. This whole “disengaged voters” idea is well past its sell-by date.
It’s not a weakness if he conceals it successfully, just as his phony business record isn’t an issue if he can conceal his tax returns. Trump has taken lying to unprecedented levels in his campaign, and he’s been damn successful at it. There is no reason to believe he can’t win with more lying.
Yeah, I mean can you believe it when he follows up with “she almost falls but is caught by someone”? The part where they cleverly hide the video by putting it on their front page is particularly insidious.
Having the capacity to make a rational decision and actually make rational decisions are two different things. You can easily trick intelligent people – highly intelligent people – into buying something or voting for someone based on bad information. You can create perceptions that distort reality for essentially anyone. Extremely smart people fall for scams all the time when their instincts should know better.
But did they put out a special report about her having stroke in broad daylight, and receiving emergency medical support right there on the curb while drooling and babbling “bengahzi bengahzi bengahzi”? Hmmm? Damn complicit media!
We’ve had spouses fill in as shadow Presidents before. Wilson and Eisenhower both had health crises. Their wives quietly stepped in.
Bill Clinton is Constitutionally restricted from serving again. What happens if Hillary has a heart attack like Eisenhower? He never left office. Will this trigger a Constitutional crises if rumors start that Bill is calling the shots like Mamie Eisenhower? Mamie’s role has never been fully researched. Historians don’t know what she did or what decisions she made.
Wilson had a stroke. He really should have stepped down from office. But that didn’t happen.
