His4Ever, why are you telling lies about your Deity?

reprise: I believe that you got listed as the OP of this thread due to the board software “eating” my first posting in it.

H4E: This comment of yours:

is one of the most laughable things you’ve ever posted on this particular board. It’s been shown to you that you’re currently going against the literal word of the Bible and that you’re doing it deliberately. Evidently, according to your own words, you’re “defiantly living a life of sin.” So, why exactly should any of us listen to a word you have to say about moral behaviour?

Vanilla knows I disagree with her interpretation of Scripture and I know she disagrees with mine; however, we remain friends because I respect the way she came to her interpretation and she respects the way I came to my interpretation. You, on the other hand, have yet to come to a single conclusion of your own. Come to think of it, you really should be getting warnings for all the stuff you post here that you DON’T attribute to the people who actually said it. I actually do get a laugh out of you quoting someone else saying they’re quoting LDS material and then you posting that you’re quoting LDS material. You know why? Because it’s yet another lie from you.

Regarding how to live your life to please Him: There’s a lovely poem which I can’t remember the title. The poem’s in a book entitled The Best-loved Poems of the American People. Here’s a quick run-down of what’s in it:
[ul][li]Bedouin or Arab chieftain’s asleep in his tent and is awakened by an extremely bright light. The light is coming from an angel, writing in a book at a desk.[/li][li]The chieftain asks the angel what he’s writing and gets the response: “The names of all those who love the Lord.”[/li][li]The chieftan then asks, “Pray tell, angel, is my name among those?”[/li][li]The angel then leafs through the entire book, shakes his head, and says, “No, it appears not.”[/li][li]The chieftain then tells the angel, “Please, then, record my name as one of those who loves his fellow man.”[/li][li]The angel closes the book and disappears.[/li][li]The following night, the chieftan is awakened by the angel who shows the chieftain his name listed as the very first one in the book of those who love the Lord.[/ul][/li]
My church has as one of its Articles of Faith:

Paul’s admonition is contained in 1 Corinthians 13:7:

Here’s the quick run-down on you: You don’t love your fellow man and, therefore, you cannot really love the Lord according to the Bible. You refuse to learn about the people you hate and consequently latch onto anything you happen to hear that is not of good report about those whom you hate. Your ignorance is stunning. Your attachment to that ignorance is amazing. You lie constantly. You search the Scriptures for justification for your hate and consequently miss the most beautiful words contained in Holy Writ. In short, you are a liar, a bigot, and a hypocrite. Don’t like that description? Tough. Very many posters here have already informed you of how to make it so that description does not apply to you. Apparently, you are either too hateful or too lazy (maybe both) to take such action.

gobear: Do you remember the All in the Family episode where Archie’s freaking out when he finds out that Gloria had an affair? Edith tells him that it’s not his business & Archie replies, “It’s God’s business.” Edith looks him dead in the eye and tells him, “Then let God tend to it.”

How much you willing to wager that H4E doesn’t get the lesson there?

I see she’s back to her standard cop-out:

And yet you keep saying it, don’t you? Here’s a hint: being deprived of your presence isn’t a punishment so threatening me with such deprivation does not scare me.

His4Ever I summarized an episode from the life of Christ when I referred to the woman at the well. You came in and directly contradicted what I said with verses from a completely different incident. When you were called on this behaviour, all you said was, “I see that I’m getting 2 incidents mixed up.” In other words, I said “The Bible says A.” and all you did was come back and say “No, it doesn’t,” apparently without even taking the trouble to see if what I said was true.

Your defensive. Fair enough; I did attack you. I attacked you because you attack people for being Catholic/Mormon/Homosexual while ignoring the sinfulness of your own life. I also attacked you because of your notion that tax collectors no longer were tax collectors and prostitutes were no longer prostitutes. Instead of countering one of the other arguments I made, you did about the worst possible thing you could do which was cite scripture erroneously. I’m no expert on scripture, and I know there are people around here who are. That’s why before I mention anything in the Bible, I make very sure it’s there and, if I’m citing chapter and verse, the chapter and verse are what I think they are. As an example, before getting into a debate on Christ’s actual birthdate, I re-read the Gospel accounts of his birth and was shocked to see that none of them mention lambs being present. :frowning: Because I was looking for chapter and verse for the two incidents which you confused, I wound up getting into the business of the woman caught in adultery not being in the earliest versions of the Bible. I thought you might question that, knowing you believe in Biblical inerrancy, so that’s why I gave the cites I did.

I would like you to say, “I was wrong to post what I did” and mean it, rather than just ducking the issue as usual. In my ideal world, I would have you think about the ramifications of those two passages and about the implications of the woman caught in adultery not being in the earliest manuscripts. Then again, in my ideal world, we also have world peace without violence, I have a wonderful job, and I’m married to a man who looks like Pierce Brosnan and thinks like a combination of a few friends of mine. Vanilla, if you’re interested, I can arrange for you to be married to his brother in this ideal world.

For now, I’ll ask that you read all of 1 Corinthians 13 and 14, though I doubt you’ll take me up on it. Still, I’ll put 1 Corinthians 13:1-13 out there for all of us for now.

Typing these words from my Bible has forced me to meditate on them and acknowledge where I fall short. Just for openers, I think I may have been quick to take offense. Those of us who claim Christ as our Saviour, and anyone else who’s interested, may I dare to ask that you think about them as well? I’m not sure if I have that right.

Monty. The poem you referenced is called Abou ben Adhem by Leigh Hunt. In reference to H4E’s (non)responses, your All in the Family quote is dead on. Actually, H4E reminds me of Diane Keaton’s standard response to people in Annie Hall: “La di da, la di da, la di da”.

Reprise, you should consider having the situation rectified, as being associated with merely the thread title casts an unfortunate light upon you. Although, in the big scheme of things it seems a small price to pay to have been spared from the OP.

Upon reflection, I think this thread should have more appropriately been titled: “Monty, why are you telling lies about His4Ever’s Deity?

Oops, did I just call Monty a liar? Oh my, I believe I did. Having been trained at the Monty School of Logic and Reason does have its consequences.

Ummm, just out of curiosity, Dr. Wen . . . who are you, and why do you have it in for Monty?

Oh, and we had so hoped this would be true. :frowning:

Esprix

andros, I was kinda wondering the same thing. I mean, of his 9 posts to date, 6 of them have been some sort of insult directed at Monty.

Weird.

At least His4ever tries to be good. No one else does. Well, no one except who she says.

Actually, that’s not quite accurate. to date, H4E has not uttered on word on the nature of virtue, or the nature of good or evil. Instead, she has merely promoted adherence to a certain set of rules prescribed in a particular text. That is not virtue, that’s merely obedience. She has never addressed her duty to love her neighbor in fufillment of what Jesus called the second greatest commandment.

Then again, asking H4E to participate in a discussion of moral philosophy is like asking someone with no legs to discuss tapdancing.

carrot: It’s only an insult if I value the source. “Dr. Wen” is evidently a source without value here.

gobear: I almost posted a reply to the same posting by Libertarian until I re-read it and realized that Lib made a very good point: His4 is a hypocrite. She has promoted adherence for everyone but her and a few select (dare I say it?) like-minded people to those rules. They get to ignore it, but the rest of us stand condemned by them. Kind of funny in that they’re the ones calling us LDS polytheists!

BTW, a man without legs can discuss the aesthetics of tapdancing. I’d liken H4E to a man without legs, sight, touch, and hearing trying to discuss something he’s never seen, felt, or heard.

Gobear

What she said was that there is a difference between trying to lead a good life but slipping up, and deliberately living a life of sin. My sarcasm was intended to illustrate the absurdity of her presumption that she is the former, and other people are the latter.

His4Ever ,
please come back into this thread and respond to some of these points, including the one I brought up in my last post on the previous page.
If someone can accept Christ and then become a Christina, doesn’t that make Catholics, Mormons, AND homosexuals christians?

I don’t know, I don’t care, and I don’t think it’s gonna be a problem any longer.

Here’s a tip for all new posters…DON’T have just one agenda to post about. This means topics and other posters.

For the Straight Dope

vanilla: You know, do doubt, that she’s just going to say, “But the Christ that the Mormons and the Catholics accept isn’t the Christ of the Bible. It’s a false Christ.” She won’t provide any proof of her assertion, but if someone else does the legwork for her, dollars to donuts she’ll claim it as her own!

To prepare myself for H4E’s eventual return to this thread, I shall go beat the other side of my head against a different wall. I try to keep everything in balance, of course.

I’ve sent you a private e mail, Vanilla.

See? Keeping things in balance appears to work. H4E returned, didn’t answer a single direct question, and has now created a lovely basis for George Carlin’s next routine. Remember his bit about “First Person Removed?” H4E is “First Person Perfect Presumptive Reflective (Removed).”

What about all the other people who have asked you questions, His? Your answer regarding the woman at the well was shown to be a bunch of ignorant jibberish. You owe them another, public, answer to their questions.
