Hiya, stranger. Tell me a little about yourself...

This is cool Bottle. I’m learning a lot about all kinds of newbies that I’ve never seen post before. As you see I’m quite the newbie myself, which clearly shows in previous posts I made.

My real name is Ramon and I’m from The Netherlands. My nickname is from the phonebook. When I needed a character name for a roleplaying game I play, I got the dictionary and just picked a name with my eyes closed. This resulted in Aghris. I played the character bearing the name for over three years, and in the mean time, I more and more resembled the character I played. At this moment I think I’m more like Aghris than I am like Ramon. Maybe I should change my name altogether… nah, probably not.

As said, I’m originally from Holland, but I moved to the UK a year ago. I live quite happily in Edinburgh but I am actively looking for jobs abroad. (Abroader than the UK even).

I have to say that I really like your thread. Usually when a thread like this is started, it results in a post that is only reacted to by board veterans. I really like the amount of newbies that post to this thread.

All the best to you.

I’ll wander in and tell ya a little about myself. My name is Deb and since you need a number picked 2 and then chose the first word to come into head.

I am divorced, have been in the military (flight line on F4s) and am now an electrical engineer. My parents live with me. I also have a brother who has moved in. And I think I finally got rid of my sister and her three kids this morning–well actually I think it was my cat, there was something about sis doing a bathroom run and my cat, who doesn’t like sis, doing a bathroom run on her bed. Oh no thanks I don’t drink, but I will take a glass of water if ya got one. I enjoy the parents living with me, it is actually nice to have a closeness with them in their twilight years.

As mentioned above I have a cat, a cute tortoise-shell 6 year old girl named Petite. She is a model, loving cat with me, but is not friendly with anyone else. But I think that may be because I don’t have a problem when a cat walks away from me or demands to win. They are just so cute doing it. I like dogs, the parents have a Chinese pug and my bro has a mixed something or other dog.

I sing alto in our church choir. I am very active in the church and Christ is my first love. I enjoy baseball to the point of going from fan to fanatic. I go to the Angels games about 30 times per season. Next year is our year, you just see. I enjoy a good pun, ok maybe there is no such thing a good pun but… Oh, ya I am a native So Cal girl.

Greetings, Bottle of Smoke! Nice thread; it reminds me of a thread Omniscient started about a year ago, Put your modesty away, and share that elicited some background from quite a few of us. It was time for another.

Unlike you, although I have unmonitored access, I don’t post from work - I’m quite busy at work. I do check the board when I go home for lunch (most days).

Anyway, I’m a 47 year old, single, geophysicist, 20 years at it, employed by an oil and gas exploration company for ~6 months now, after 10 years of having my own consulting firm (which I might sell before the end of the year - that would be a happy dance occassion!). Retired crazy (see Omni’s thread).

Amen sister! I’ve had a life long on and off again relationship with my body.

Amongst other things, I’ve been meeting people of the board for almost a year now - I’ve made 13 Doper meetings since the end of October last year (hmm…, time to get HouDope Oktoberfest in gear) and of just those responding to this thread so far, I’ve met:

Silo
h_thur
Zyada
bump
Mr. Cynical

Enjoyed them all.

And it looks like we may bag some new HouDopers in Dolores Claiborne and neuroman if we’re lucky.

I’ll not post a physical description, instead, you can see some pictures of me here, courtesy of techchick68

TwistOfFate – wrestling move? Hardy Boyz? (That’s what I thought when I read your username but figured I’d be the only one on this board unsophisticated enough to make that connection…)

Hey beatle, did Irishman ever get his Vegas pictures devoloped? I know he has some good pictures!..and I’d love to check 'em out.

Hello. I’m 45, single, and live in New Jersey right outside of New York City. My name is from the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical “Whistle Down the Wind,” which has the song “Annie Christmas.” By mind-boggling coincidence,I’ve been a huge ALW fanatic since Jesus Christ Superstar, my last name is Anne, and my B-day is Decembe 25th. Go figure.

I spent 10 years as a wino, ruined my stomache, and having drunk in over 12 years. High school dropout to get married (stupid), later got my GED and took some college classes. I.Q. in the 140’s, but social retarded. I work in an office job that I absolutely hate. I’m the type of person that doesn’t make any impression on people.

Good morning, everyone. Glad to see more posts! Thanks for the link, beatle, that’s a great thread that gives us some insight on the posters that have been around a while.

Racing Chiki- yup, Hardy boyz. I became a fan of theirs after watching the Ladder match againgst Edge and Christian last November. They truely put themselves ion the line.
(plus I have a thing for Lita)

Hi, my name is Joe, I’m 39 years old, 5’8, 175 lbs, with buzzed brown hair and green eyes. I make my living as a copy editor for a health care consulting firm in Falls Church, VA, just a short hop on the Beltway from Washington, DC. I share a townhouse in Springfield, VA with three roommates and my cat, Neutron.

I picked my online name from a phrase I use IRL, “You go, boy,” although I have thought about changing it.

As most of you know, I’m gay and very single, although I keep my eyes open in case Mr. Right ever shows up. I spend a lot of time at the gym or outdoors as long as the weather holds, although I tend to be a slug in the winter. I read constantly, especially science fiction, history, and anything to do with physics or astronomy. On weekends, you can catch me two-stepping at Remington’s, a C/W bar on Capitol Hill.

Like many folks in the Metro DC area, I’m a transplant. I was born in the Ozark mountains of Missouri, was raised in Kentucky and Tennessee, and went to college in Indiana.
After college, I worked in Yellowstone, the Grand Tetons, Death Valley, and the Grand Canyon, where I spent three years living and working at Phantom Ranch, a tourist camp for hikers and muleriders by the Colorado River at the bottom of the Canyon.
After that, I spent six years teaching English in Seoul, South Korea, which gave me the opportunity to travel all over Asia.
Last year, I settled down here in the Metro DC area, and I’m currently planning to start law school next year.

Me too!

:stuck_out_tongue:

Silo, just for you

I believe WE’LL be the judge of that scar. First post a photo, including your ample bosoms (need to know how it fits into the landscape)…

Hi. I’m a 39 year old single male residing in Santa Cruz CA. I’m a technical writer for a living. I read way to much and walk 3-5 miles every day. I laugh constantly. Nice to meet you fine folks.

HI, Bottle of Smoke!

I’m really a “Kris”; Tabithina is my cat. (I suspect she’s smarter than me, anyhow.;))
I live in the Missouri Ozarks and make jewelry. I’m supposed to be getting ready for another apple festival craft show than I’m in tomorrow. Hah! The SDMB is pretty addictive.
I’m a mom to two boys, one is nine, the other three months old.
I’m 37, 5’ 5", and more pounds than you need to need to know about. I have blonde hair and blue eyes. I’ve been told I look like an “innocent type”. Don’t know why…
I’m a native of Wisconsin; I grew up in Milwaukee, Kenosha, and Racine, respectively. I fled Racine when I was 21. I hear it’s a lot nicer there now, but I haven’t been back in a long time.
I moved out to California to be with my boyfriend, whom I later married. We’ve been together for ages, it’s a good marriage.
My long-suffering spouse even seems to enjoy my wretched limericks; he’s a sweet guy.
We bought our first home in the Ozarks, and have lived here since '92. I love it here. Rolling hills and friendly people.
Nice to meet you, now I have to get back to work:(.

What the hell.

First of all, I am male. My name is Martin, and I have attained the meager age of 22. I just graduated from Columbia University in May, with degrees in history and classics, which of course prepared me perfectly for a low-paying job in nonprofit political activism. I still live in NYC with my SO of 4 years, MerrySquirrels (who didn’t deign to mention me in her own post ;(), and our four delightful cats.

I am drifting through a careerless haze right now. My grand unified plan to enter grad school immediately and then academia thereafter lost its luster several months ago, so I am considering all kinds of careers. My job right now doesn’t matter to me that much, as I have both MerrySquirrels and my new obsession, historical and classical swordsmanship, in my life. Perhaps I will become a mature, interesting person some day.

MR

Hmm… I have a thing for Matt…

I have been avoiding posting to this thread, mostly because I’d be pleasantly surprised if anyone wanted to know anything more about me than they already know.

But it just keeps going, and going, and my resistance has worn down. So…

Pardon me if I make typos, here, my “child” is sitting on my arms as I type.

I have red hair and blue eyes, work in dentistry as an office manager, and have a cat(see above) who owns me. Never, EVER suggest that I own her, as World War III may break out. She is a chocolate point siamese, and she owns both me, and my house.

I read voraciously, mostly mysteries, and enjoy crafts and cooking. I love English history and Shakespeare, and trivia. Sometimes I play a national trivia game with some friends, and I enjoy that very much. I try to get to Ashland, Oregon every year or two for the Shakesperean festival. My family has a team in the Relay For Life every year to raise money for the American Cancer Society, and I am president of Sr. Catherine Auxiliary to our local hospital. We raise money for things that we feel are necessary that the hospital does not have money for in it’s budget-things like a geriatric center.

My mother died about three years ago, and one year later I lost my oldest brother to the same kind of cancer. The most important thing in my life right now is making sure that my father is happy and healthy and that he never, ever feels unloved or useless. [Mom Cheri mode] Call your mother and tell her you love her[/Mom Cheri mode]

I have a wonderful and much loved family, both by blood and by love, and I am a very lucky lady.

I live in the PNW, and truly believe that this is God’s country. I’ve never had any desire to live anywhere else.

Boring but useful, that’s me.

Boy, it’s funny how the mental image you have of someone can be nothing like what they really are.

To that end, in case anyone is wondering if I am the Miss Bunny of stripper fame: no, I’m not. My username comes from one of my kitties. I’m 35 and live in Boston now and have also lived in Paris, SC, DC, CT, MD, and Turkey. I work in private equity; it’s an okay job but I’d rather be an opera singer. I have a BA from a U.S. university in French and Italian and a diploma from a French university; I speak a few other languages besides those two (learning them is kind of a hobby) but I could never pass the GMAT math section without some serious tutoring.

I’m 5’5" and have really pale skin, a lot of reddish-blond hair (too bad I can’t donate some to a bald person) and blue eyes. A woman stopped me on the street last week because she thought I was Gillian Anderson; I think it was more my outfit than any true resemblance.

I love all animals and have the three most beautiful, sweetest, smartest, best cats in the world, whom I love to death. One was from the Animal Rescue League and the other two were feral and I tamed them. I’ve done this with a couple other cats and then found homes for them. I would have kept them myself if I had a house, which I want to buy soon, but I can’t decide if I’d rather have a condo downtown or a house with a garden, so until I decide I’m renting a really tiny apartment owned by some friends.

I read a lot - A LOT! - and one of my favorite poems is The New Colossus by Emma Lazarus (it’s the poem on the Statue of Liberty). I play several musical instruments but mainly the piano, and I thankfully have access to a Steinway grand that is a thing of joy to behold. I often wonder how I ended up in such a business-oriented job because growing up everyone thought I would be a concert pianist or an artist. Life just doesn’t turn out the way you think it will sometimes.

I go to Europe several times a year but I’ve never been to CA, so I might try flying in the other direction soon.

That’s all.

Sorry it took so long for me to respond…
Anyway, for anyone that cares:
I, Doug, grew up in New Jersey (Delbarton High School…any other alumni out there?), then went on to Boston College. My roomate at B.C. for two years was Scoonie Penn, but after he transferred to O.S.U. I lived off-campus. Anyway, I now work in Manhattan for a small ‘dot-com’ company, working as a programmer/developer/consultant for internet companies.
In my free time, I d.j. (I used to deejay at ‘Who’s on First’ in Boston, Now I dj at ‘Live’ in NY)
