Ho Ho Ho - The Christmas MMP

<le sigh>

I am working NY day, so no party for me. Wales looks awesome-I wish we had stuff like that here. How big is the cottage? Are meals included? I’m nosey, dammit!

dogbutler -I didn’t understand your post re the snow. You have to come anway? What (exactly) does that mean? Or do I want to know?
FCM -future inlaws…nothing beats the inlaws to be from Sixteen Candles-be grateful you only got an apron(!). I got an apron from my own mother this year-wth?

And my daughter got one too…yikes.

Off to finish errands. Work tomorrow and Monday. Ugh.

I luuuurrrrrrvvves me a good potluck; anytime, anywhere. I’m also a Lutheran of Scandinavian extraction, so the fondness for such is probably genetic.

Didn’t Neil Gammen write a short story about a gathering like this? Because it sounds very familiar.

Bobbio they have a website. Gaze upon the many wonders offered by Sunnyland Farms. I sometimes get free stuff from there cause the owner likes me. She and her late husband are (were) nice people who think (thought) I am (was) wonderful. What can I say? They’re good judges of character.

I’m home. ACBG is working for a while yet but is coming over when he’s done. Maybe I should take a nap and rest up.

And I thought I was **jealous ** of Drae’s plans for the summer!

Okay, I’m feeling better–still not 100 percent, but better than first thing this morning. Besides, if not for going back to sleep, I wouldn’t have been able to dream about competitive full-contact shopping and shooting burglars, right? I need to get some spicy-hot food and burn the rest of The Sick out of me. Fever? I say jalapenos!! Mindy. I’d been so worried about keeping the Other Half well, this one snuck up on me.

And now I know why Rosie uses notes when typing a response. If you miss a page of posts, it’s easy to get lost.

Rosie, watching movies is a great idea–food, company and stuff to watch. I’m rummaging through all the movies we’ve bought and haven’t had a chance to watch. Yesterday, I hooked up all the electronics so that we have DVD AND VCR capability on both major TVs. I have not yet had the motivation to program a single remote, so we have to deal with three each. I have the lucky designation of technical specialist in the house; if you need irrigation or landscaping advice, I’ve got your man–but everything else is my domain.

Taters , I’ve got to know how the prime rib soup turned out. It sounded awesome, and I’ve got the leftovers in the fridge…

Mama Tiger, have no fear. Just keep chipping at that job and the pages will flow. The worst I ever had to scope were press junkets (aka total chaos, especially when you have NO IDEA who the speakers are). I know the subject matter blows and you wonder how people can do things like that to others, but at least it has some human interest. When jobs were particularly painful, I used to take delight in making sure that every “er” and “um” were included.

BooFae, that sounds like a perfect holiday. I wish I’d thought of getting some board games stocked up for this weekend as well. I’m like a lot of the other posters–leave NYE to all the amateurs. I worked for a lot of years in the personal injury field which has convinced me to stay home most all holiday weekends and leave the nuts to pare down their own numbers.

MGB, I thought of you yesterday. I was hunting up the two evil rotten kitties yesterday (with having five fur children, I take a head count at least three times a day) when Willie aka Sugar Pants presented the perfect Cuervo pose from the rafters of the garage. Cuervo’s picture taken with his head through the banister is one of my all time favorite cat pictures. As for the stepping in kitty yark, I agree with Draelin (I believe)–at least you weren’t wearing pantyhose. That is the WORST.

Nava, boiled lettuce sounds awful. Cabbage on the other hand…

Tupug, is “Hey, watch this” kind of like “Here, hold my beer”?? We just moved into our quiet little neighborhood about four months ago, but we’re in a beach community so I’m sure I’ll be soothing some frayed puppy nerves this weekend, with all the fireworks.

Where have Kaiwik and gt been? Enjoying the holidays, I hope.

Wow, I didn’t mean for this post to go on so long. I guess I must be feeling better.

I have no plans for NYE, except to stay up until midnight and listen to the neighbors set off fireworks and bang on pots and pans. I’m sure there will be yahoos firing guns into the air as well. The cats are planning on spending the evening under the bed. I wish San Jose had a First Night. I used to go every year when I lived near Santa Cruz and that was a lot of fun. Safe, too.

I couldn’t resist and cast on my lovely yarn this morning. It’s like knitting with velvet worms. It’s very slippery, but the result will be worth it. The last one is similar to the color mine will be. A lot of people have knit this scarf in another yarn, I’m not sure why. The pattern is pretty basic, it’s the yarn that makes this scarf. Otherwise, it’s nothing special, just a reversible cable scarf.

Nava, I have an ampersand from when they took our old name down from the lobby. We used to be Dewy, Cheatum & Howe, and I kept the & part. I don’t know why, everyone else wanted the letters, but I just wanted that &. I keep it in between my Tasmanian Devil on a Motorcycle and Pinky & the Brain cookie jars. And boiled lettuce? Ew! I read in a book set in the early 1800s in the US about boiled salad, but I thought that meant something else, not actual boiled lettuce.

I’m trying to get motivated to go do the family Christmas thing with Mr. SCL’s sisters and brother in law. I just don’t feel like it. The bright spot is that I have a hockey game tonight - it’s an away game but it still gives me an excuse to leave so I can get home to listen to it online.

No NYE plans here - I may go over to a friends house and celebrate, or I may stay here. Either way I will not be driving.

Thanks for the encouragement, LemO; I need it right now. The pages are flowing, and I know what you mean – don’t ever piss off the reporter/transcriber, they’ll make your every word look beyond incoherent. I’m also enchanted with this guy’s argument, that basically if the claimant hadn’t ratted him out, he’d be able to pay the old lady back; but since she did, now it’s all the fault the firm he worked for since they failed to properly supervise and stop him! Methinks it won’t get him anywhere, but I do give him points for creativity. :dubious:

The guys plus the bunny have gone to the doggie beach, so in an hour or two I expect there will be two soaked people and two soaked but VERY happy dogs bouncing in the door. And then crashing hard for the rest of the day. In the meantime, it’s so peaceful and quiet, with nobody here but me and the cat, and she’s too busy sleeping in the sun to care about stupid humans – it’s not dinnertime yet, after all!

That’s a great scarf pattern, Jahdra. Where would I find the actual pattern? And what yarn are you using? I’d love to knit a few of those myself as gifts for various people.

LemmeOut, the soup turned out awesome! We had some for dinner last night. The stock was nice and rich and I added veggies, barley, and egg noodles.

I have been informed that I am not considered mission essential for Tuesday, so I have an extra paid day off. I’m not complaining.

Sigh, back to comparing databases. Envy me; I just know you do.

I am very :frowning: . My Lily cat needs ear drops twice a day, and I’ve been giving them to her since Tuesday evening, and now she runs and hided every time I walk in the room. Or if she lets me get close, she flinches when I try to pat her. :frowning: I wish I could make her understand that the drops will make her ears feel better.

Lucky you, Taters. At Papa Tigs’ site, they were informed that all contractors have to report to work. And since he’s not officially feeding off the gummint trough yet, this means him. Of course, it’ll probably be a workday like this week, where he yawns for three hours and then gives up and comes home again.

Taxi, try warming the eardrops in a cup of hot water before you put them in her ears. A vet taught me that trick years ago, and it makes a LOT of difference. That, and loads of kitty treats afterwards.

That’s a great idea. I’ll try it tonight (if she comes out from under the bed :frowning: )

Tigs, the pattern is Vintage Velvet in Scarf Style. Be warned that this is a very “arty” knitting book, in that it is very difficult to see the finished product. But the human models look great! It does have great patterns, like the popular Lady Eleanor, an entrelac stole. The yarn I’m using is Muench Touch Me Due (in color 5407), a two-toned version of Muench Touch Me. The retail price is $17.50 for Touch Me Due, $15 for Touch Me, and it rarely goes on sale, so when it does, people snatch it up. Vintage Velvet requires 5 skeins. Touch Me is the only chenille yarn that felts, and then it feels like crushed velvet. I also love the Victorian Velvet wrap from Wrap Style, but that’s too much of a splurge, even for me.

Yeah, I figured I’d be stuck coming in, so I’m considering myself lucky. If I did come in, they’d have to pay me holiday pay. This applies to several other folks in my division as well. This would kill our budget. As it is, when I do work late, I don’t even get overtime, I receive comp time.

taxi, I’m sorry to hear about your kitty. I hope the warming the drops trick works.

Being a beltway bandit, I have to work Tuesday, too.

I have approval to telecommute, however.

I don’t have to envy you - it’s what I’ve been doing all damn day.

Okay, Jah, that book has such amazing patterns in it that I ordered it on the spot! Now for a trip to the Yarn Garden for the perfect yarn as soon as I get the book…<rubs hands gleefully> That entrelac stole is beyond spectacular! I may have to make that for myself! I’ve done entrelac before and I just love the way it turns out.

Taxi - I’m seconding the pampering after the drops also.

Lily is scared and upset and doesn’t understand, but if she can count on all sorts of petting and rubbing afterwards, she’ll get calmed down better and faster.
