Sigh. Mom took a fall out on her deck a little while ago and was transported to the ER by ambulance. I’m waitin’ on word as to how bad, but I’m goin’ up tomorrow no matter what. Just think I need to be there. No more bad news is allowed to pass my ears. None. Nada. I mean it bad news!
I learned that Hank shot himself in the chest in their back yard. He also called the police right before he did it to tell them he was about to kill himself. A next door neighbor, and a neighbor across the street (a policeman) heard the shot and went over to investigate and found him. Linda was gone at the time. When she got home there were police, EMTs, the Coroner, and an ambulance there. I cannot even begin to imagine what that must have been like. No idea if he left any kind of note or not. I would not ever ask a question like that though I imagine I will here whether or not he did at some point.
On a brighter note, I got a bacon Christmas tree ornament at deheathenization this mornin’. I shall treasure it always.
No broken bones and the head scan was good. Mom will need a couple of stitches over her right eye. I think she might stay overnight at the horsepistol for observation which she will not like but, well, tough. At her age that’s kinda SOP. I’m still goin’ on up tomorrow cause I think it’s best. For now however, nappage shall ensue. Then I need to pack up and we will go see about Linda and take food later today.
swampy, you need to get your mom and outfit made of bubble wrap!
I worry about my mom falling. I’ve asked her to carry her cell phone just in case, but she won’t. If she fell down the basement stairs, it could be days before anyone noticed - I don’t think anyone calls her daily. And if she got hurt outside, who knows how long before someone would find her. None of her neighbors are within line of sight of much of her yard. And she’s too stubborn to carry the damned phone…
Mom is home so that’s good. I just got back from Linda’s. We didn’t stay long cause what with her family there and all, there’s way more than enough people there. I explained to her about mom and she said she would expect I’d go and not to worry about stuff here. JDD and Partner also assured me they would make sure there was plenty of the requisite ham, fried chikin, N.O.T. sallit, and deviled aigs.
MOOOOOOM I know what you mean. Mom has a cell phone but it’s pretty much a paperweight on her kitchen counter. I’m just thankful my sis is there with her but sis does have to work and such. And so, we become our parents’ parents.
Please don’t take this wrong, but calling the police takes care of the problem of who will find you. That would be a terrible task to force on someone.
The cold front is here. We decided to try out the new BBQ place in Leonardtown for late lunch/early supper. It was still in the low 60s when we left the house. Now it’s in the 40s and the wind is blowing like crazy!!!
Of course, it wasn’t too cold for me to stop for ice cream.
Regarding the BBQ place, it’s OK, but a tad pricey, IMHO. First strike against them - they have Pepsi products, not Coke. But since I mostly drink water with supper, it’s really not that big a deal.
I hadn’t mentioned this, partly because I’d forgotten, but FCD’s brother is having a triple or quadruple bypass tomorrow morning. I know this is going to sound cold, but it ticks me off. He’s had all kinds of health issues for years and he absolutely refuses to do what his doctors say regarding diet, exercise, and meds. His wife, who is older than I am, has had to keep working because he got fired from his last 4 jobs, and because of his health now, he hasn’t worked for at least 2 years. If he’d behaved like a responsible adult, maybe this surgery wouldn’t have been necessary. Anyway, I’m having a really tough time being sympathetic, and yeah, I don’t much like this BIL anyway. But those of you who are more charitable than I might consider sending a good thought or two his way.
my mother got one of those life alert thingies but i think she doesn’t wear it anymore. than again she isn’t living alone anymore either.
so much for today being warmer, it’s cold outside and still icy in spots. i slipped on the back sidewalk and there is still a bit of snow out there.
i had to go back to the store because they forgot one of out bags. i would have been happy with a store credit but they wanted me to come get it. just as well - damn i didn’t get my coleslaw either. they forgot all the deli stuff.
i’m not going back out.
Evenin’ all!
{{Swampy, friends and family}} (need bigger arms)…
Had work ‘Christmas do’ last night. Three people huddled in the corner of a pub is not a party, I don’t care how you spin it. Still, at least the customers at work as still almost worryingly lovely, I had Christmas presents from two of the regulars today. I don’t think that’s ever happened to me before.
I’ve been spending the last few evenings starting to try get up to date on the current standards for the subjects that I did at school, just in case this uni course actually happens (also in case this course manager meeting thing turns into an interview of sorts). About half of it so far has been totally unfamiliar; I’ve not just forgotten loads, the ratbags completely redid the syllabus on me over the last 15 years, so this is going to take a while.
Didja hear about the proctologist & psychiatrist went into business together?
Called their practice Odds & Ends
Yes. It is.
Haven’t been here in a couple of days. Lost two cameras the other night due to the cold. One the battery died quickly, but that is kinda to be expected. The other would start to record, then stop on it’s own. When I got home to look, there wasn’t anything recorded, so I missed one whole bar. They also took a different route, which I wasn’t informed of so had to do an extra three blocks up the big, steeeep hill in teens° while they just went up a staircase. Missed the shot I wanted & took about to mins to recover. That’s the second time I’ve been up that hill in killer cold. The last time was one day after a horrific fatal accident that made national news about a car getting stuck on the RR tracks in upstate NY. The cop finally yelled, “Just spit it out, man” when I was trying to tell them there was a car on the RR tracks. Luckily no injuries from my reported incident. (I had nothing to do with the car, wasn’t mine, wasn’t driving, wasn’t in it, didn’t know whose it was, just saw that they went forward instead of reverse & ended up stuck in a precarious position. :smack:
It snowed Fri overnight, which turned into sleet yesterday morn & then rain as temps continued to rise. Went to see Star Wars in the afternoon
He’s alive. He’s dead. They made a cameo appearance, & it was used.
Hope I didn’t blow it too much for ya. :o
& then a party afterwards. It was interestin’ driving home as the earlier weather conspired to make very thick [del]pea soup[/del] fog.
flytrap I agree and am sure that’s why Hank called the police. Looks like he knew it’d be a while before Linda got back home so he made sure she wouldn’t be the one to find him. His funeral will be a graveside service Wednesday mornin’. There will be a visitation Tuesday evenin’.
I’m sorry about your Mom, Swampy. Wasn’t she in the hospital a little while ago, or have I entered a time warp, or more likely, have your mom confused with someone else’s mom? Anyway, take care of your mom. Moms are important. I lost mine a few years ago and I still miss her terribly at times.
Dammit! now my eyes are sweating.
We still have snow on the ground here, but it’s melting. The weather guessers say it’s going to be a bit warmer for the next couple of days, so that’s nice.
I have gotten remarkably soft in my old age. I was telling one of my cousins the other day about the chicken trucks that roll through downtown. See, they’re flatbed semis stacked with open air cages full of chickens going, I suppose, to be slaughtered.
Those poor birds look so miserable that it hurts my heart and every time I see them I vow to become a vegetarian.
Wifey agrees with me on this, but we aren’t making much progress. For one thing, we’ve got a freezer out back full of meat, and for another, almost all my best recipes have meat in 'em. I have found one good vegetarian recipe that we like, (chili verde), but I need more. I’ve got a vegetarian cookbook here somewhere. :dubious:
Ima click ‘Show your signature’ to see if I still have one and what it was. If it’s inappropriate, please forgive.
Prayers will ascend for you all even though the follow-up news is good. Ya’ll need it there feller.
Dinner was store pizza and excellent. Tomorrow starts another round of doubles so bedtime will be early today and I’ll be well down Page One tomorrow.
I’m all packed. I reminded myself that even if I do need to stay a couple of weeks, my mother does possess both washer and dryer and both will clean even south Jawja clothes. Also, she has both iron and ironin’ board if needed. Og knows I should know clothes are washable, right?
Bumba mom was in the horsepistol for two days week before last. I didn’t go up then. Even though my plans were to go up Thursday or Firday this week, I still think I need to go on up tomorrow if for no other reason than to give the sibs, especially sis, a breather.
Ruble prayers are always appreciated. Matter of fact thanks everyone for all the thoughts and prayers for mom and for my friends. I feel like I’ve done nuttin’ but post bummer posts the past twenty-four hours and y’all are the bestest!
Moooom, it sounds like you got the stuff we got last night. When I went out to the car to go to the store, I had to scrape ice and there were small branches and big twigs on the walkway.
bumba, check out Recipes.com or other recipe sites for vegetarian dishes. I make a mean eggplant or zucchini lasagne, eggplant parm, a number of decent tofu stir fries and several lentil dishes. While I’m not vegetarian, a lot of potlucks that I participate in have a few, so it’s always nice that they have a main dish to eat.
I went to the BB and B for refill cartridges for the SodaStream today and while I was there, I picked up a bamboo cutting board for the nephew with whom I’ll be spending a “Jewish Christmas” TM (going out for Chinese or Indian and a movie). I also stopped at World Market for a few “fancies” for high tea for my SIL. All in all, I spent more money than planned.
