Holiday baking in the MMP

It’s rainin’ hard out. Guess that’s better than it rainin’ hard indoors. I hear occasional thunder booms as well.

Butters you have inspired me! Thursday is supposed to be cool and brekkie for dindin would be perfect on a cool day.

On that note I shall go join OYKW in the boudoir to watch teevee until sleepy time. I have a feelin’ that won’t be a long time in comin’ what with the rain and all. Rain and sleep go so good together.

Nitey Nite Y’all!

The first significant snow of the year. While it came down steady basically the roads were just wet or at most a little slushy. That didn’t stop everyone from going straight into GOOD LORD THE WORLD IS COMING TO AN END – PANIC!!! mode but I just ignored most of them.

Beat by the Bear. <snaps fingers>

I haz a happy. I hooked up a bluetooth speaker and I have tunes!

Kids were non-committal on dinner, so I ordered pizza. Tomorrow I’m expecting a snow day. I’m fairly confident that we have enough TP to make it through. I should really stock up soon though. :stuck_out_tongue:

But ::look::

butters, my mom and most of the older kids in the family went to work at the overall factory when they left school at 16. They were likely making clothes out of cotton thay came from a mill like the one where your family worked.

And nowadays cotton is almost out of reach price wise. Cotton sheets and shirts cost an arm and a leg now.

And speaking of overalls. Hubby said he wanted some now that he is officially an old man so I ordered him two pair of Dickies overalls. He paid though. A business expense.

That’s comforting.

Sup is getting sick again. That woman has some horrible bug at least once per month, and spreads it. Same sup made a comment or two about my getting sick more frequently than she thinks reasonable. At least one of my illnesses since taking this job was BECAUSE of her! I’m 47, she’s 29, and I’m a lot healthier overall.

Couple of interesting moments at irk:
While not wishing to go into much detail, let’s just say I deal with people past-due on payments owed to my employer. I talk to borrowers, co-signers, and assorted others.

One quite nice co-signer explained that his account statement had gotten lost in the mail. His employer? US Postal Service. He laughed right along with me on that one.

One not-so-nice co-signer bitched and whined about how awfully my employers treats customers. His employer? Wells Fargo.

Couldn’t you just substitute equal-measure Splenda for the sugar in a normal recipe?

Canes win!!!

Happy Birthday swampmom!!!

You sound like the lookout on The Titanic.

After 29 retail Christmases, I hate the commecialization, too. And as why to keep going, “Illegitimi non carborundum”*

“We have come for the Krites.”

*“Don’t let the bastards wear you down.”

I don’t know. Maybe replace the oil with applesauce? I don’t know…

Not really. My mother used to do a lot of baking around Christmas, including fruitcake, which I pretended I liked, so as not to hurt her feelings.

I seldom make sweet treats, but, this year, I’m buying some pre-made cookie dough and give it try.

Sunny, my sister (who lives next door) is a doctor, and she said it’s nothing to worry about - just a cough that needs some extra time to go away, since it’s her first germs from kindergarten. A bad cough like that, along with a drippy nose and red sore eyes, can be a sign of measles, but my little one has been vaccinated.

White Choc and Cranberry Shortbread has been baked. I think I may have to lever my arse off the chair and take the kids swimming, since it’s 3:10pm here, 28C/82F and sunny outside.

Wait—kids??? Last I remember it was just the Princess…

Blurf. I was at the gym last night for a session with my personal trainer - she is definitely trying to kill me. Or cripple me. Or just wear me out. Anyway, got home and flopped on the sofa for an hour with an episode of Supernatural and then couldn’t sleep when I got to bed. So today I’s tired already.

We are going out for our office xmas lunch today at a local pub. We have all pre-ordered food so I fully expect the kitchen to have lost it, messed it up, or to deny all knowledge of ever receiving it. Luckily I didn’t organise it so it falls firmly into the SEP field.

And it’s pub night tonight, our friends are going to a show at a local theatre so we’re meeting them in the pub afterwards. That means I have to get home and make dinner, then get i’m indoors organised to become 'im outdoors in a reasonable amount of time. I predict grumbling because we need to go into town on the bus and he reckons we have the worst bus service on the planet.

This reminded me: my maternal grandmother didn’t bake. Never. She was a good cook and she made great soups, but she didn’t bake. I’m sure one of the main reasons was due to all of the really good bakeries within walking distance of her house - this was in east Baltimore. (One of the local bakeries was owned by the Mikulski family - which produced Maryland’s Senator, but that’s another story.)

Anyway, one year she decided to try baking cookies. She bought a roll of cookie dough. And she managed to burn most of them. So I grew up without memories of a loving grandmother in an apron pulling a freshly-baked <anything> from the oven. Such a childhood trauma!!!

We’re bracing for the gawd-awful cold that’s due in tonight. The next two days won’t get above freezing, then we’re due for snow and freezing rain and other unpleasantness. ugh. I need to remember to find some gloves tonight. If I don’t have them, you just know I’m going to be stuck in a situation where I need them…

Have I mentioned that I’m not a fan of winter??

Happy Wednesday anyway.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 62 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 64 and cloudy for the day with maybe some more rain this mornin’ but I doubt that will happen. Tomorrow and Firday will be a lot more cool weather wise. No big plans for the day which is fine by me. Dindin will be bbq sammiches made with the leftover poke roast from Moanday along with fries and coleslaw. Thus the big chore of the day is to make slaw.

OK, I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy demands sustenance. Then I suppose I should purtify somewhat for no other reason than to not be a slob.

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

It’s like you don’t even know how to be jobless. Sigh.

Up ,caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today? Who knows.

He’s not going to :eek:Wally-World:eek: today, so it’s acceptable to be sheveled.

FCM, according to AccuWather, it’s supposed to be 36 on Friday ,and 68 on Sunday.:dubious: “Weather by Sybil”

Happy Hump Day!

It’s a clear 35 degrees outside, with a slight chance of rain. The we have two days of frigid temps. It looks like the temp may warm up for Saturday, so maybe I will go to the party. Then Sunday is supposed to be in the 50s, the Moonday drops below freezing again.

Whatever! Looks like the weather needs some prozac or something.

Today is psych final day, he has to turn in his psych paper, and *school is done *until January

YEA! Because now he has no excuse not to get out there and start sucking up leaves.

Last night as I was going to a house concert, I had to walk in the road instead of on the sidewalk, because a guy’s dog suddenly decided to take a crap in the middle of the sidewalk. Heh. It wasn’t a big deal, it wasn’t an area with a lot of traffic anyway.

I then arrived at the concert. A blind friend said it was nice to see me. The bass player got my Santa hat wet somehow. The music was wonderful, and so well-played, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many cookies in my life. A great evening.
