August 19, 2011, WV State Fair to be exact! We have good tickets [last minute decision on my part and thank you StubHub for the tickets] and I’ve got everything crossed that the weather isn’t too hot and humid, else the trip is a no-go.
Alice should fit in pretty well [and so will we!], seeing as there’s going to be a lot of freaks and weirdoes there at the same time:D I still can’t get over the lineup, there’s a couple of country bands, a Xtian band [Mercy Me, I think?] and…Alice. This is the man who started the whole shock-rock genre, at the FAIR. I probably shouldn’t be all that surprised, Def Leppard’s played there and I’m thinking there were a couple other big rock acts that played the WVSF a year or so back.
My sister was just telling me that Alice was going to be at the state fair. Lo, how the mighty have fallen! I can hear it now: “I’m sixty! I don’t know who I am!”
How fun! I’d love to see Alice Cooper. I was hoping he’d play at our state fair. We got Blue Oyster Cult and REO Speedwagon this year (and a bunch of other less well known groups).
You’re serious? The man has enough money to last umpteen lifetimes. He tours because he wants to, not because he needs the $$$. Why put yourself through the stress of a larger show if you and your fans are happier with smaller ones?
I am totally jealous. I’ve been wanting to see Alice for a long time, but he never plays anywhere near where I am. I mean, I love ya, Alice, but I’m not driving three hours to the Indian casino on a work night.
No, THE Fair is the Minnesota State Fair. Though I can’t find “I Found My Thrill On Machinery Hill” online.
You really should be more specific when talking about those lesser states.
.38 Special played The Taste of (crappy Chicago suburb) Lombard a few years ago. Over the 4th of July weekend. It’s sad that I need to remind other states how beneath the Upper Midwest they are. I thought we did that in 1861-65.
“You and me ain’t no movie stars, what we are, is what we are…
We share a bed, a little lovin, and TV, yeahhh…”
Ahhhh ALICE COOPER!!! AHHHH! Where are you? Want to come.
He was DJ-ing on one of our Philadelphia radio stations for a little while, and he was the best! He played deep cuts and told the best stories about the artists, first hand. Then suddenly one day, gone!
I bought “Mascara and Monsters” from Amazon.com the other day and man, it brought back memories from my teen years. There’s several songs on there that I heard a lot on the radio but never heard the titles to—“I Never Cry” and “Hello Hooray” to mention a couple. The re-master of “Billion Dollar Babies” with Alice and Donovan is so wonderfully creepy and just WRONG…love it!
Hey, that’s fantazzmo! I was lucky enough to see the Great One at the Warfield the last time he came through San Francisco a couple-three years back, and it was one red-hot, stone cold, OUT THERE rock and roll show to be sure. He did all his greats–we’re talking about a two-plus-hours concert–and managed to get himself “killed” in a dozen dfferent was at least {including the gallows, the guillotine, and a ten foot hypodermic syringe in the gut). And from my vantage point up in the nosebleed numbers, Alice seemed to be enjoying the evening as much as the audience.
Another thing that blew me away was that there were like four generations represented in the audience – ranging from folks who appeared several years older than me down to actual teenagers. I’ve been to quite a few hard rock shows in my time and this one had the widest age range I can recall.
It was, all in all, the kind of rock show I dreamed of back when I was a teenage malcontent.
Go – and be prepared to scream your head off and have a frikkin’ blast!
Does Alice still do the full makeup like he did in the 1970’s? The same over the top stage show? His stage act used to make Kiss look like kindergarten kids.
