All the links go to one place, bobbynet, and it’s broken :[
What exact time in the video are you seeing this at? I’ve watched this many times and am quite certain it is legit.
The color is off? I didn’t notice that. If it really is, and my eyes are just going bad, I’d put my money on the video capture card as the likely source of the problem. I’ve owned several different capture cards, and the color always seemed close, but not quite right on all of them. Washed-out colors are very common, leading some people to turn up the saturation in their capture program while recording in an attempt to compensate. A highly saturated video will look more pleasing to the eye, but the colors won’t be as accurate as the washed-out video. Perhaps that, or some other capture setting adjustment was made while recording the game.
World 6: 7:46/10:56 is one of them.
The other is at a water level in another world. It might just be that we are viewing different ones. The filenames of the video are like this: Super_Mario_Brothers_3.World_6.SUPER_PLAY.ShareReactor.avi
Yeah, I was referring to the “11 minutes” video linked in the OP. However, the jump performed at 7:46 of the world 6 video of the “super play” series is legitimately done. It’s not an invisible block, and it’s something you can only do as small mario.
Nice, thanks for clearing that up.
Does it seem odd to anyone else that this video is encoded in wmv? I didn’t think Microsoft had a big presence over there. Wouldn’t it be easier to encode it as a avi?
At 7:57 in the 11 minute video, how is it that he’s not hit by the twirling ball thingy? And at 9:33, it looks like he gets hit by one of the cannonballs right at the top of the screen. Also, he seems to be getting credit for two kills whenever he stomps one of those wrench-throwing guys in the manholes… I don’t remember that in the game.
But even if this thing is tweaked or hacked, it’s still damned impressive. I just counted… He only touches the ground (or anything else “solid”) ten times in the entire first tank level, counting hitting the ground and jumping to dodge a boomerang against the mini-boss.
Chronos, at 7:57 in my copy, he doesn’t get hit because he’s invincible. I’d assume that he went through several times and just realized that the easiest way to get through that part was to use a star. As of 9:23, I think he just manages to get on top of the cannonball so he doesn’t get hit. I don’t know anything about the double crediting though.
Incredible. Absolutely incredible. I’m looking up the crazygodtechnique even as we speak.
If you find a working link, please post?
I think that he’s jumping on the mole and firing a fireball to hit one of the wrenches at the same time. I can’t actually see it, but that’s what I have to guess is happening.
Yeah, either the wrench of the dead mole.
Woops, either the wrench OR the dead mole.
OK, so he used a star… Where did he get the star in the first place? Is that the reward for matching three star cards (it’s been a long time since I’ve played; I can’t remember)? I can’t think of any other way he might have gotten one.
And Achernar, you may be right, since that doesn’t start happening until after he has the fire flower. But I’m not sure if you can hit projectiles with fireballs, and I’m also not sure that fireball kills count towards the point progression (100-200-400-etc).
It seems as if it only works on the red moles.
What he does is shoot a fireball right before he hits the mole and gets 100 points for the fireball hit and 100 for the jump hit.
I also couldn’t figure out where he got the star.
Chronos - No, the reward for matching the star cards is 5 lives.
You get the star for beating the first tank level in World 8. Notice that it doesn’t have a “real” boss, just a hammer bro. Check at 3:50 to about 4:00.
I remember seeing him get the star, though I can’t remember where. Oh yea, in one of the 8 levels, after he beats the guy at the end, a chest appears and a star is inside it. I THINK it was the first tank level.
By the by at the end of the video are some links to his websites written in Japanese of course. There he explains how he did it. On an emulator at slow speed and with a bunch of attempts edited together.
link Clicking on the Japanese above the super mario.zip I’ll just quote the first part. Reading the rest in Japanglesish is too hard.
To give credit where credit was due I was steered there by Fark.

I’m not sure how long it will stay up. The SMB3 one was still damn impressive.
