I just found out that Metallica is playing at Salesforce.com’s annual user conference this year, which I’m attending at the end of August. Needless to say, I’m flabbergasted.
Say what you will about Lars’ money grubbing, I just never would have figured them as the type of band to play a corporate gig. Then again, Salesforce has gotten some big names before - they’ve had the Foo Fighters, Stevie Wonder, and the Black Crowes in recent years, all acts who don’t seem to be hurting for cash.
But Metallica? This will be interesting to see indeed. I’ve seen them several times before (though the last time was 20 years ago) and I’m curious how their act has matured, and how they’ll play to the Heineken-drinking, “I wear my necktie as a headband to show how much I rock” set. Dave Grohl seemed to take a while to warm up to the crowd (but eventually wound up kicking major ass), and the Black Crowes just seemed miserable.
I wish I had a camera back when it happened, but a bunch of friends were screwing around during a sound check and were doing lounge act versions of some of the covers on their play list. The lounge version of du hast was hysterical.
Back when I picked up some extra holiday cash working in the warehouse of Service Merchandise in Rochester they ran muzac in the place. Doors Light My Fire and Hendrix Have You Ever Been Experienced in elevator music is not to be believed:eek:
While on a somewhat trashy cruise a few months ago I noticed a Muzak rendition of Enya’s Orinoco Flow, which seemed terribly redundant to me. Light My Fire would’ve been a drastic improvement …
