Dale, m’dear, if you explain your point clearly, you have a much smaller chance of being flamed. And more importantly, as long as you don’t insult me, I won’t flame you.
But, you see, you did. I’m not a big fan of being called names based on my appearance, or how I choose to act.
That’s why I stooped to open a thread for you. In retrospect, it was a silly thing to do, and I posted in anger and frustration. We “half-assed hybrid feminine boys” are like that.
That was exactly the problem, you made it a personal attack out of rage. Rather than asking for clarification, you resorted to a personal attack. You took personal offense at my initial post regarding trends in male self-expression. You never considered that I may have long hair as well and that I didn’t consider it wrong in any way, just “trendy.” Instead, you just concluded that it was an “Us vs. Them” attack, and it wasn’t. Perhaps I wasn’t entirely clear, but one must also be careful not to make assumptions.
One more time: it is extremely difficult not to make assumptions based on insulting language. Or do you still not understand why people might be annoyed at your choice of words?
Don’t bother, ESPRIX, I may not have been called any of those things – wait, until today – but I have been called a lot worse. And oh yes, I do remember it.
Some things can be said that are simply unforgiveable. I do think that every one of us should resolve to bite our respective tongues off beforee saying them – and to apologize lavishly and abjectly if we lose our heads and say them anyway. But there’s miles of room between that and being told to “feel the love or move on.”
Here was the supposedly “offensive” part of my original post which was intentionally placed in a separate paragraph from my other thoughts, now with translations in italics…
They pierce their ears, wear their hair long, do their nails, and wear make-up. Notice how I put all of these things together, not making the claim that any ONE thing makes a man feminine. And, yes, there are men who do all of these things and I’m not talking about crossdressers. How much longer before men wear skirts? I know there is a number of men pushing for this, once it becomes the norm it’ll no longer seem strange to us. I’m wondering if gender roles are switching? A separate point about the blurring of the lines between gender roles. Now on to a whole new sentence, making a different point. That’d be fine I guess, as long as somebody is masculine and somebody is feminine. And ending with a general statement about no one in particular: There are just too many fence-riders right now.
Now please tell me which part of my language was offensive. Especially when contrasted with “Lick my bag, choad. And then go back to your one-handed typing and your fantasies of virile men.”
I find it to be a great vent. There is most definately a ton of stuff in the real world going on these days to get you fighting mad. Instead of really stewing, one can come in here and battle it out with some insequential back and forth banter. It helps me stay calm in important situations when I can burn my rage in a silly place like the Pit.
I do of course feel that people should treat each other well, that we are all in this together, and that understanding and empathy should be your guides when speaking to fellow humans. But if everybody decides to Let those guidelines slip in a common place, and no one gets physically hurt, then it can be really theraputic.
Put me in the “If you don’t like it don’t come in” column reagrding the pit, along with “It’s stupid to sweat what some person on the internet said about you”, and also the “Peace, love, and understanding are important” column.
I think all these things can work together, and often do here (on the whole board, not the pit). Believe me, I don’t hate anyone here. The people I hate these days are all people I don’t even know. I just know their actions . . .
