No doubt her cover story and documentation were elaborate and convincing (wasn’t she supposed to be French?) There are foreign nationals conducting business in Iran, after all. It may be an insular state, but it’s not as closed as is North Korea.
Good episode, although continuing along with silly flaws, Akbari was suddenly very trusting (and of course has his guards leave the room) after being so overly cautious for his previous meeting with Brody. Convenient heavy ashtray, too.
I knew what was going to happen because Brody is obviously a quadruple secret agent.
How’d Brody know Carrie’s cell phone number?
I was wondering why Carrie was speaking French to the hotel clerk. Iran was a British colony so I’d expect that English would be more common.
Iran was not a British colony.
Sorry. Because of the Anglo-Persian Oil Company, I figured that Iran had more British influence than French.
I assumed he memorized it when she called his burner.
So Showtime will make sure they never kill Brody, right?
If he comes back to the U.S. next season as a hero and they start planting seeds of this maybe being a super duper secret Iranian plot all along I might kick a kitten.
I kick one every time they call Abu Nazir; “Nazir”. Abu means “father”. Abu Nazir means father of Nazir. Barack Obama can quite properly be called; “Abu Sasha”. That does not mean his name has become “sasha” or that his own wife would call him that.
Also, how is Carrie remaining so calm if she’s off her meds?
BTW, I just saw some news on the Hollywood Reporter.
It is not a huge spoiler, just the names of two characters who are no longer regulars in upcoming seasons and might guest start later. One was bounced because fans were not thrilled with them this season…
As per this article, Brody’s wife and daughter have been dropped from full time actors on the show to them now having the option to remain as potential guest stars in future seasons. Can’t say as I am sad to see them go - their stories were tedious and didn’t do much.
Damn, what an ending. I’m bummed Brody is gone.
Me, too. Whole thing came out of left field (to me at least). Very sad.
Wow, I didn’t really think they’d kill Brody. I actually kept expecting it to have been an even bigger set-up, and that somehow Brody would show up alive. When Saul told Carrie there was a “situation” I really thought there was going to be some big reveal of another plot between Lockhart & Javardi and that Brody was alive.
Dang. So, is there really going to be another season? This felt like an end to me. There’s no Brody, no Saul. Unless it’s just going to be Carrie’s adventures in Istanbul…
I read in an article a while back (maybe even a year ago?) that Brody was only supposed to be in the first season. However, he was such a hit character, they kept him on for another season, and then again this season.
However, the writers have always stressed this is a show about Carrie and Saul - all other characters are just supporting roles.
That said, I still didn’t see this ending coming. Quite a sad shocker.
Regarding Saul - isn’t he and his wife renting/buying a house in Greece? At least that looked like where they have their villa. And of course, Greece is right next door to Turkey, where Carrie will be stationed - so what are the odds Carrie might need Saul - or Saul might need Carrie next season?
And as far as season finales go, this was a winner!
I wonder how Saul will be part of the next season’s storyline, as he’s now working for a private company, I think in New York.
And I wonder what the official story was about Brody; why he was in Iran and why he did that assassination. Does the general public still believe he was responsible for the CIA bombing?
Brody’s death was the only plausible way to end the season. And they definitely left the door open for Saul to come back. I think both he and Quinn will join Carrie in Istanbul.
I’m pleased with the way things ended, it felt like a badly needed “reset” button. It was kind of weird that the Brody family didn’t get more of a resolution though.
Seemed a bit forced to me, the last plotlinesm how they were chosen and their resolution…people just seemed, I dont know, tired.
I thought they might drop Brodie down, to break his neck, but they just slowly asphixiated him… so there is a slim chance that (the writers) drag him off to recover and use again in a some clever way:eek: him being the survivor cockroach after all.
also, for future seasons, Carries daughter Brodilina grows up to seek revenge for her fathers death and to get him a REAL star on the wall at the CIA.
I’m glad they killed Brody off. He needed to die to avoid having this show jump the shark. Any furtherance of his role in things would have been just too fantastical. As it is, they strained the limits of plausibility with the character. A good finale to his story arc.
Damn that Damien Lewis. Its mostly his fault the arc went on so long; if I had such a fantastic actor on my show, I would move heaven and earth to keep him there.
I wonder…a few flashback episodes perhaps.
