My next door neighbor’s daughter came to pick her up. She stayed in the car and honked until her mother ran out the door and down the sidewalk. Not my business, but why would anyone do that? It’s not like she’s standing by the door with her hand on the doorknob.
Anyways, this just bothers me… I see it as a form of bullying …
Would you act this way?
Is it a regular thing? I mean, if you want to play the ‘what if’ came, there could be a million reasons, maybe the daughter said “I’ll be over in 5 minutes” and the mom said “okay, honk when you get here and I’ll be out in a few minutes”. There’s a whole spectrum between that and ‘she’s just a rude nasty bitch and doesn’t care if she annoys the whole neighborhood and pisses off her mom who hates it when she gets honked at’.
Is parking a problem? That’s about the only reason I’d condone this, and if she’s got a cell phone, not even then.
Any chance she also had a baby or small kid in the car with her? If she’s just picking up her mom to go out to lunch or whatever, it would be pain to get the kids out of the car for that short a period of time.
No kids,no dog, drizzling rain… Parking on the curb by the sidewalk, plenty of room and a small parking lot across the street…
Just taking mom to Wal~Mart so she can get a few things…
It wasn’t a “tap~tap I’m here” it was a “HONKhonkidyhonkhonk -----HOOOOOONK!!”
I’d guess I’m getting old and crotchety, but it seems rude to other tenants and disrespective to her mother… Some of us need our afternoon naps…
I had a neighbor for awhile who would do this: she’d go out to her car and tell her kids to meet her there, and then wait in the car, honking her horn, until the kids came. It drove me fucking nuts. Go inside and yell at your kids if you gotta, lady, but lay off the goddamn horn.
Where are you? In the northeast, honking is considered a normal part of driving and most folks use their horn every few minutes. Or so it seems.
Around here every single change to green light is announced by the driver in the 3rd or 4th car back. After all, the light is now green and 1/4 second later he/she isn’t moving, so it *must *be time to honk, right? And these aren’t polite toots; the English translation is WAKE UP YOU STEAMING PILE OF ^&%&^%&^%&.
One quickly tires of the attitude.
Texas.
We don’t do that here, most of us are armed.
We occasionally get these honkers around here. When I’ve had enough, I open the balcony door and yell “WHAT?”
Well ------ I did break one of them a few years ago.
This was another honker.
She was just laying on the horn – continuous honk… So I rolled out of the house, phone on hand- rushed to the car… “OMG!! Are you ok??? Do you need me to call 911??! Are you having a heart attack???” She wouldn’t even look at me… By that time her daughter and mother had came out,so I was asking the same thing… “No – No,she’s fine” But she never honked again…
But I really like this lady… From what I’ve gathered she’s been bullied all her life,so I don’t want to add to that… and it’s her daughter being the bully… and one does not wish to get involved with others family dynamics
That’s actually a great way to deal with it…
Get one of those sport airhorns and next time she does it, step to your front door and let off a few blasts. If you get one of those WTF look responses, or they say something, just calmly reply you thought it must be some sort of celebration and were just helping. If you want to get really rude, wait until you definitely know Mom is asleep, and have one of your friends come over and do the honk thing. When Mom storms out bitching, tell her that you figured since she and her sprog do it, you figured she was OK with it …
If there is a god, I just hope there’s a special place in hell for these people.
Honking to get someone to come out of a building is extremely self-centered behavior, and a hallmark of trashy people. I live in a cul-de-sac bedroom community and there’s just no excuse whatsoever for these little Fuhrers demanding instant obedience.
I too have gone out to the offending vehicle and asked the little Fuhrer if he or she is all right. I like to express concern that maybe the offender was “having an episode,” without being explicit about what sort of episode.
Entitled morons.
I thought this thread would be about migrating geese.
The geese have all made it to where they were going… I love to listen to them, human honkers, not so much.
Of course it’s your business. Honking disturbs the entire neighborhood. When she honks she makes it your business. Tell her to knock it the fuck off in no uncertain terms.
Who knows why people do stuff? One time when I was living in the condo with my wife I was awakened in the middle of the night by a loud, rumbling noise. I got up only to discover that what appeared to be happening was that some a-hole was driving his P.o.S. car around to ALL the apartments and condos in the vicinity, parking in an empty spot, and revving his engine as loudly as he could - all in the wee hours of the morning on a work night. Apparently he couldn’t think of anything better to do with himself that night.
