I can login on Hotmail, but I can’t read my mail. When I click on the sender name nothing happens. If I try to open it in a new window, the windows stays blank. I’m guessing it’s a javascript problem, but I don’t know how to fix it.
Details:
OS=WinXP Home Edition
Browser=IE 6.0
under Tools/Internet Options/Advanced, Microsoft VM, I have
-Java Console enabled
-Java compiler for virtual machine enabled
both checked.
Help! It worked before my last reboot!
I’m also running WebWasher Classic (but have the same problem enabled or disabled with this) and Norton Virus Scan–no virus detected.
JavaScript is required to login to Hotmail.com…still you can check if JavaScript is enabled in IE Options > Security > Custom Levels > Active Scripting – make sure that it is enabled.
Has the page completely loaded? They seem to use JavaScript to open emails while the page is loading; after it has loaded they open with a fully qualified URL. I don’t know why…in fact on my friend’s account it opened exclusively in JavaScript…sorry I cannot be much of help. Try playing around with Hotmail’s settings…in Hotmail Navigation.
Thanks Snetho. I changed the JavaScript setting from High to Low, but no joy, so I put it back. I’m pretty sure the page is fully loaded–logo is quiet, no hourglass no matter where I move the cursor. When I try to open the mail in another window, the address is “javascript:G(bunch of parameters)” so it’s not a URL.
It works OK on other computers, so I’m sure it’s a setting on my home machine somewhere, but I CAN’T FIND IT! Ack!
Give the IE repair tool a try. You can get to it from Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs. Scroll down and find Internet Explorer. Click the entry, and follow the prompts to repair the installation. Note: not all installations will have this option available, and IE may not even be listed.
I had a similar problem, which I eventually resolved by removing and reinstalling IE.
