Hour, hour who's got the hour?

It’s just the timey wimey thing.

(absolutely sure Dr. Who said that about million times)

Time is what keeps everything from happening all at once.

Daylight savings is like making a string longer by cutting off one end and tying it to the other.

Living on the western edge of our time zone and the last thing we want in the summer is the sun still up at 9pm we here in Arizona don’t mess with God’s time observe daylight savings time.

Except the Navajo Nation in the northeast corner. Since the rez slops over some into New Mexico and a little bit into Colorado and Utah, they observe it to keep from going crazy.

Except the Hopi Nation, totally surrounded by the Navajo Nation, which does not observe DST.

Except a tiny little NN enclave inside the HN. It’s about four square miles and there are no buildings so it’s a question whether it observes DST or even if anybody cares.

Tourist guides to the area advise, “Ask locally.”

Those are the BEST days of the year! It’s great to be able to enjoy the daylight after work

Of course. Only mad dogs and Englishmen go out voluntarily when the sun is still out. The question is, do you want to start your evening assignations at 8pm or 9, especially if you have to go to work the next morning.

It can be nice. At least I don’t have to drive in the dark. I hate driving in the dark.

But my son had a near-meltdown last night because the night light didn’t go red at the usual time. He does not like the unexpected. When I explained the time situation, he then countered with “I should be able to stay up later, then.”

Nice try, kid.

The closest I get to Englishman is I speak English. Grrrrr! Ruff Ruff!

Father in Law 1.0 maintained that DSL was a middle class fix to be able to barbecue later in the day.

Someone here on the ‘Dope pointed out long ago that it saves nothing, since our business are lighted inside.

Is there a farmer issue? Something I vaguely recall about milking cows in the dark, or having lights in the barn anyway.

Cows don’t know what the time is and the farmers milk them when they are ready. The trouble is synchronizing with what’s going on outside the farm. You’ve been milking them at 5pm, now you’re milking them at 6pm clock time, but the PTA meeting at your kid’s school starts at seven, same as before.

Of all the things people complain about, back-in parking and DST are among the most pointless. Nobody wants to go to work at 8am (nor have their kids wait for the bus) with it being dark outside and people like having late daylight in the summer. Back in 1974, they got rid of DST and people complained so much they reinstated it the next year.

Just because it’s the best of two bad options doesn’t mean I can’t complain about it!

Just set your clock to the left…

to be fair, they picked the worst possible day to spring ahead. It was immediately after New Years. almost at the winter solstice so sunrise was almost the latest possible. The Monday when everyone had to get up at the normal time again to go back to work or school after the holidays.
