It’s Edelstein, and since it involved a salary dispute, it’s a sure bet the show people know about it.
Of course, the final episode has already been shot, so it’s not exactly something they can change now. The writers kind of assumed the regular cast members would be back (though Jesse Spencer’s contract is still under negotiation).

Good. They need some fresh stuff in this show or it’s done - I’ve been a hardcore fan since Day One, and I’m not keen on it any longer.

Rumor has it that next season may be the last for “House.”
From here: “Sources confirm to TVLine that Lisa Edelstein — whose long-term contract expires this month — has opted not to return for the show’s eighth and likely final season.”
Supposedly, they were asking Edelstein to take a cut in pay and she decided to leave instead. There are apparently discussions over her appearing for a couple of episodes to wrap up her character’s departure.
The upcoming season is widely believed to be the last one because Hugh Laurie’s contract will expire with it and he apparently has indicated he’s not interested in continuing the show.
