House 5/5 (Open spoilers)

Tonight, the doctor believes that one of his soap opera stars is suffering from a very serious illness.

Then of course he will be.

House was just totally incompetent this week. Made so many misdiagnoses that could have been fatal to the patient. Cameron was the best part with all her suggestions and comments.
Of course, Wilson the wimp. CTB really made sense when she laid into him when she realized he had gotten the mattress she wanted. Hopefully he’ll get the message and stop being so doormatish (new word for the day).

Next week looks awesome. But then the previews made this episode look amazing too and look where that got us.

Yeah, Wilson has long since past the point of empathy. He lets himself be walk on; therefore he deserves to be walked on.

I didn’t understand the last ten minutes. Before I ask for a clarification, are we boxing or not boxing spoilers?

Since the episode has aired, I don’t see the point of spoilers. Regarding the last ten minutes, House thought the patient had a floral allergy, but it turned out to be an allergic reaction to quinine, which is in the tonic drinks the patient has been ingesting on set for the last two months. The patient doesn’t drink alcohol, but his soap opera character is written to be a drinker.

What I didn’t understand was, Cuddy said there was no allergy, and then moments later Foreman said there was an allergy.

The team was testing for floral allergies. Cuddy said the test was negative for floral allergies. Foreman said it was an allergy, because the steroid treatment worked. It turned out to be a plant allergy (quinine), but not from flowers or pollen.

But why did they let him go home before they’d identified the specific allergen? Weren’t they already testing him for allergies? Why would they have stopped?

Funny thing about quinine…I drink tonic water every night to keep away leg cramps. I never realized anyone could be allergic to it–but then, there do seem to be all sorts of allergies anymore.

What was the song in the montage of sorts near the end? I was paying attention to the lyrics so that I would be able to Google it afterwards; unfortunately, interruptions intervened, and now all I can remember is that it had the word “smiling” in it. I doubt I will be able to get very far with that…

Good luck with that. It took me three lines in before I realized it was in English.

The Beta Band with Needles in my eyes

As good as it looked in the preview, I thought this episode was pretty weak. It was never explained why, when he’d been ingesting the allergen for two months, it all of a sudden became so critical (when he was not ingesting it) that he’d lose feeling in his leg and have a heart attack/dementia. There are many types of allergic reactions, but even the delayed type manifests on second exposure to the allergen, not at some random time of nonexposure. Does quinine just build up in the system in some way that I’m not aware of? If that’s the case, that should have been explained to maintain some veneer of believability.

I liked the Wilson/Amber subplot, though. She’s totally right, and I gained a little respect for her in this episode, but I still thought it was bitchy of her to put the ball in Wilson’s court and later go off on him when he made the “wrong” decision. It was for the right reasons, but the effect is the same-- she gave him the illusion of free will, only to ultimately bitch him out for not making the choice she wanted him to make. I don’t believe in “testing” one’s lover.

Also, was it me, or was it just obvious to anyone else in this episode that Cuddy’s tooootally in love with House? Probably just me.

Edited due to excessive use of the word “bitch(/y)” :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah. It was just a’ight.

Really weak ep.
Only part I liked was Cameron saying she missed the job, but not House.
Oh yeah, and Chase declining to help Cuddy.
I guess there was a 3d - House telling Wilson, You want it, you can afford it, they sell it in stores, so buy it.

But the end was incredibly rushed. House was wrong any number of times, but at the end we are just supposed to accept his most recent guess that the guy was allergic to quinine? And after Cuddy moaning about potentially losing her jobm she just tosses off mention of a $200K fine?

As wrong as House was so many times this ep, I’d like to see a show on the countless number of patients he apparently kills from his incorrect guesses.

No kidding it was rushed. I was flipping between House and the Cubs game and I was looking at my watch and figured that this patient was actually going to die based on the time left for this to get resolved. Instead we get bad answers cramped into a five minute span that makes less sense than usual.

The casual acceptance of the $200k fine boggled my mind too. House is bulletproff, but not *that * bulletproof.

Hell, he cost them $100 million.
What’s a coupla hunnert K amongst friends?

Watching this show has become unbearable. I think the game has become one of, “Let’s see how incredibly stupid we can make it and still have people watch.” As of last night, I’ve officially given up on it.

Yeah, as we were watching my wife invoked that old canard about shark jumping.

My husband and I love the show, but we refer to it as the “shark-jumping” show. I mean, good God, if anyone did a fraction of what House does, he’d be in fired and/or in prison or possibly killed by a family member.
