He took it with him.
If last night was a sample of what we’ll be seeing this season, then I think the writers read your mind and are warming up those piles right now. The whole episode was very disjointed.
My thoughts exactly.
What was the point of last season’s cliffhanger, if we’re just going to come back and say “And then he got all better, and now he’s training to run a half-marathon!” The implausibility of the vegetable guy being able to stand up after years of having his muscles atrophy still make me wonder if we’re not still in dream sequence territory. Adding scurvy yoga girl to the mix, though, makes me doubt it — that’s going too far.
One of the more disappointing episodes I’ve seen, but that’s mainly because I had such high expectations of a better resolution to last season’s cliffhanger.
I did love the grape-tossing scene, though.
Exactly. I began to think it might be veering into dream territory when Cuddy gave the vegetable guy the shot of cortisol, but then I thought no, surely that won’t magically work and the guy will not instantly recover and thus House would have been proven wrong and the whole episode would make a whole lot more sense. But then vegetable guy stood up. After 8 years in a wheelchair?
The promos tell us “House is back…but not they way you think he is” so maybe he’s still in a coma? I kinda hope so because I wasn’t impressed with the new episode.
Not that I’ll stop watching because, hey, it’s House. I just hope they give him his cane back because he’s less House-y without it.
Erg, that drives me nuts. I need House to be a cripple on Vic. Grumpy, not teddy bear-y. That cane was like another limb, and now that it’s been amputated…
What good is an episode of House without him using the cane to hold open the elevator doors for dramatic/comedic pause? Although I do get a big kick out of seeing him run in some scenes, just because he can - ie: bolting from Cameron. Hilarious.
I do hope they’re going somewhere good with all of this, since I’m in it for the long haul, anyway. I’ve already bought seasons one and two…
That didn’t bother me anywhere near as much as the guy getting out of the wheelchair. Any real guy would have fallen on his face. Besides which, the person in a wheelchair who really doesn’t have to be in a wheelchair is such an old plot device, that even with all the med-speak I pretty much wanted to barf.
Don’t worry–the cane will be back (and soon), as will the Vicodin.
Especially a guy who just had tendon lengthening surgery. Standing would be mighty problematic, not to say painful.
Man, if I’d spent 8 years as a vegetable when I could have been cured (at least temporarily) by a single shot, I’d be soooo pissed…
Didn’t buy scurvy girl. I sort of believe the bizarre diet (because people are idiots), but I don’t believe that scurvy would present like that. If it was long-standing enough to deform a toe nail (which takes almost a year to grow out), then she’d have obvious signs – bad breath, bleeding gums, and so on – that no doctor could mistake, even if they’ve never seen a case before.
I don’t mind the no-cane-House. According to the people who knew him before, he was still an ass before, just an ass without the limp.
I do mind a kinder-gentler-House, but he wasn’t really. He did a slightly better job with the patient’s family. But I could just almost attribute that to thinking it was the best way to get to this particular patient (he’s done very nearly touching moments with other patients before - if that’s the only way he thinks he can play with their treatment plans). And it wasn’t that much better, just that Kathleen Quinlan’s character was incredibly gracious and could take damn near anything.
Let’s see how he acts toward clinic patients…that’s where the nasty streak really shows up.
You’ve got a point there…
Come on, Fiery House! We all know the patient’s pancreas is going to blow up because her brain is on fire, so let’s get it going, old boy!
How many times have I posted in this thread since last night? Ceeeeee-ripes, how am I going to make it until Tuesday?
 You know it never occured to me he had a first name.
Incidently, I was at the Princeton hospital just yesterday, and I didn’t see him anywhere :dubious: .
I keep trying to be a better person…I guarantee it will be a better year.
You needed to look for him in the Frist campus center. aka princeton/plainsboro medical whatever.
Yeah, but was the UPS truck out front?
Hmm…is that where the exteriors are filmed? Because it was hard to tell but it didn’t look like downtown Princeton. As opposed to Princeton/Plainbororo mediacal whatever which just doesn’t exist. I thought it was intended to be in the hospital in Princeton…I believe there was even a reference to Witherspoon Street.
Altough I’m willing to look anywhere for Hugh Laurie, he’s like, you know, totally way hot. And if i could just find him walking around Princeton…
It would be really screwed up if the Series Finale replicates the Saint Elsewhere Autism Ex Machina Ending…
Sure, now you tell me. Where is the weeping smilie?
Even though I was going to be home, I set up my tape, just in case. Then at 9:00, I plopped myself down in front of the T.V. to get my first new House fix in months, and saw…Standoff!
Anyway, I hope Indyellen’s warning saved others from my horrible, depressing fate: waiting until they re-run the season opener next February.
SpoilerVirgin - I can send it to you on DVD if you want. Your machine has to be able to read DVD +R discs.
StG
Yep, the Frist Center. I wasn’t sure what fountain he was splashing around in; I thought it would be the one outside the Woody Woo school but that one is rectangular and not a small round one like he was in.
Wow, that’s a generous offer. Now that I’ve read up on the episode online, I think I’m prepared to wait to see it (and ultimately I’ll be purchasing the season on DVD anyway). I was just annoyed that I was so prepped to watch it, and they moved the time. Even the little sticker on the 2nd season DVDs I just received yesterday said to watch the season premier at 9:00 on Sept. 5. Thanks anyway, though.
And for anyone else who missed the show, it will apparently be airing on USA Network on Friday, September 15 at 11:00 p.m.
