My TiVo didn’t record this, says the same ep was on within 28 days. I also record the reruns on FX, so did the season 2 finale have the same episode title as the season 3 premiere? Anyone else’s DVR miss this?
Was this the first episode not to open on the patient? This one opened on House doing his running. I think that this is the writers telling us to focus on House.
Yes he’s running and it’s been two months of training. So I can accept that with enough training he might be off of the limp and be able to run.
But also consider what happened to him, he got shot and survived. Why do we have such an issue with someone’s personality changing after a near death experience in which he hallucinated a very vivid story involving basically the ghost of Christmas Past. He had a wake up call and he’s trying to come to terms with it.
I think that Cuddy and his buddy are going to fuck this up by them not telling him. I’m sort of miffed that they are suddenly calling him on his diagnoses when he figured it out. In fact I got really miffed when they began accusing him of torturing the guy. This is House. He’s cruel but not physically so.
Also, we have to see that he’s now running 8 miles after spending how many years on the cane. He has a drive to get this guy who is wheelchair bound out and save him. It’s his new mission I guess.
I wasn’t upset with the episode, but there is definitely about to the shit hitting the fan because the utopic setup they’ve given us is not what we’re here to see.

It wasn’t, actually. Before the opening credits (I just went back to check my recording to be sure) they had Wheelchair Guy driving his chair into the pool. House running was shown over the guest-star credits.
Well, I’m **totally **mad for him. In fact, I don’t think in terms of watching “House;” to me, I’m just watching Hugh Laurie.
And by the way, am I the only person whose Tivo always works? The only time I don’t get what I want is when something is preempted.
Oh my bad. Weird I could have sworn it was the other way. Thanks for setting me straight!

And there’s also the enormous factor of him being able to walk again. Suddenly regaining something as fundamental as that can do wonders for post-treatment recovery, and he certainly has a great deal of willpower to overcome obstacles that are now accessible to him. He’s lost his cane, true, but he is still quite sarcastic to his staff and patients – not as much, perhaps, but it might be a bit premature to judge after a single episode.
Wheelchair guy getting up has the same factors (strengthened, I think, by the greater severity and duration of his affliction), but I still don’t think they would have been able to compensate. So chalk that one up for me as ‘more than a little ridiculous medically, but dramatically okay’.
And about the missing muscle tissue: IANAD, but I think part of it might be that before the ketamine, he couldn’t do physical therapy; the pain was just too great even during normal activity. Now that the pain is gone, maybe physical therapy is a viable option, and in eight weeks, he could have recovered a good deal of muscle mass (notice I say ‘could’. It seems reasonable to me, but I don’t know).
I especially liked the part when he’s talking to Wilson about the pain in his leg. I don’t remember the exact words, but it was something like this:
House: (paraphrased) My leg is hurting again. I think the treatment didn’t work.
Wilson: (also paraphrased) You’ve been exerting yourself like crazy, and you don’t know the aches of middle age.
House: I’ve been dealing with them for years –
Wilson: No, you haven’t. You’ve been popping Vicodin constantly for the past three years. You have no idea what middle age feels like. The ketamine treatment worked.
