So Stacy’s going to stay on as General Counsel for the hospital? Interesting.
I loved the line House had when trying to give Stacy’s husband the cocktail: “You take the big, dark one. I’ll take the little girl. The Aussie’ll run when things start to go badly.” Or something to that extent.
Good episode, and very interesting especially when she admitted that House was basically the love of her life, but she felt wanted by the husband, and very lonely when with House, probably because of his dedication to work and its long hours. and I thought the last scene was really interesting… anybody else think that House might try to ditch the cane and get off painkillers in an attempt to either win her back, or get into a real relationship with someone else?
“You take the big, dark one. I’ll take the little girl. The Aussie’ll run like a scared wombat when things start to go badly.”
I have no idea about that scene. I want to know what other people think. If he was trying to get off painkillers why would he have taken the pill? And wasn’t that the confiscated amphetamine, not Vicodin? Or is Vicodin an amphetamine? Now I feel stupid.
Cameron: “I used to think that you couldn’t love. Now, I see that’s not true. You just couldn’t love me. That’s good. I’m happy for you.”
I found it interesting that Stacy basically said that House’s personality was the same before the surgery. This confirmed my suspicion that the sarcasm, obsessiveness, and self-destructive tendencies that he displays did not originate with the leg problem. Greg House’s worst pain comes from his mind, not his leg.
Nope, Vicodin’s an opiate. Depressant as opposed to a stimulant. But it wouldn’t be a shocker if his addiction spanned multiple substances. Of course, I still laughed when he pocketed the amphetamines. House makes addiction funny!
(Did anyone notice the booze-and-Vicodin combination at the end? Wow, risk of respiratory arrest from multiple depressants, plus organ damage from combining the acetaminophen in the Vicodin with alcohol. Not smart, Dr. House, not smart.)
Well apparently there was a blockage in his leg which caused a lot of dead muscle tissue (from lack of blood). To save them they removed a large portion of the dead muscle tissue as well as the blockage (instead of amputating the leg). So there is a loss of full muscle in the leg and perhaps still some dead tissue.
I thought it was the amphetamine. I thought House took it because he figured that he’d been through enough recently, and deserved to have a little illicit fun.
One more important thing to note that nicely mirrors this episode – House didn’t want to have the tissue removed and made his wishes explicit. When put under, Stacy overrode that decision and had them (Dr. Cuddy, that is) do it anyway.
Great Episode. I had to stay up late last night and watch it on TiVo. I was teaching Tuesday night and my daughter left me a message telling me I HAD to watch so we could talk about it tonight.
Best line: “Women. Can live with them. Can’t kill them and tell the neighbors they’re stripping in Atlantic City.”
I really felt for House in the final scenes. And although the Stones’ You Can’t Always Get What You Want is a bit of a cliche as soundtrack, I think it worked well. Particularly:
I went down to the Chelsea drugstore
To get your prescription filled
I was standin’ in line with Mr. Jimmy
A-man, did he look pretty ill
Two great finales in House and Deadwood – now just a vast wasteland until the new seasons start…
Yeah, but I’ve been taking a diuretic and was on the “every commercial break” schedule so it was nothing unexpected.
I had forgotten that with porphyria the the urine has to get some air before it turns colors other than plain ol’ yellow. And while my kidneys were going flat out last night and could probably have done it, and while there are many odd time expansions and contractions in that show, wouldn’t you normally get the extra-special pee minutes or an hour AFTER the episode, rather than in the middle of it?
And I loved Cuddy’s “Say no! Say no!” look when she asked House if it was okay with him if Stacy worked there. Girl’s still got it bad for him. Or it might’ve just been a look of concern for the well-being of a (now) platonic friend but I’m as egotistical as the next guy and would never consider that option. Nah, it’s as plain as day that she’s still hot for him.
Huh. I didn’t read Cuddy that way at all. I saw the look on her face as, “After the Volger incident, we obviously need some seriously talented legal ability here, so please please please don’t screw this up for me…”
My BS-meter lit up at that point too, but I could be wrong. I’m going to check through my clinical biochemistry books today and see what I can come up with (we haven’t covered that section yet).
