I’m moving into a new place this coming Saturday and I have to clean up the new place a bit as it has been vacant for a few months. I hate cleaning but I was ecstatic when I noticed a broken window in the kids bedroom!
I worked as a glazier back when I was 21-22 and it was a fun job. I loved cutting the glass, setting it and warming up the putty in my hands, then rolling it out into long strings like the snakes you used to make in grade school art class. I hired movers to move all my crap,I may accept my girfriends help to clean up but there is no way anyone other than me is glazing that window.
BTW, I am horribly sick right now with tonsilitis and strep, am all medicated up yet I seriously entertained the idea that I could run over to the new place and finish prepping the window so I could go get the glass at the supply house in the morning!
What chore/househod repair things around the house do you love to do?
I really enjoy cooking meals but only when I’ve got the time to put some effort into it and am not rushed.
Also really enjoy grocery shopping right from planning the meals to writting the shopping list through to unpacking it an putting it away. Its a good thing for me that leechboy loves grocery shopping to as its a cheap way for us to go out and have fun together
I have to agree with leechbabe. I love the whole food thing. Shopping, cooking and even growing my own veggies. And I also enjoy curing my own meat and stuffing my own sausage. Oh and making my own pasta. I am thinking about a career change to catering.
Back when I lived on the east coast, I used to LOVE scraping the ice off the windshield of the car. Something very very satisfying about it for me. Nowadays, I have to settle for the squeegee, which is a poor alternative.
Whilst I love to cook, not too keen on the shopping bit.
Love shoveling snow - especially when the dog is enjoying the snow too.
Making the bed, especially with fresh sheets from the dryer/tumble
Hoovering (vacuuming)
Folding laundry fresh from the dryer/tumble
Hanging laundry on the line in the summer
Mowing the lawn
I’m gonna echo the Grocery Shopping answer. My favorite is the cereal aisle. It always takes me ages to decide, but it’s like a grown-up version of the candy store. The deliberating makes it fun!
Also–spring planting. I’ve got beds around my porch and beneath my front window and every year I’m so excited to go to the nursery and pick out a whole slew of flats–something different every year. And then I go home, and get to dig in the dirt for hours! And when I’m done it’s like instant gratification. Where once there was only bleak, empty, scrabbly little dirt beds, there’s now dark fresh earth elegantly dotted with bright beautiful flowers. It’s SO satisfying.
My mom keeps trying to get me to plant perennials, but where’s the fun in that ?
I quite enjoy cleaning the bathroom ( actual bathroom for you Americans, not the toilet ), especially when there is a build up of grime. It must be some sort of achievement thing!
Vacuuming and doing laundry… they’re both incredibly satisfying. Even more worrying is that I now quite like ironing, something I always refused to do until recently. Even better if you’re pressing starched sheets :).
Loading the dishwasher always gives me a bit of a thrill, too - because I know I don’t have to stand at the sink and wash the pots myself! I’ve had that machine for three years now, and still the novelty hasn’t worn off yet.
Ooh, I forgot about the dishwasher! my new apartment has a really nice Maytag so in anticipation, I have not washed a single damn dish spoon, cup or anything. (except of course my precious precious kitchen knives)
I loaded up a moving box with nasty week old dishes, ran over to the new place this morning, popped them in, hit Heavy Wash and voila! sparkly clean! Oh man I dont think the novelty will EVER wear off
Can you tell I am back to having a dw after 4 years without one?
I like preparing meals, whether it’s something as simple as heating a can of soup and making sandwiches or coordinating the preparation of a full meal. I usually try to keep a supply of staples and what I call “no-brainer” meals on hand, so that if I forget to take something out of the freezer or suddenly don’t feel like fixing anything fancy I have something to fall back on.
Shopping for me consists of checking the ads for what’s on sale and stocking up on supplies based on that.
I like cooking and I love grocery shopping and that’s where you’ll sometimes find me on Friday nights at Costco buying food… and using those new Maytag Kenmore laundry machines that are front load, they rock, so doing laundry with new machines are very much an enjoyable satisfying experience.
I like to split firewood. No, really. No… getyourhandoffmyforeheadIam NOT SICK !!
It’s very satisfying to all my senses… smell of the fresh cut wood, sight of the pieces splitting cleanly from the ax head, etc. Plus the reward is sitting in front of the fire. mmmmmmmm…
I also like to cook. This is because I like to eat. I also enjoy redecorating (painting !).
big alex, you must hold the secret to bathroom cleaning. Please tell me what it is. I hate cleaning the bathroom so much that I hardly ever do it, which just makes it worse, ya know? I think I hate it so much because I’m so bad it. No cleaning supplies seem to really do the trick.
