I love breaking out the Ajax and scrubbing all five of our bathroom sinks. Really, that’s the only household chore that I would do without being asked.
Sometimes though, I get this urge to become some sort a domestic goddess. Usually it hits somewhere around 5 AM, when I haven’t slept in more than 24 hours, and morphs me into some sort of obsessive-compulsive June Cleaver from hell. I want to run around with a feather duster in one hand, a plate of chocolate chip cookies fresh from the oven in the other, and vacuum, scrub and straighten until somebody forces me to stop and go to sleep.
The same thing happens from time to time at parties, especially when it’s been a long night. I actually polished the silver at one person’s house while I sat awake worrying about why it was taking him over two hours to drop off three people, and wondering what the hell my best friend was doing in a locked bedroom with a guy she normally couldn’t stand… When his parents came home the next day, they couldn’t believe their two sons had cleaned the house from top to bottom, and neglected no detail, no matter how small.
