Happy Feet, I’m afraid the inertia is to such a point for this one that it will go on at The Ale House. I have seen minors there; I believe you’d need to be in the company of your legal guardian to attend, which would be fine with us. In fact, if you are a minor you’re more than welcome, but we would probably be happier if we knew that your parent(s) or guardian(s) would either be with you or would be well apprised of your intended company for the evening.
If that doesn’t suit you, just wait - there’ll be more, and we have accomodated less-than-legal-drinking-age Dopers before; we just need to know early enough in the planning stages.
These things happen often enough. Just tonight we had a last minute gathering wherein Shanin, her charming daughter, Sealemon, robgruver and I fêted Sqrlcub on the occasion of his visit to Houston.

I am performing this Wednesday night (tomorrow) with Terence at Cafe Brazil (Richmond and Dunlavy I believe) at around 9:30 PM. I will be playing sitar, he will be playing tabla. It will be my first time playing solo (without my teacher). Perhaps my friend Bob will join us on the bansuri (Indian flute). I’ll be the pale white guy with the large multi stringed instrument.
Come by. Enjoy some Indian classical music. Have a cup o’ joe or a beer.

Hey, I just saw this thread. Shame on me. The 14th of April is most likely out, since it’s the day before Easter. The 24th of Mar looks much more promising for me, but out for Mr Bear, since he’ll be working. Let me know what happens, and I’ll do my best to come. Perhaps I can crash at maidenunicorn’s place for the night, depending on where the dopefest ends up being held.

It is actually Westheimer and Dunlavy (as I realized while driving there). Brazil is one of those places that I know how to get to, but not where it is. I just drive up Dunlavy until I see it…
Anyway, it was fun, but they have this big tango crowd there tonight. Terence wasn’t around (it is billed as Terence’s world music night), and so the tango dominated. They gave us 15 minutes or so from 9:45 to 10:00 PM, and I played with David Courtney on tabla (he is probably the best tabla player in Houston) and my wife on tanpura. The mics were a little weird and I couldn’t really hear myself, so my playing was a little off…
Anyway, I may be doing it again next week. I’ll let you know.

If you want to enjoy some mediocre raga to start out a good world music set, getcho ass down to Cafe Brazil, corner of Westheimer and Dunlavy (sorry beatle!) on Wednesday night at around 9:30-10:00 PM. It will be sitar and tabla again. I only play for like 15 minutes, so you may miss me if you sneeze or blink.
As previously stated, I’ll be the Ashkenazi Jew with the 20 stringed Indian instrument.
There is a 50/50 chance that I will be there again on Friday, this time playing some jazz (not on sitar, but on piano) – mostly mild stuff after a pop set by my friend Eric and Vivek. We are playing Eric’s brother’s wedding and he wants to use the second half of his set for a practice for the Saturday wedding. As I say, I may not make this due to some familial obligations, but still my friend Eric is pretty good and worth seeing.
Anyway, hope to see somebody there.

OK, there’s this thread Houston Dopers… Again??? that does seem to indicate an April 14th gathering of the HouDopes at The Ale House. That’s all well and good and I’m done with that. Looks like it’s shaping up allright.
What I’m wondering about is whether or not we’re creating a group of castaways with this indeterminate talk of March 24th. Who are y’all who plan to meet then. Where? When?

Dammit, I’d love to come to one of these things- I’m just starting to get into the SDMB. Saturday nights, at least for a while, are right out though.
I think the big, firm one is April 14th at The Ale House.
But for the benefit of any strays, I will be at The Ale House on March 24th @ 7:00 PM with the official HouDope SDMB sign. I will consume two beers during my vigilant wait for stray Dopers (so, in the absence of hearing anything from any of y’all, I’ll stay until ~8:00 PM). Then I’ll be gone.
That’s the alternate HouDope. We’re still roundin’ them up for the 14th (C’mon Revedge, you can pad the post count a bit just helpin’ this move along…)
