How about I shove your American money up your ass???

For those who have been paying attention, I work food service at a place that is a hybrid of fast food and a restaurant in a small airport. It’s like a cafeteria except we have a kitchen. If you haven’t been paying attention, well, there you go.

And I’ve also ranted before how since summer started, we get a lot of American customers. A lot of them are nice and pleasant, but once in a while, I get dumb jerkfaces who ask me if the price is in American. I usually just tell them it’s in Canadian. Some ask me to conver their money for them, and that’s when I have to do some dreaded mental math. Still, most of them just hand over an American ten that would cover their meal.

Today, I had a bitch ask for American change. Now, I’ve had this happen before, and there’s a big sign that says “All change is given in Canadian currency”, but obviously, this illiteral fool didn’t read the sign, and when I stated what the sign said, she started berating me about why not. I had American currency in the till, and I could give her change. I was stupid for working in a fast food place and couldn’t do simple math to give her back her change in American. I was a bitch for not succumbing store policy. I stood there and took it for about half a minute before someone in line behind her said “Hey lady, you’re in Canada.” For that, I would like to thank him.

But no, the pussbag would not shut up. Thinking because she’s American and owns the world, she hopes that when I go to the States, the same situation happens and I am stuck like she is. (Note: I’ve been to Seattle countless times and I have never had to encounter the same situation because I know to fucking EXCHANGE my money when going into a country with foreign currency) And then she made a comment about how if she went to China, she would be able to get American change back. I would hope that she didn’t mention that because I am Asian, but who knows? She could have been an ignorant cuntface to make a racist comment against me.

I get many customers who are impatient jackasses and I have to deal with a lot of shit, so this obviously wasn’t a big deal. I was not about to lose my cool over a jerkwad like her. I had already given back her change and I owed her no money so as soon as she saw that she was not going to berate me into giving in, I hoped she would leave.

And this is the part where it gets me really angry. My manager came out from the back to see what the fuss was about. And the bitch was all “She won’t give me back American change.” And what does the fucking idiot do? He overrides store policy and fucking gives her the change in American. As if that isn’t bad enough, he just said to me “Just let them have their way. Next time, just give them what they want or they’ll make a fuss.” Garg. This is one manager speaking. If I did what he did in front of another manager, I would be chewed out by him/her.

Like I said, I work in an airport, the turnover rate of customers is extremely high. I would probably not have seen that bitch again, and my co-workers wouldn’t have either. So, to please a customer that wouldn’t return, he pissed me off to the point that I was so seething with anger I couldn’t do my work properly. I am overwise a very efficient minimum wage drone.

So, way to manage, dillhole!

sigh

Canadians are not a model of perfection either. While I do love Canada and have enjoyed the company of many Canadians, many immediately treated me as if I was an illiterate idiot when they found out my nationality.

They actually had to see that I was ‘worthy’ of being treated well and they were condescending, patronizing, and fucking rude about it. I was an object of derision and amusement until they realized I wasn’t going to play their game and the guy I was with pointed out that they were doing exactly what they criticize Americans for.

Yes, Virginia, there are dickheads on both sides of the border. Yes, Canadians do tend to be better informed on world matters as well as American politics than Americans are. Yes, they also tend to be smarter and sexier, with more flexible bodies, and a marked decrease in premature ejaculation than their American counterparts.

Still

If you’re in a venue that deals with international customers there are some who will be apocalyptic scum that will make one fantasize about ethnic cleansing based on the Springer index(the level to which they either equal or surpass the skank index of the average Jerry Springer guest).

It isn’t the nationality, it’s the individual and their personal bullshit.

What the crap, man!! I cannot believe the way some people operate! Can she not understand that she is in a completely different country!!??? When she made the comment about China, did you ask if you could get Canadian change in an American airport? You should have thrown that one in her face.

I didn’t sense anything particular degrading towards Americans in the OP. It seemed like it was a problem with a particular customer who wanted “American” change. Nothing mean was said about Americans.

I hate people that think they’re too good for the rules and don’t give a crap about breaking them. On a sort of related topic, I was doing my community service at the library and was putting back all these DVDs. Then a bunch of people who didn’t seem to care that there were some already on the shelves and that I was busy came over and started to pick through them. I wanted to kick them, but there were too many of them and it wouldn’t look good in front of my supervisor if I did. You’ve just gotta take these things, as much as it sucks, and accept that some people have no manners.

BTW, there was one guy who asked me nicely, so I let him  .

Um… how about:

I’ll let her words stand for themselves.

Aren’t those words about what one individual appeared to think?

Come on now…she was in the midst of the moment…

Living semi-close to Montreal I always, without fail, change my cash into Canadian currency. Isn’t it the respectful thing to do? Oh then again, I live amongst so many disrespectful American’s I really shouldn’t bother.

Some of us live up to the disdainful reputation some American’s have built…others of us do not. With hope…many of us do not.

Maybe she doesn’t speak Canadian.

I do tend to agree with Mockingbird about the somewhat anti-American tone to the post.

However, I must admit in my plethora of jobs (some of which are retail) I have certainly had American customers that have become outraged that I was unable to complete the entire transaction in American funds.

I’ve never had a European, African or Asian person do similar, and I’ve never attempted to use my Canadian funds in this manner when I’ve been travelling in the US.

Granted, it does seem that the US green back is more wildly accepted than most currencies (In Mexico the shops actually prefered to be paid in US funds); however, it seems like some folks from south of the boarder are a bit uhh, high strung about the whole thing.

I can not fucking believe that this woman expected American currency in CANADA. Does she not realize that it’s a whole 'nother country?

For Pete’s sake, I can’t even exchange Canadian funds in most of the banks in this country.

Heck, I’ve been to China, so I could personally assure the cunt that no, she cannot get change back in American. Hell, the first time I went, you couldn’t even get change back in Chinese (because foreigners had to use special currency called FEC that was regulated by the government).

I am so tired of being embarrassed by my national affiliation with morons.

Well…sorta…

I say give her change minus a fee for your trouble, just like other businesses will. Say 50% - I think you’ld be sadly surprised how mathematically illiterate so many people are that they’ll not think twice about paying it.

Or tell her to get fucked, since taking it up the ass with money changing and fees is one of the realities of international travel, and she should have known that. That’s why I still have something like £1000 unspent in a safe, and goddess knows how many Euros…plus tons of Venezuelan money that I could almost actually see depreciate before my eyes…

Err…make that £100, not £1000. If I had £1000 at today’s exchange rates I could finally buy that beautiful android body I’ve needed for so long.

Yeah, you’d be all “Here’s your American change” and the other manager would be all “Whoa, hey, what you doing” and you’d be all “The first manager said it was okay” and the other manager’d be all “Hey, that’s not cool, we have a store policy” and you’d be all “Bite me” and he’d be all “You’re fired.”

I know it sucks to be doing your job according to laid-out policies and then get over-ruled, but I presume the manager has more discretionary power than you, including accomodating a loudmouth customer and getting them the heck outta there.

Like, chill.

That’s weird. My bank accepts any denomination. Not for exchange, just deposit, but then I just withdraw money from my account and everything is fine.

I can’t imagine any bank turning down money.

Wait a minute! You imported one of those already! Or who have I been discussing SF with? :stuck_out_tongue:

Some reasons why Americans have bad image abroad (let’s forget about politics).

  1. There are some 20 zillion Americans, as opposed to, say like 10,000 Canadians and 10 Danes.

  2. If 1% of the population is brain-dead, then there are, er… A LOT of Americans that are a little above clams in intelligence.

  3. Americans have money for traveling, as opposed to, say, Ghanans. So there is 75% more chances to meet a stupid American than a few other idiots from different countries.

  4. The US is a very powerful country, so in the minds of these idiots it makes sense that the world should function in whatever manner necessary to accommodate them, thus making themselves quite visible.

  5. The other 99% of the population, who probably is a bunch of nice people go unnoticed, or probably pass for Canadians

As you may have noticed math or statistics were not my favourite subject in school. And yes, that woman was an idiot.

Sorry 'bout the bitch. I assure you, not all Americans are like her.

Most of us are worse.
