4.99. Just posted yesterday it was up to $4.89, and day later and it went up again.
$5.79 in Aptos, CA
How the turn tables. Remember the May 2020 futures trading at minus $37? Free dollar with every gallon!
Well, the good thing is it should stop going up now, at least going by all the articles this week saying they thought it “might” go up to $5 by the end of the summer.
The end of the summer.
Idiots.
That’s what they’ re saying here. I want to scream at the TV anchor it’s
practically $5 now!
$1.96.9 CAD/L when I filled up about 2 weeks ago at my local PetroCan. It was up to $2.04.5 when I filled up 3 days ago, but naturally has dropped to $1.91.9 yesterday.
The remarkable thing about this is that you encountered a price that did not end in nine tenths of a cent. I don’t think I have ever seen one.
$5.04/gal (strange price) in Camas, WA at one station and $4.99 at another (not including the 10 cent debit surcharge). I think this is the most I’ve ever paid for gas.
The other thing they keep saying is although we’re paying more than we ever have right now, if you adjust for inflation, the highest is “really” $5.53/gallon. What will they change to when we blow past that before the 4th of July?
Which reminds me… Aren’t we due for a refinery fire/explosion? They happen like clockwork, just before the Summer holidays.
Had to drive up to the northern suburbs of Chicago for a funeral today.
In Lake County, prices were at $4.99. In Cook County, where I live (and where taxes are higher), they’re between $5.09 and $5.19.
Well over $5 a gallon on Oahu for some time now and over $6 on the outer islands. People here tend not to drive the long distances people do on the mainland though.
We’re on a 10 week RV-ing trip, and diesel has ranged from $5.19 in TX to $5.94 near the Outer Banks. Paid $5.42 this morning (N of Greenville).
One big hassle has been the max dollar amounts at various stations. Since we’re pumping 30 - 50 gallons each time, we always hit the max and end up playing musical credit cards to convince the pump to let us top off. Calls to CC companies to lift limits aren’t working, as it seems to be individual retailers setting limits.
Are you saying you think they are restricting the quantity of diesel per customer due to supply concerns? Or that they are restricting the dollar amount of credit sales because they are concerned with credit card fraud?
I think it’s setting dollar amounts, since it varies even between stations carrying the same brand (i e. Exxon).
I don’t think it’s supply concerns, as I was able to fill up with no problems at big truck stops. I just hate using those due to the level of filth on and around the pumps. My shoes reek of diesel afterwards.
Isn’t that normal? There are stickers on pumps around here saying there’s a $75 per transaction limit and google suggests this isn’t a quirk of geography.
Yes, I may not have been clear but I was asking if it was the normal $ restriction, or something unusual related to supply concerns. It usually seems to be $100 for me.
I’ve seen that sort of limit at some stations for years, though I usually use a debit card; after I use my card, the pump will give a message such as “Debit Balance $100.”
When gas was $3 or $3.50 a gallon, that limit was likely more than enough for most people filling up a vehicle. But, at $5+, and a big tank in a truck or RV, it feels like stations with those limits may need to start re-thinking the cap.
