One bizarre side story. Joran had a U.S. gf before the Natalee case. He moved here and lived with her family for almost a year. I’ve seen her interviewed several times. She swears he was a nice guy that never hurt her. I can’t recall her name. I recall her saying having him constantly around in the house eventually changed their relationship to more brother/sister.
He returned to Aruba after their relationship end. The Natalee case was a short time later.
That family he lived with was so lucky nothing bad happened. Flores Ramírez’s murder shows how violent Joran can be.

I don’t recall ever hearing that. Seeing as he’s only recently turned 24 now, and the Natalee Holloway thing happened when he was 17, he must have been awfully young to move to the States and have a live-in girlfriend for nearly a year.
Also, his Wikipedia page says that he was a student at the International School in Aruba before the Holloway disappearance.
I haven’t been able to find a news article about the American gf. I distinctly recall seeing her multiple times on Nancy Grace and Greta’s show defending Joran when Natalee first went missing. I got the impression he was here in the U.S. maybe a year before the disappearance living with the girls parents and going to school. I’d guess her opinion has changed drastically in the past years.
After all these years I can’t find anything. I guess my google fu is weak.
As an aside, I wouldn’t be crazy shocked if Natalee actually did indeed die of an accidental OD, just as Joran claimed on the hidden video footage, and in a fit of panic he threw her body into the sea, figuring that no one would believe that he wasn’t responsible in some way.
If that’s really the way it went down, I also would bet my life that he was the one who gave her the drugs, probably as a way to be sure that she was either a willing participant in the sexual acrobatics he was counting on, or that she was properly passed out so he could get at her with no resistance if she didn’t end up consenting.
I don’t think that anyone (including her friends and family) claimed that he forced her to leave the bar (or was it a casino?) with him; By all accounts she went off with Mr. Van Der Sloot willingly…
I did find ex gf Melody Granadillo. Maybe that was who I was thinking of from back in 2005.

I wouldn’t bet *my *life that a teenaged girl in a bar on spring break was slipped a mickey.
And, I wouldn’t bet *my *life that a teenaged girl on spring break in Aruba would need to be forced into sexual acrobatics. Or even sexual antics! I have that there are some reliable statements that women actually go into some bars and get drunk/high/whatever, and actually have voluntary sex. Some, per reports, actually take drugs willingly.
And, I don’t think that a young babe in a bar in Aruba on spring break would really be so averse to sex that she would need some fiend to lurk, and wait until her soft drink was near so he could slip her a drug that would turn her into his sex slave, as the only way to have sex.
Perhaps the boy is innocent of murder and rape. (At least Natalee’s.)
